O'Donovan On Season Loan?
Leeds could make a move for Sunderland forward Roy O'Donovan.
Irish winger O'Donovan rose to prominence with Cork City after a few unproductive spells in England with Wolves, Coventry and Cheltenham Town.
The Republic of Ireland 'B' international signed for the Black Cats a year ago from Cork and could join Leeds on a season-long loan.
O'Donovan signed for Sunderland for an eircom League record transfer fee of â,¬500,000 in August last year.
The fee could increase to â,¬1m depending on appearances for club and country. O'Donovan is understood to have signed a 3-year-deal, worth â,¬8,000 per week.
He made his Premiership debut for Sunderland against Birmingham City on August 15, 2007 when he came on as a substitute in the 69th minute. He made his first start of the season in the 3-1 defeat to West Ham United.

Agent cool on Windass Leeds United link
Dean Windass' representative today played down talk of the Hull City striker making a move to Leeds United this summer.
Windass was linked with a transfer to Elland Road yesterday, with Leeds rumoured to be preparing a £100,000 bid for the ex-Bradford City forward, but his agent John Hendrie insisted reports of United's interest was "news to me".
The 39-year-old is on course to return to the Premier League next month after his sensational goal in last season's Championship play-off final completed Hull's promotion to the top-flight for the first time in over a century.
Windass is under contract for another 12 months having agreed a two-year deal on his arrival at the KC Stadium from Valley Parade in the summer of 2007, and City have not hinted at any plans to part company with the veteran forward this summer.
Hendrie also indicated that Windass intends to take up the opportunity of another season in the Premier League, and suggested claims linking the striker with Leeds were wide of the mark.
Hendrie said: "I've seen the story, and I was surprised by it. It's news to me. Dean's still got another year left on his contract at Hull, and he'd like another crack at the Premier League next season."
Windass had already reached his 38th birthday when Hull paid Bradford an initial fee of £150,000 for his services a year ago, but his 15-goal contribution last season played a major part in securing Hull's promotion.
His campaign peaked with the first-half volley which earned Phil Brown's side a 1-0 victory over Bristol City at Wembley on May 24, and despite Hull investing heavily in their squad so far this summer, the club are expected to retain him for the start of the 2008-09 term.

Leeds boss Gary McAllister has made no secret of his desire to recruit two new strikers on top of the resources already available to him at Elland Road, but a firm move for Windass seems unlikely.
United have lodged a bid with Wolverhampton Wanderers for Jay Bothroyd and are waiting to discover whether the out-of-favour striker will take up the opportunity, and McAllister is continuing to assess Canadian trialist Marcus Haber.
The FC Groningen forward, who is available on a free transfer, scored in Sunday's friendly between Leeds and Bray Wanderers, and he is expected to receive a final run-out against Shelbourne tomorrow before McAllister's squad return to England at the end of their Irish tour.

