Lions set for talks with Kandol
Millwall manager Kenny Jackett is keen to resolve the future of striker Tresor Kandol, who is on loan from Leeds, in the near future.
Lions eye Tres deal
Leeds United look set to cash in on Tresor Kandol after Millwall confirmed their interest in extending the striker's stay in London.
Millwall manager Kenny Jackett is planning talks with his Leeds counterpart Simon Grayson about the future of Kandol, whose half-season loan at the New Den expires later this month.
Kandol's future in the balance
The future of striker Tresor Kandol looks increasingly likely to lie away from Elland Road.
Kandol is on loan at United's League One rivals Millwall, where he has scored eight goals in 17 league outings this season, and the London club confirmed this week that they want to keep the striker beyond the end of his loan deal on January 28.
The 27-year-old has a contract with Leeds which runs until the summer of 2011 but as many as six strikers â€" including new recruit Lee Trundle â€" are ahead of him in the selection order at Elland Road, and Leeds United boss Simon Grayson suggested that he would consider any serious bids for Kandol this month.

Watford make striker available for loan
20-year old Sierra Leone midfielder Al Bangura will be allowed to leave Vicarage Road on a loan deal
League One teams Leicester City, Leeds United and Millwall are all thought to be in the frame for Bangura.
Bangura was nearly deported back to Sierra Leone in 2007 but won a work permit appeal in early 2008 to allow him to remain in the UK.

Inverness will not consider player swap deal for Cowie
Motherwell have made an approach to sign Don Cowie but Inverness insist any deal will not involve a player in exchange.
Inverness' director of football Graeme Bennett says manager Craig Brewster has ruled out the midfielder leaving in such an arrangement.
"Mark McGhee spoke to Craig Brewster about a possible swap, but that was not something which would appeal to Craig or the club," Bennett told the Press and Journal.
"Unless it was one of Motherwell's best players involved, and that is not the case, then there would be little benefit to Caley Thistle."
Bennett also confirmed that talks regarding a new contract for Cowie are continuing.
He added: "We have remained in discussion and spoke again on Tuesday.
"Nothing has been decided yet and, although there has been a lot of speculation, the only direct contact from any club has been the approach from Motherwell.
"Don had said all along he wants to look at his options and that is fair enough.
"There is bound to be interest in him because he is a good player, but we have not given up hope that he could stay.
"Hopefully, Don and his agent will get back to us and we will have a better idea of his intentions in the next 24 hours."

Mixu - Jones committed to Hibs: Hibs boss not surprised by bid for skipper

Hibernian shut up shop for transfer window
Hibernian boss Mixu Paatelainen insists he is looking to strengthen the squad and not sell the likes of skipper Rob Jones or any other player.
Hibs rejected "out of hand" a £100,000 offer for Jones from Colchester on Tuesday.
The Easter Road boss, said: "Colchester made a bid for Rob, we rejected that and the matter is closed.
"There's always speculation, especially when the window opens, and there is again.
"But I'm not worried at all. We are a club who don't need to sell and we are looking to strengthen our squad, and not the other way around.
"To my knowledge, nobody is thinking about contacting us regarding Steven Fletcher, so there is no point in speculating."

Race on for striker
Wolves have agreed a fee of £250,000 with Rangers for striker Alan Gow but still face a battle as both Leeds and Blackpool want him.

Leeds United target Alan Gow's move to Wolves is off after the Rangers midfielder failed a medical at the Coca-Cola Championship club.

Duo plan Gow move: Rangers winger could still move this month
Blackpool and Leeds are lining up moves for Alan Gow following the collapse of his switch to Wolves, skysports.com understands.
Rangers forward Gow saw his move to Championship leaders Wolves fall through on Friday after the Molineux outfit found a problem in his medical.
Gow is believed to be struggling with a hip problem and Wolves were not prepared to push through a permanent deal as a result of the injury.
It is understood the injury is not serious and that the 26-year-old would be able to play through the pain barrier with the problem.
The news has alerted Blackpool and Leeds who were both interested in signing Gow before the Wolves deal fell through.
Blackpool had agreed a deal with Rangers prior to the bid from Wolves following Gow's successful loan spell at Bloomfield Road and they are thought to be exploring the option of taking the former Falkirk ace back on loan until the end of the season.
Leeds boss Simon Grayson is a big admirer of Gow having signed him during his time in charge of Blackpool and he is thought to be keen to bring the skilful attacker to Elland Road to bolster their promotion bid.

