Preston North End Miss Out On Striker Target

Preston North End were involved in a transfer tussle with Crystal Palace, Blackburn Rovers, Leeds United and Huddersfield town to sign striker Tom Denton.
The young starlet, plying his trade in Unibond League Division One North for Wakefield was eventually snapped up by this boyhood team Stan Ternent`s Huddersfield. The gangly teenage striker cost over £100,000 and trialed at Rovers and Palace but they could not come to contract agreements.
The Wakefield Express reported Wakefield FC managing director Pete Bevils revealed to them that Preston North End, Crystal Palace and Leeds United had also shown a keen interest in the striker.
Recently PNE Vital brought you the news that we were chasing another 19 year old striker from Newcastle Blue Star, Lee Novak who was their top scorer last season with 22 goals.
Maybe this is the type of player that we need to sign to keep our heads above water. The Championship has a few players who have been plucked from the depths of football to become stars. With minimal risk involved signing a youngster from the lower league seems to be something on Irvine`s to do list.

Southend United have failed with an attempt to sign Leeds United midfielder Jonathan Douglas on loan. The League One club are understood to have expressed an interest in Douglas last week, according to sources in Essex, but have now recruited Lee Sawyer on loan from Chelsea.

TRANSFER DEADLINE PUT BACK
The Premier League have confirmed that the first transfer deadline of the season will be extended to midnight on September 1.
The window is usually scheduled to close 24 hours earlier but has been put back because August 31 falls on a Sunday, following normal league guidelines.
The move has been agreed between the Premier League, Football League and Football Association.
Teams will then have to wait until January to sign players.

DOUGLAS REJECTS SHRIMPERS LOAN MOVE
Leeds midfielder Jonathan Douglas, who lost the club captaincy in the summer, has rejected a three-month loan to League One rivals Southend.
The Republic of Ireland international, 26, is yet to make a League One appearance for Leeds this season, though he did come on as a substitute for Jonathan Howson in the 5-2 Carling Cup win over Chester last week.

Burnley Refute Bruce Link
Burnley manager Owen Coyne has denied yesterday’s reports linking Alex Bruce with his club. Bruce has become a fringe player at Town in the last couple of months and was mentioned in connection with the Clarets and Leeds United.
Coyle said: “I speak to Jim Magilton quite a lot and as much as I think the boy's a good player, it's not a name we've ever discussed.”

Leeds eye flying Dutchman: Bechan targets Elland Road move

Leeds United have handed a trial to Dutchman Kiran Bechan, skysports.com understands.
The pacey winger is currently with Spanish outfit Hercules and previously trained with Inverness Caledonian Thistle earlier this month.
Now Leeds Gary McAllister is giving Bechan a chance to win a move to Elland Road.
Bechan began his career at Ajax but he played just once for the Amsterdam giants, before stints with Sparta Rotterdam, FC Groningen and Den Bosch.
He moved to Spain last year but only played nine times.

Agent cool on Windass Leeds United link
Dean Windass' representative today played down talk of the Hull City striker making a move to Leeds United this summer.
Windass was linked with a transfer to Elland Road yesterday, with Leeds rumoured to be preparing a £100,000 bid for the ex-Bradford City forward, but his agent John Hendrie insisted reports of United's interest was "news to me".
The 39-year-old is on course to return to the Premier League next month after his sensational goal in last season's Championship play-off final completed Hull's promotion to the top-flight for the first time in over a century.

Leeds, Owls eye Stokes move

Sheffield Wednesday and Leeds United have been linked with a loan move for Sunderland’s Republic of Ireland striker Anthony Stokes.
Stokes has fallen down the pecking order at the Stadium of Light following the arrivals of Djibril Cisse and David Healy this week.
Manager Roy Keane has given the go-ahead for the 20-year-old Dubliner to leave for valuable first-team experience, and he has hinted that Wednesday, who operate at a higher level than their Yorkshire rivals, could be his preferred destination.
Keane said: “Anthony would benefit from going out and getting 20 games. He’s good enough to go and play in the Championship.”

Spennende! Håper det er hold i ryktet.
Husker at en rekke klubber (bl.a.

Preston Moving In To Sign Stokes?
Press in the North East are reporting that Preston are one of a host of clubs, including Plymouth Argyle, Sheffield Wednesday and Leeds United looking to sign Republic of Ireland man Stokes from Sunderland.

The Northern Echo reports,
"Anthony Stokes has also been the subject of a number of inquiries in the last 48 hours.
Plymouth and Sheffield Wednesday have both made formal inquiries about the Republic of Ireland international, while Preston and Leeds are also understood to be interested in taking the striker on loan. "
A loan deal for the player would go a long way to ease the pressure on Neil Mellor to score the goals from upfront this season.
Looking at the other candidates for his signature Preston May be in poll position. With Leeds playing in League One, Sheffield Wednesday being in financial dire straights and Plymouth being the other end of the isle it could be that Preston will be an attractive prospect for the young striker. Add to that we already have Ross Wallace on loan from Sunderland and it paints the Lilywhites in a good light.