Elding Interest Still There

Gray warns of Leeds United 'player overload'
The swathe of senior professionals likely to play in Leeds United's first public reserve friendly this evening is a demonstration of why summer transfer dealings are required to be a two-way street.
A cast of more than 20 players set off with Gary McAllister to the Republic of Ireland last week, but the range of options available to United's manager was more clearly displayed by the crowd of experienced individuals who were left behind.
The exclusion of Tresor Kandol and Anthony Elding from the touring party was brought on by illnesses contracted by both players, but Elding is part of a crowd whose time with Leeds is poised to end this summer.
Ian Westlake, Sebastian Sorsa, Curtis Weston and Sebastien Carole appear to be surplus to McAllister's requirements â€" Carole was allowed to embark on a brief trial with Le Havre last month â€" and all four players will take to the field for a second-string clash against Farsley Celtic tonight while United's first-team prepare for the last game of their Irish tour at Shelbourne tomorrow.
All eyes have been on McAllister's incoming deals this summer, with three completed to date, and he is keen to acquire at least one more striker before the season kicks off with Leeds' visit to Scunthorpe United on August 9.
But former United boss Eddie Gray does not expect McAllister to feel even slight concern about the make-up of his pool, and says his Scottish compatriot will be as anxious to avoid over-loading his squad as he will be to line up new arrivals.
Gray said: "The bonus for Gary at the start of this summer was that his squad was in good shape even without any signings.
"My feeling would be that the squad at Leeds is already strong enough to finish above most teams in League One next season, and it sounds like he'll bring in a couple of new players before the league game at Scunthorpe.
"He obviously wants a couple of strikers to go on top of what he's got already but even if he wasn't to get them I'd still feel very confident. Funnily enough, at the moment he'll probably be just as wary of having too many players at the club.
"If you look through the squad, there's cover in almost every position and there are all sorts of midfielders to choose from. Certain guys look like they'll be on their way and it's important to get the balance right. As a manager you need enough options but you don't want players hanging around with nothing to do and no chance of playing.
"A settled summer is probably the best thing that Leeds could have asked for, and there's no point in spending money for the sake of it.
If we’d gone into the Championship last season then the club would have had no choice but to invest heavily, but this squad has the talent to go up automatically.â€
Neil Kilkenny is another player who will return to the fold at Elland Road once the Australian international’s involvement at the Olympic Games concludes next month, and the addition of Andy Robinson on a free transfer from Swansea City has heightened the competition for midfield places at Elland Road. Seven recognised midfielders made the trip to Eire, minus Kilkenny, and McAllister has given the majority of his players an hour-long run-out during their two matches against Galway United and Bray Wanderers.
His squad play Shelbourne tomorrow and will then travel direct from Dublin to London to prepare for Saturday’s friendly against Barnet at Underhill, but Gray believes the first glimpse of McAllister’s thoughts for next season will come during the friendly planned at Darlington a week tonight.
“The team we see at Darlington will probably be pretty close to the team that Gary’s thinking of for the first game of the season,†said Gray, who was in Galway for last Wednesday’s friendly and will attend tomorrow night’s clash with Shelbourne.
“We’ll be a week and a half away from the Scunthorpe match and that’s when the final preparation starts. It’ll be very interesting to see what he’s planning because a lot of players are chasing the same positions.
“Leeds didn’t lack much last season but they were short of width at times, and I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s something Gary looks to address before the season starts.
“Robinson’s a good signing and he’ll make a difference on the left-hand side, but a natural right winger would give the squad something a bit different.
“But as things stand, Leeds have probably got the biggest wage bill in League One, and they can’t afford to let that rise to a stupid level.
“I think Gary’s aware of the limits you have to set in this division and, knowing him, I’m sure he’s been very realistic about the players he’s looked at and the players he’s tried to sign. This has been the first summer for a good few years when Leeds haven’t needed a complete change, and that’s a positive thing.â€

Leeds United to make decision on Haber
(http://editorial.jpress.co.uk/web/Upload/LEED//TH1_237200834MB1_0683.jpg)
Leeds United are set to rule on the future of trialist striker Marcus Haber after tonight's pre-season friendly against Shelbourne.
The Canadian under-23 international is expected to be given a final run-out as United's pre-season tour of southern Ireland reaches a conclusion at Tolka Park tonight.
Haber has played in both of United's previous matches in Eire and scored in their 3-2 victory over Bray Wanderers on Sunday, and McAllister confirmed that a decision will be made on whether to extend the forward's trial or offer him a contract before Saturday's friendly against Barnet.
McAllister said: "He's done fine so far and he got himself a goal against Bray.
"We've got one game to go in Ireland and we'll make a decision on him after that."
Haber linked up with McAllister's squad last week in time to fly to Galway for the first game of Leeds' summer tour, and he was given a half-hour run-out against Galway United at Terryland Park.
The young striker was then named in the starting line-up ahead of Sunday's clash with Bray Wanderers at Carlisle Grounds, and he converted a second half opportunity to help Leeds claim a 3-2 win.
Haber is available to sign on a free transfer from Dutch Eredivisie club FC Groningen, who he joined from Vancouver in 2006.
His form for Groningen's under-19 side earned him a place in Canada's squad for the FIFA Under-20 World Cup last summer, and he has represented his country three times at under-23 level.
McAllister said: "He's F***ed in well over here and the other players have made him feel very welcome. That's been important.
"It's never easy for trialists coming into a club like this and it's a big ask for a player of his age to join up on a tour abroad and make an impact. But he's worked hard all week."
Haber had expected to rise from Groningen's under-19 squad and join their reserves this summer, but the Dutch club allowed him to reach the end of his contract and take up the offer of a trial with Leeds.
McAllister may decide to take Haber to Underhill on Saturday if the forward impresses at Tolka Park, and the striker is likely to be enthusiastic about an extended chance to win himself a deal at Elland Road.
Speaking ahead of his trial last week, Haber said: "Leeds were interested so I'm happy to be here at a club with so much history.
"I think everyone knows about the history of Leeds. They were in the Champions League not so long ago, and the Premiership. I know the club had financial problems but I would love to be a part in helping them get back up there."