Vikings sportsdirektør, Egil Østenstad, vil hverken bekrefte eller avkrefte interesseb overfor aftenbladet.no.

Akinbiyi keen to stay at Clarets

Reported Leeds United target Ade Akinbiyi is keen to fight for his place at Championship play-off hopefuls Burnley - according to sources in Lancashire.
The veteran striker, 34, is out of contract at the end of the season and has only started once league game this campaign, coming on from the sub's bench a further 10 times, scoring just one goal.
But he remains determined to battle for a spot at Turf Moor.
Championship outfit Blackpool and QPR have also been linked with the powerhouse forward.

Blackpool make move for Rangers Gow
Blackpool have confirmed an interest in Rangers Alan Gow after he failed a medical at Wolves.
Gow enjoyed a successful loan spell with the Seasiders in the first half of the season and secretary Matt Williams told the Sunday Mail: "We'll continue to monitor the situation.
"We have spoken to Rangers and Alan's representatives after the situation arose at Wolves. We have asked them for an update."

Bruce Offered New Deal - Report
Town are reported to have offered central defender Alex Bruce a new two-year contract. Bruce’s current terms are up at the end of the season and the 24-year-old has recently been linked with Leeds, Fiorentina, Napoli, Genoa, Norwich, Burnley and Preston.

Grayson's target in demand

Leeds United's hopes of landing defensive target Alex Bruce have suffered a blow â€" with the 24-year-old offered a new two-year deal by Ipswich Town.
United, who have not kept a clean sheet since November 1, are desperate to boost their leaky back four and boss Simon Grayson has put landing some new defenders at the top of his transfer window shopping list following Saturday's dismal 2-0 home lossADVERTISEMENTto Carlisle United.
Leeds' last clean sheet came a whopping 13 games ago, in a 1-0 triumph at struggling Cheltenham Town, and the side has kept just three clean sheets in 24 league games so far this term.
Defensive replacements are a big priority and Bruce was poised to open talks with Leeds after discussions about extending his stay at Portman Road seemingly stalled last week.
Leeds had spoken to Bruce's agent Mike Morris and looked set to offer around £100,000 for a player equally at home at centre-half and right-back.
Bruce â€" son of Wigan boss, Steve â€" is entitled to talk to other clubs with his current deal expiring this summer but the Tractor Boys, where the defender is a firm favourite with fans, have now offered him new terms.
Currently a regular in the Republic of Ireland international squad, Bruce has also been recommended by Eire boss Giovanni Trappatoni to three Serie A clubs, including Fiorentina and Genoa.
Bruce has started 11 Championship games this season, including Saturday's 1-1 draw with Sheffield Wednesday, and the tough-tackling ace has been sent off twice this term.

Leeds United target Alex Bruce is poised to reject a new contract with Ipswich Town and looks set to leave Portman Road this month.
The 24-year-old centre-back has been offered a two-year deal by the Championship club with his current contract due to end in the summer, but his apparent intention to reject the proposal has alerted a number of interested clubs.
Leeds are one of several teams with an eye on Bruce, who has made almost 100 appearances for Ipswich and has been capped once by the Republic of Ireland, but manager Simon Grayson will face competition from the Championship if he decides to pursue the defender.
United are searching for centre-backs in the wake of their 2-0 defeat to Carlisle United last Saturday and a season in which their defence has proved consistently unreliable, and Bruce â€" a former Birmingham City trainee â€" would be a valuable addition to the squad.
Ipswich have not officially revealed Bruce's response to their contract offer, confirming only that new terms are on the table to extend the three-year deal he signed at Portman Road in 2006.

Leeds may make a move for Derby County defender Claude Davis next.
Former Preston and Sheffield United centre-back Davis' last appearance for County was in November.
The Jamaica international is thought to be interested in a move away from Pride Park to get regular first team football and it is thought he is on Simon Grayson's wish-list.
New Derby boss Nigel Clough is looking to release some fringe players, with plenty of defensive strength in depth, and he could decide to sell Davis in this month's transfer window.

