Wise drops Johnson hintLeeds boss Dennis Wise has hinted that he may make Jemal Johnson’s Elland Road switch permanent.
The Wolves outcast has only made two short substitute appearances for the Championship’s basement boys – but Wise reckons Johnson could be an investment for the future.
The former Blackburn striker is at Elland Road until the end of the month and is yet to make an impact on the pitch for the relegation haunted Yorkshire side.
But under-fire Wise, whose side look destined for the Championship drop, also suggested the American forward has answered questions about his temperament and attitude during his brief spell at Leeds.
“I’m not looking short-term – I’m looking at further down the line for Jemal,†the Leeds manager said.
“I needed to bring him in because certain things were put to me about the young man. I wanted to see him work, and he’s showed me everything I wanted. Maybe I’ll extend the loan – we’ll have to wait and see.â€
With Andy Keogh and Stephen Ward striking up such a fine partnership, Johnson’s first-team opportunities at Molineux look extremely limited. Jay Bothroyd is the current striking understudy.
And, with Mick McCarthy already looking at other striker options it appears that Johnson’s departure is almost inevitable. He cost Wolves around £125,000 when he signed from Blackburn in September.
Wolves’ understudies were geting another chance to impress in a reserve team friendly against Crewe today.