Leeds will start a second season in League One next season and McAllister revealed many contacts had been lost while the club has been on the slide.
McAllister said: "During troubled times we've lost a lot of connections from abroad and even here in Ireland, but we're building some bridges again.
"We have some European based scouts and some developments in Ireland as well."

Becchio impresses United boss(http://www.elperiodicoextremadura.com/img/noticias/354728_2.jpg)
Leeds United manager Gary McAllister says he is looking forward to taking another look at Argentinian trialist Luciano Becchio
The former Barcelona and Mallorca striker will feature in the weekend friendly against Barnet after impressing the Leeds boss in a 1-1 draw against Shelbourne in Ireland.
McAllister said: "He arrived a few days ago and he'd been training on his own. He can be pleased. He did well.
"I thought he showed enough, and we'll look forward to seeing him again at Barnet."
Leeds ended their mini tour with two wins and a draw, thanks to Paul Huntington's equaliser against Shelbourne, and are unbeaten in four pre-season matches.
McAllister added: "It was a good test. It was very competitive and I was pleased none of the players reacted. I feel the three games here in Ireland have been a good work-out for us."
TeamTalk
Ankers
Frazer, Rui, Huntington, Sheehan
Beckford, Howson, Douglas, Johnson
Luciano, ny spiss

Jay Bothroyd admits his proposed move from Wolverhampton Wanderers to Leeds United is still up in the air.
Leeds have had a bid for the striker accepted by Wolves, but Bothroyd said: " A decision hasn't been made yet as to where I'm going to be going so I am training here (at Molineux) until I hear otherwise."

Becchio spilte i 2 avisjon, avdeling B.....
Snart helg:)

FORMER Scotland striker
Stevie Crawford has snubbed interest from two SPL sides and an English Championship team to sign for East Fife.
The 34-year-old, who was released from Dunfermline at the end of last season, had reportedl been courted by Inverness Caledonian Thistle and another unnamed SPL side, along with a Championship team, about moving.
But the 25-times capped striker decided he wanted to stay in Fife and has instead joined the Third Division champions.
Delighted East Fife boss Dave Baikie revealed: “We’d heard that there was a possibility he was available but Stevie had a couple of genuine offers from SPL clubs so it’s been kind of an on-going thing.
“He had to weigh things up but, with his family and his personal life here, he wanted to stay in Fife.

Ankers
Frazer, Rui, Huntington, Sheehan
Beckford, Howson, Douglas, Johnson
Luciano, ny spiss

The 26-year-old striker has been made available for transfer by Wolves boss Mick McCarthy and has attracted the attentions of several Championship clubs, including FA Cup finalists Cardiff City.
The Molineux outfit have accepted a deal worth £300,000 from the Whites, but Bothroyd's spokesperson insists he wants to choose his next club carefully.
He said in the Yorkshire Evening Post: "Jay is flattered to be linked with Leeds United. But he will be making his decision a little later on in the transfer window.
"There are a few other interested parties. But Jay realises Leeds are a huge, huge club and he is considering this option.
"Jay has huge respect for Gary McAllister, having worked with him before. He knows what he can bring to a football club."
"Jay has one year left (at Wolves) and is taking his time to make a decision.
"At this moment, there is no rush and he is concentrating on getting fit for the season, regardless of where he is."