Added toughness gives Grayson hope for future

SIMON GRAYSON believes the addition of Richard Naylor and Carl Dickinson will bring some much-needed steel to the Leeds United defence.
The 31-year-old Leeds-born defender has been brought in to bolster a creaking backline that has not kept a clean sheet in 13 outings.
This defensive vulnerability was underlined to the new United manager in last weekend's 2-0 home defeat to Carlisle United and he moved quickly this week to sign Naylor from Ipswich Town, while bringing in Stoke City left-back Dickinson on loan.
Both are likely to start at Brighton & Hove Albion today and Grayson is expecting great things from his signings.
He said: "Carl is someone I have worked with in the past (when Blackpool manager) and the type of player I like, while Richard is a very strong character and a strong personality.
"Richard is the type of player I have been desperate to bring in. They don't call him 'Bamm Bamm' and 'Psycho' at Ipswich for nothing. What we will get from him is 100 per cent commitment.
"I was on the end of some tackles from Richard during my career, but I won't hold that against him!
"He will bring experience from a higher level with Ipswich, where he is their club captain and leader.
"I felt that was an area we needed to strengthen."

Frazer Richardson will continue to lead the side at the Withdean Stadium with Grayson stressing the current captain still enjoys his full support after "doing well for me in the first three games".

En svært spennende spiller, men at Bates legger ut £1mill for en spiller er selvsagt totalt urealistisk... Eller?

Grayson's the loan arranger!

Leeds United manager Simon Grayson will continue to turn his hand to temporary transfers during the January window if loan opportunities offer his club more potential than permanent deals.
Grayson's first three signings as Leeds boss has all been agreed as initial loan moves, bringing Lee Trundle, Richard Naylor and Carl Dickinson to Elland Road, and the 39-year-old does not intend to overlook his preferred targets for the sake of securing long-term arrivals.
United are bidding to fight their way into League One's play-off zone and, after a period of troubled form, are highly likely to make permanent additions to their squad before the transfer window closes on February 2.
But Grayson's willingness to use the loan market has already secured him two recruits from the Championship and one from the Premier League.
Trundle and Naylor have arrived at Elland Road on one-month deals from Bristol City and Ipswich Town respectively, and Dickinson left Stoke City to agree the same length of temporary contract with Leeds on Thursday afternoon.
Trundle has strengthened Grayson's attacking options with Jermaine Beckford fighting to overcome a succession of hamstring strains and Enoch Showunmi unlikely to play in the near future after suffering a blood clot on one of his lungs, and Naylor and Dickinson have answered the more urgent call for new defenders at Leeds.
A 2-0 defeat to Carlisle United last weekend once again highlight the need for changes in United's porous backline and the successful bids for Naylor and Dickinson allowed Grayson to travel to Brighton yesterday with two new options to work with.
Grayson said: "It works both ways. Sometimes you don't want to go in too quickly and make permanent signings which turn out to be the wrong ones or are made for too long a period.
"There will be one or two permanent deals coming in, whether they're on free transfers or with transfer fees involved, but at this moment in time the task has been to get fresh faces in from the loan market to make us more solid and get us back on track.
"Some teams utilise the loan market and some teams don't and I just feel it's an option for us to do it that way.
"It can benefit us in the short term but also in the long term as well because if you get players in on season-long loans then you've got them for a decent length of time, and if you can turn loans into permanent deals then even better.
"I'm trying to bring players in whether it's on permanent deals or loans and it's simply to make sure that the club starts winning matches."
Trundle, who joined Leeds in time for their clash with Carlisle at Elland Road last weekend, has already indicated that his stay in Yorkshire may not run beyond a month, but Grayson revealed that United have the option to sign Naylor permanently from Ipswich before the end of the transfer window.
Naylor, 31, is a lifelong Leeds fans and an experienced centre-back who Grayson hopes will rectify the failings of a defence which had kept only five clean sheets before yesterday's League One game at Brighton.
The Ipswich club captain has made in excess of 300 appearances for his parent club during more than 13 seasons in Suffolk, while left-back Dickinson brought with him experience of winning promotion to the Premier League with Stoke last season.
The 21-year-old was involved with City's first team regularly during the 2007-08 term but has found a first-team place difficult to come by since the summer and has been allowed to depart the Britannia Stadium by Stoke manager Tony Pulis.
Dickinson and Grayson worked together briefly while United's boss was manager of Blackpool in 2006, and Dickinson is understood to have rejected offers from Blackpool and Charlton in order to move to Leeds.
Grayson said: "In the past things have worked out for me with transfers.
"I've managed to spot a player and I've hopefully turned lads into better players. I like to think I know enough about the division to be able to bring the right people in.
"I won't sign players for the sake of it and they need to fit into the framework of the footballing side here and also fit into the dressing room.
"You do a lot of work on this and spend a lot of time watching games, and by doing that you hopefully get the right players in more often than the wrong ones.
"I've been analysing the squad that was already here and I said from day one that they were all on an even keel.
"I've now got my opinion on certain players who I don't think will fit into the way I want to play so there will be one or two leaving before the window shuts and one or two more coming in."
Leeds have not sanctioned the departure of any of their existing first-team players during the first fortnight of the transfer window, though the club are willing to listen to offers for the likes of Tresor Kandol and Ian Westlake who are currently on loan away from Elland Road.
Grayson has a squad of over 25 senior players and is planning to trim down the number of professionals available to him and keep a grip on the wage bill.
The United boss said: "We've got a good-sized squad and I can't just keep bringing players in while keeping the existing squad because we've got far too many here.
"It's also unfair to keep players here who aren't going to feature."
Leeds have been linked with a host of other defenders this week, including Derby County centre-back Claude Davis and Cardiff City's Darren Purse, both of whom are out of favour with their present clubs.
The Elland Road club have rejected a chance to sign former Scunthorpe United captain Izzy Iriekpen â€" another central defender â€" who is available on a free transfer after cutting his ties with Glanford Park.

21 min Oldham tar ledelsen
"
Michael Nelson fluffed his attempted clearance, handing Hughes the chance to control six yards out and coolly slot into the bottom corner." ;)

Mannen er sikkert god Leicester bydde 150000£ for ham i sommer

Leeds may make a move for Derby County defender Claude Davis next.
Former Preston and Sheffield United centre-back Davis' last appearance for County was in November.
The Jamaica international is thought to be interested in a move away from Pride Park to get regular first team football and it is thought he is on Simon Grayson's wish-list.
New Derby boss Nigel Clough is looking to release some fringe players, with plenty of defensive strength in depth, and he could decide to sell Davis in this month's transfer window.

Watford are set to sign Derby central defender Claude Davis on loan for the rest of the season.  (Daily Mail)

Kilkenny's absence from Leeds United line-up alerts rivals

LEEDS UNITED midfielder Neil Kilkenny is understood to be attracting interest from a handful of League One clubs.
The 23-year-old Australian international has made 21 appearances for the Elland Road club this season but is yet to feature under new manager Simon Grayson.
Since the departure of Gary McAllister, Kilkenny has been named on the bench just once â€" the Boxing Day draw with Leicester City â€" and that has alerted several clubs to his possible availability.
It is not known if Leeds would be willing to part with a player who they captured from Birmingham City for £150,000 a little over a year ago after pipping Doncaster Rovers to his signature.
But that has not dissuaded a host of possible suitors from keeping tabs on Kilkenny with several clubs expected to be represented at tonight's reserve team game against Barnsley at Elland Road when Alan Sheehan and David Prutton are also set to feature.
The midfielder, who is understood to have been the subject of an enquiry by Doncaster, played for his country in last year's Olympics and has made 40 appearances for Leeds. He was in the United side beaten by Doncaster at Wembley in the League One play-off final.
Before joining Leeds, he had a successful four-month spell on loan at Oldham Athletic (....)

Cheltenham Town have confirmed their interest in retaining Leeds midfielder Ian Westlake beyond the end of his loan deal at Whaddon Road.

Pools chase Leeds defender?

HARTLEPOOOL United are understood to be interested in signing Leeds left-back Ben Parker, who has not featured for the Elland Road club since November.
SportMail understands director of sport Chris Turner has made an enquiry about the availability of left-back Ben Parker, although that is as far as Pools' interest has gone.
It is thought Leeds would be willing to let the 21-year-old leave the club either on loan or for a small fee.
Parker, who spent three months on loan at arch-rivals Darlington last season, has fallen down the pecking order in the last two months and wasn't even included in the squad for Leeds' win at Brighton.
The defender's chances of first-team action look even more limited after the arrival of on loan Stoke full-back Carl Dickinson, who also impressed at the Withdean Stadium.

Nine players under threat at Leeds

With just over a week remaining of the January transfer window, Simon Grayson will take a look at some of his fringe players in the reserves at Barnsley tonight.
The Leeds boss hasn’t made any permanent signings since taking over from Gary McAllister, although Richard Naylor could make the move from Ipswich when his loan spell is up, and he is certain to want to bring in more players, even if initially on loan.
But that means letting some go and the reserves gave Grayson a final chance to assess where he wants to strengthen and who he is willing to sell.
Grayson hinted that Paul Telfer, Lubo Michalik, Ben Parker, David Prutton, Neil Kilkenny, Peter Sweeney, Alan Sheehan, Malcolm Christie and keeper Dave Lucas were all playing for their future at the club.
“The reserves can be used for first-team players who weren’t involved at the weekend for fitness,” Grayson said, adding: “It also gives me the opportunity to look at them in a game situation.”
There was at least one American whose mind wasn’t concentrating on events in Washington today.
USA under-20 international striker Mike Grella was given clearance to play in the reserves at the start of a trial period at Elland Road.