Three big names are travelling with the reserves on a mini-tour, for two of them could it be their last action in a Leeds shirt?
Tresor Kandol, Ian Westlake and Seb Carole have been named in a squad of reserves and youngsters embarking on a mini-tour tomorrow (Thursday).
Unknown Hereford based outfit Pegasus Juniors are the first opponents (Thursday 7.30pm) before the party moves on to Newport County on Saturday for a 3pm kick off.
But the most significant addition is that of Seb Carole and Ian Westlake, two established first-teamers under previous management regimes of Wise and Blackwell, but now seemingly their days are numbered at Elland Road.
Winger Carole had been on trial at Le Havre in his native France, but nothing appears to have come of that. Midfielder Westlake was shipped out on-loan to Brighton at the end of last season.
Carole has shown glimpses of quality and I know that many Leeds fans think he would be worth keeping on for at least another season. Westlake has always battled on gamely, if not achieving brilliance in the centre of the park.

Hearts keen on move for Riordan Celtic's Derek Riordan may be heading back to Edinburgh, with Hearts understood to be interested in the unsettled striker.
Hibs have dismissed speculation that they had made enquiries for the player who left Easter Road in June 2006.
But city rivals Hearts are thought to be lining up an offer for the 25-year-old forward.
Celtic are prepared to sell Riordan but are believed to want a fee in excess of £500,000 for him.
Riordan has made just 29 appearances for Celtic since leaving Hibs and Burnley and
Leeds United have expressed a recent interest in the player.
However,
Leeds were discouraged by the asking price, while the Turf Moor club have just signed winger Chris Eagles from Manchester United.
Riordan, who has a year running on his contract, was tipped for big things, having topped the scoring charts at Easter Road for three campaigns running.
But he found first team opportunities limited under Celtic manager Gordon Strachan and voiced his discontent with the situation last season.
Riordan banged in 61 goals in three seasons for Hibs and has long been linked with a return to the club where he started his career.
A strict wage structure would appear to count against his former employers, while Hearts are prepared to pay higher salaries.

(,,,,) One signing which could be completed today is that of Becchio, whose transfer from Spanish club Merida to Elland Road is in its final throes.
Becchio spent yesterday searching for accommodation in West Yorkshire, and the deal will be completed once United receive international clearance for the 24-year-old forward.
The ex-Barcelona player missed Tuesday's friendly against Darlington but could return to McAllister's squad against FCV Dender at Elland Road on Saturday, and United have worked to tie up the transfer quickly ahead of the first game of the new season on August 9.
Becchio's permanent arrival will increase the number of experienced strikers available to McAllister to five â€" adding him to a pool which already includes Jermaine Beckford, Enoch Showunmi, Robert Snodgrass and Tresor Kandol â€" and United's failure to capture Bothroyd is unlikely to trouble their manager unduly.
McAllister, above, is still keen to recruit one additional forward, with Crystal Palace's Dougie Freedman again in the frame, but the Leeds boss said: "As we weigh up the pros and cons of (signing Freedman) there are others on my mind as well.
"On the other side of things there are two or three who might be going the other way."

(....) Becchio watched last night's goalless draw from the stands, having featured in United's friendlies against Shelbourne and Barnet, and the 24-year-old striker's transfer to Elland Road is now on the verge of completion.
"We should be sorted in the next couple of days, and we just need the international clearance," said McAllister. "The little formalities of the signing should be all done and dusted, hopefully by Thursday."
United's manager, meanwhile, confirmed that he is interested in bringing Dougie Freedman back to Elland Road admitting the striker is "still a player on our minds".
Freedman is under contract for another season with Crystal Palace but is not certain of a first-team role under Neil Warnock next term, and he revealed to the YEP last month that he would make a decision on his future after his testimonial with Palace, which was staged at Selhurst Park last night.
But United's hopes of signing Liverpool striker Krisztian Nemeth on loan appear to have faded after the Hungarian's agent ruled out the possibility of a temporary switch from Anfield to Elland Road.

Douglas Linked With Burnley Move
Burnley are being linked with a bid for Leeds midfielder Jonathon Douglas.
The Turf Moor club are understood to be interested in signing Douglas, who is entering the final year of his contract at Elland Road.
Douglas also appears to be out of the first team picture at Leeds as he was only a second half substitute on Saturday against Dender and Gary McAllister is set to name a new skipper this week for the season ahead.

Burnley are trying to sign Leeds United midfielder Jonathan Douglas, BBC Radio Leeds understands.
The Republic of Ireland international captained Leeds last season, but manager Gary McAllister has hinted that he could change his captain.
The 26-year-old has one year left on his current deal after signing in August 2006 following a successful loan spell from Blackburn.
He has made over 100 appearances for Leeds, scoring nine goals.
Meanwhile, McAllister has told BBC Radio Leeds he will name his new captain later this week.
"I have it sorted in my mind who it will be, but just want to name him in the lead-up to the Scunthorpe game," said McAllister.
"I want 11 leaders on that pitch, and I'll grab the lads and name my captain in the middle of this week."

Leeds boss Gary McAllister has revealed several players could soon be heading through the Elland Road exit door ahead of the new season.
The Leeds manager has made five summer signings - Andy Robinson, Enoch Showunmi, Alan Sheehan, Robert Snodgrass and Luciano Becchio - but hinted there could be some departures.
He said: "There might be some people going the other way now."
Meanwhile, McAllister is still keeping the identity of his new skipper under wraps.
He added: "I've got it sorted in my mind and will tell the lads. I want 11 leaders in the team though."

Cristiano Ronaldo was linked with a record transfer move to Real Madrid
Fortunately, or unfortunately, depending on your affiliations, there is only one Cristiano Ronaldo.
For most players, negotiations over multi-million pound transfers have never been mooted, let alone turned into a summer-long pantomime.
In a see-saw transfer tale which has dominated the back pages, the Manchester United winger had looked set for a world record move to Real Madrid until, this week, the 23-year-old declared he would be staying at Old Trafford for "at least one more season".
The likes of Ronaldo, Gareth Barry and Emmanuel Adebayor may have spent the close season outrageously flirting with various clubs in a manner which would have put Jessica Rabbit to shame.
For those blessed with a little less magic in their boots, or whose prowess on the pitch has been withered away by Old Father Time, the summer has consisted of seemingly endless trials and hopeful phone calls to chairmen, managers and old team-mates in a bid to find a new club.
High-profile casualties include Freddie Ljungberg, Ivan Campo and Patrik Berger, but mixed with those illustrious names are veteran journeymen, aspiring teenagers and twenty-somethings desperately trying to make a living.

Joachim won nine caps for England Under-21s
Julian Joachim was released by Darlington at the end of last season and according to the 33-year-old former Aston Villa, Leeds United and Leicester City striker the search for a new club gets more difficult with age.
Joachim, who just over 10 years ago moved from Filbert Street to Villa Park in a £1.5m deal, told BBC Sport: "At the end of the season you want to relax and switch off, but you've got to be fresh, go on trials and try to prove you're good enough.
"It gets harder and harder as the years go by, especially around the smaller clubs."
The League Two club had a year's option on his contract, but Joachim was told he had no future at the Arena and is now preparing to ply his trade on a part-time basis in the Blue Square North with King's Lynn.
"Basically, the budget at Darlington had been slashed by half and they took me into the office to tell me they couldn't keep me because they hadn't got the funds," explained Joachim.
"They talked to me about their situation; I talked to them about my situation and it was best for both parties that I got out. I knew King's Lynn were interested and the club is in an ideal location as it's near home in Boston."
The average footballer, according to Mick McGuire, primary deputy chief executive of the Professional Footballers Association (PFA), leads a "precarious existence".
Around 500 players were released from their clubs at the end of last season, and McGuire told BBC Sport: "About 15 to 20%, that's 1/6 of footballers, are losing their jobs at the end of every season.
"If you or I were in an industry with a turnover that high then we'd be seriously worried. Adding to the insecurities players face, they are also increasingly being given short-term contracts, and not two-year contracts like they used to."
To help players get back on football's conveyor belt, the PFA keeps a register of available players called the Player Transfer Directory.
It is a bit like a dating service for managers looking for that special someone. In fact, the directory outshines the average matchmaking website.
Not only does the directory provide the customary picture profile, age, height and nationality, but it provides information on the players' favourite positions and a brief history on their previous dalliances: seven clubs in five seasons (possible commitment issues); season-long loan (strangely given permission to play away).
Walsall manager Jimmy Mullen believes the directory is invaluable for clubs working on a shoe-string budget in a sport where money no longer talks but deafens.
Mullen has managed Burnley and Blackpool
"If you look at the standard of League One and League Two, it's becoming higher and higher," the former Sheffield Wednesday and Cardiff City player told BBC Sport.
"You've got clubs like Shrewsbury spending £170,000 on players so it's becoming tougher to get the right calibre of player."
While Mullen sympathises with those players who face an uncertain future, the beautiful game has, according to the League One boss, become an unsentimental rat race, with clubs scurrying around to cobble together a promotion-winning squad.
Mullen said: "Telling a player he is no longer wanted is something that you get used to. I think the player usually has an idea so it's not that difficult. When it catches a player by surprise then it's a case of explaining why, but life goes on.
"It is not a nice thing to tell people but it is a necessity. You've got to do it because football is a rat race. It is a results-orientated business.
"If a manager doesn't get results then he gets the sack, so if a player does not do his job then he has to go and someone else has got to come in. It is a vicious circle, but, unfortunately, that's the way football is."
Some decide to step out of the circle, but others persevere. Former Wales and Cardiff City defender Jason Perry believes players need to be "mentally tough" if they are to stay in the game.
Perry, who for the last four years has been running a football academy in South Wales, focusing on educating youngsters as well as honing their football skills, said: "Nearly 99% of boys want to become footballers so when they walk through our doors you've got to tell them the truth: not everybody makes it.
"You've got the be in the right place at the right time. The boys come in and they're very negative in the way they play because they worry too much about making mistakes. It's a case of changing their thought process.
"Football is about opinions, someone else's opinion might be different so you've got to be mentally tough and stay positive."

Leeds United cup hero Beckford is not for sale
(http://editorial.jpress.co.uk/web/Upload/LEED//TH1_138200833chester13.jpg)
Gary McAllister today vowed to fight off any bids for Jermaine Beckford before the transfer window closes after the striker's first professional hat-trick fired Leeds United into the second round of the Carling Cup.
German Jordan visit Leeds United: Click here for full story and video of Claudia Ciesla.
Beckford struck three times in the first half of last night's televised tie at Chester City to guide Leeds to a 5-2 victory and take his tally of goals to four after only two matches of the 2008-09 season.
Ruthless Leeds United show no mercy: Click here to enjoy a match report from United's 5-2 win against Chester.
The 24-year-old secured United's 2-1 win over Scunthorpe on Saturday, and a sublime treble at the Deva Stadium â€" completed by an audacious 30-yard lob â€" has set him on course to repeat the haul of 20 goals he produced for Leeds last term.
Beckford is arguably United's most valuable player and has been linked with both Derby County and Norwich City during the past eight months, but the improving financial position at Elland Road left McAllister under no pressure to sell any of his senior players this summer.
The determination of Leeds to retain their leading scorer is not thought to have been tested by a serious offer for Beckford, but their manager indicated that prospective bidders would be wasting their time by inquiring about the former non-league forward ahead of the summer transfer deadline which falls on August 31.
McAllister said: "His attitude throughout pre-season was superb and he looks as if he wants to score goals.
"I'd be disappointed if I didn't have people interested in Jermaine but we're trying to get things going at our place and he's one of our better players.
"He's on a lengthy contract and nobody will leave the club unless I want them to go.
"That's what the chairman's said to me and I trust him."

Preston North End Miss Out On Striker Target
Preston North End were involved in a transfer tussle with Crystal Palace, Blackburn Rovers, Leeds United and Huddersfield town to sign striker Tom Denton.
The young starlet, plying his trade in Unibond League Division One North for Wakefield was eventually snapped up by this boyhood team Stan Ternent`s Huddersfield. The gangly teenage striker cost over £100,000 and trialed at Rovers and Palace but they could not come to contract agreements.
The Wakefield Express reported Wakefield FC managing director Pete Bevils revealed to them that Preston North End, Crystal Palace and Leeds United had also shown a keen interest in the striker.
Recently PNE Vital brought you the news that we were chasing another 19 year old striker from Newcastle Blue Star, Lee Novak who was their top scorer last season with 22 goals.
Maybe this is the type of player that we need to sign to keep our heads above water. The Championship has a few players who have been plucked from the depths of football to become stars. With minimal risk involved signing a youngster from the lower league seems to be something on Irvine`s to do list.

The Premier League have confirmed that the first transfer deadline of the season will be extended to midnight on September 1.

The move has been agreed between the Premier League, Football League and Football Association.
Teams will then have to wait until January to sign players.

Preston Moving In To Sign Stokes?Press in the North East are reporting that Preston are one of a host of clubs, including Plymouth Argyle, Sheffield Wednesday and Leeds United looking to sign Republic of Ireland man Stokes from Sunderland.
The Northern Echo reports,
"Anthony Stokes has also been the subject of a number of inquiries in the last 48 hours.
Plymouth and Sheffield Wednesday have both made formal inquiries about the Republic of Ireland international, while Preston and Leeds are also understood to be interested in taking the striker on loan. "
A loan deal for the player would go a long way to ease the pressure on Neil Mellor to score the goals from upfront this season.
Looking at the other candidates for his signature Preston May be in poll position. With Leeds playing in League One, Sheffield Wednesday being in financial dire straights and Plymouth being the other end of the isle it could be that Preston will be an attractive prospect for the young striker. Add to that we already have Ross Wallace on loan from Sunderland and it paints the Lilywhites in a good light.

Riordan has made just 29 appearances for Celtic since leaving Hibs and Burnley and Leeds United have expressed a recent interest in the player.
However, Leeds were discouraged by the asking price, while the Turf Moor club have just signed winger Chris Eagles from Manchester United.

Hearts keen on move for Riordan
Celtic's Derek Riordan may be heading back to Edinburgh, with Hearts understood to be interested in the unsettled striker.

Hibs, Leeds battle for Celtic striker Riordan
By Ally MacLeod - August 28, 2008
Hibs and Leeds United have both made loan bids for Celtic outcast Derek Riordan.
However, the player's representative, Jim McArthur, believes that neither offer will persuade Celtic to part with the 25-year-old striker.
He said: "Unfortunately for Derek, it looks like he will be at Celtic beyond the transfer window as the club are not receptive to loan deals and that's all that's been offered at the moment."
-----------

Southend are reportedly in talks to land Crystal Palace striker Dougie Freedman, according to local media in south London. The veteran frontman spent the latter half of last season on loan at Leeds United where he helped them to a playoff final by scoring five goals in 11 games.

Leeds, Owls eye Stokes move
Sheffield Wednesday and Leeds United have been linked with a loan move for Sunderland’s Republic of Ireland striker Anthony Stokes.
Stokes has fallen down the pecking order at the Stadium of Light following the arrivals of Djibril Cisse and David Healy this week.
Preston Moving In To Sign Stokes?
Press in the North East are reporting that Preston are one of a host of clubs, including Plymouth Argyle, Sheffield Wednesday and Leeds United looking to sign Republic of Ireland man Stokes from Sunderland.

PHIL HAY: Same old story for the academies
IT is unlikely that Ken Bates and Simon Jordan are close friends or vicious enemies â€" Jordan once gently dismissed Leeds United's chairman as "not really my cup of tea" â€" but they stand on common ground over the fair trade of academy players.
The issue has been given much thought by both men, experienced as they are in the business of protecting their clubs' youngest assets.
They have come to the conclusion that the game is one which lower league chairmen tend to lose more often than they win, however belligerently they attempt to fight off the groping hands of the Premier League.
Bates used his programme notes before Tuesday's Carling Cup match against Crystal Palace, Jordan's own club, to take up the argument over John Bostock, the young midfielder who joined Tottenham from Selhurst Park for £700,000 in July.
United's chairmen did not mention Bostock by name, but it was easy enough to understand which particular player he was discussing.
It was also clear he supported Jordan's view that Palace's pocket had been picked by the award of less than £1million in compensation by a Football League tribunal.
Bostock's transfer was a classic example of why clubs beneath the Premier League have a love-hate relationship with youth development.
The midfielder was nurtured patiently by Palace, who had no desire to sell the player and had hoped to convince him that Selhurst Park was a more conducive home for a 16-year-old than White Hart Lane.
But their power of retention was drained by the fact that Bostock's contract had expired. He duly walked, and a tribunal was asked to set his fee.
The final settlement of £700,000, which Palace were obliged to accept, was described as a "packet of crisps" by Jordan â€" a comment which may not have struck a universal chord among the general public â€" but Bates seems to agree that the Championship club were sold short.
Tribunals, he argued on Tuesday night, had a responsibility to take into account the time and money invested by clubs in youth development when setting a player's fee, rather than simply basing their price on current market value.
He also contended that the fee should reflect the number of young prospects who failed to reach a professional standard but were funded and supported through the same YTS scheme nonetheless.
The argument is not without merit â€" it is actually a view that other lower league chairman would share â€" but it would take a major shift in attitude and a move against the interests of the Premier League to ensure that clubs in Palace's position feel suitably compensated when they lose players of Bostock's age and potential, even though more aggressive tribunals would force major clubs to think seriously about which players to poach.
A fee of £700,000 is relatively easy money for Spurs; a sum five times as high might have made them consider precisely how valuable Bostock would be to them.
It was, in fact, Leeds who fought back two years ago when they prised around £4million from Chelsea for Tom Taiwo and Michael Woods, having originally been offered a 10th of that amount.
The key issue about Bostock, however, was not so much his price, but rather his insistence on leaving Palace to sign for Spurs in the first place.
The 16-year-old may succeed in becoming a household name for sporting reasons when he reaches his prime, but he may equally go the way of Wayne Routledge, whose transfer between the same two clubs was a wasted exercise. Jordan warned Routledge at the time that it would be so.
Leeds, since the turn of the century, have lost more academy players than they would care to admit â€" Scott Carson, James Milner and so on ad nauseum.
Few required tribunals to decide their fees, and few were sold against United's wishes. The motivation for talking transfers was usually Leeds' weak financial position.
But it was also obvious that declining fortunes at Elland Road perpetuated the exodus.
Taiwo and Woods were sucked in by Chelsea, and though Danny Rose declined a move to Stamford Bridge at the same time â€" apparently intending to build his career at Leeds â€" he left for Spurs the following summer.
While the story of United's academy during the past decade talks of large sums of money generated, it also catalogues an unbelievable amount of talent sacrificed.
Through the likes of Milner, serious amounts of money came United's way â€" Milner might bring in an additional amount if a sell-on clause in his contract at Newcastle is activated before Monday's transfer deadline â€" but to what end?
Much of the income will have been sucked away by debt and insolvency, and United were relegated to League One. Little was truly gained from those sales.
The issue of youth development at Elland Road has been given fresh relevance by the sudden flurry of new, talented individuals who are moving from the club's academy towards their first team.
To that number can now be added Aidan White, whose performance against Palace on Tuesday oozed potential and marked him out immediately as a player who Leeds must nurture and protect.
United, according to Bates, are not required to auction their better players, and selling talented prospects is no longer an acceptable strategy for Leeds.
But the true warning given by Bostock's move is that the academies of clubs estranged from the Premier League are as vulnerable as ever to the men from the top-flight who would seek to turn young heads. Defending the splendid work of their academy staff is another reason why Leeds must break free from League One this season.