Leeds warned off Nelson
WHILE Pools Director of Sport Turner is desperate to bring fresh faces to Victoria Park, the temporary manager has also pledged that no-one will be leaving the club this month.
Michael Nelson, who is out of contract at the end of the season, has been linked with moves to Leeds, Leicester and Swindon Town, now under the management of former boss Danny Wilson.
Similarly, Matty Robson, whose deal also expires in the summer, has attracted attention after the transformation of his form over the last few months.
But Turner is adamant that Pools will risk losing players on free transfers in the summer rather than cashing in on them this month.

The Sun like ille som sitt rykte?

Er Marco Materazzi på vei til Tottenham? Blir Juventus Dirk Kuyts nye arbeidsgiver?
Blant de litt mindre pålitelige nevnes gjerne The Sun, Daily Mirror, News of The World og Daily Mail.
The Guardian følger på plassen bak med drøye 27 prosents treffsikkerhet, før The Herald sørger for at skottene tar to av tre plasser på pallen.
Deretter følger i tur og orden The Times, The Independent, Daily Mail, Daily Express og The Sun.
Aller sist ligger News of the World og The People - begge med 12 prosent.

Carver pleased with Toronto FC draft picks
Toronto FC coach John Carver has indicated that for the 2009 season he wants more competition for places.
Speaking on the team's website, Carver explained the thinking behind drafting Stefan Frei, Mike Grella and Kyle Hall.
"We've taken our three first round picks and I'm delighted with them," said Carver. "We sat down beforehand and said if we can get these three guys it will be a great draft. It was a good day for TFC. We've now got a situation where players are going to be put under pressure and that wasn't the case a year ago. You need the competition, it's healthy."

Simpson tries to Holt striker specualtion

Leeds United have been linked with a move for free-scoring Shrewsbury Town hitman Grant Holt.
The Cumbria-born striker has got his career back on track in Shropshire in a big way after joining the League Two promotion-chasers from Nottingham Forest for a club-record £170,000 last summer.
Holt, 27, has plundered 20 goals in a red-hot 2008-09 so far - including five in a memorable 7-0 Johnstone's Paint Trophy win at Wycombe in the autumn.
Shrews boss Paul Simpson has played down interest in his fellow Cumbrian and insists Leeds' interest is purely speculation.
The ex-Carlisle United boss said: "I haven't heard anything official about Leeds' interest.
"It was something that was coming up before Gary McAllister was sacked and has continued with the new manager.
"I know nothing about these rumours. All I can say is that I've heard no official word."

League One clubs eye Leeds’ Kilkenny
Neil Kilkenny could be on his way out at Leeds United after it has been reported rival League One clubs are interested in acquiring his services.
The Aussie midfielder hasn’t been able to find a spot in the first team since new boss Simon Grayson took over and several League One clubs are believed to be monitoring his situation.
Kilkenny signed with Leeds from Birmingham last year for £150,000.

Paul Simpson has scotched rumours that Shrewsbury Town's top scorer Grant Holt has all but signed for Leeds United.
"There's been a lot of speculation about Holty but I've had no calls about him - and I want to keep it that way," boss Simpson told BBC Radio Shropshire.
"The last thing we want to see is for Holt to move, as we all think he can help us achieve promotion this season.
"He hasn't talked to me about Leeds or anyone. He's happy here, and I'm sure all this talk won't affect him."
The 27-year-old joined Shrewsbury for a club record £170,000 from Nottingham Forest last summer.
He has hit 20 goals for the Shrews so far season, 12 of them in League Two.

Westlake leaves Leeds: Midfielder signs six-month deal with Robins
Leeds have agreed to terminate Ian Westlake's contract, allowing him to join Cheltenham on a full-time basis.
The midfielder has signed a contract with the Robins which will run until the end of the season.
Westlake had previously been on loan at Whaddon Road, impressing boss Martin Allen during his time at the club.
"Ian Westlake signed a contract yesterday (Friday), so I'm delighted about that," Allen told the club's official website.
"He's a good player and a good person and he did well to play today (against Brighton), because he's been injured.
"It's great news for Cheltenham Town that he has terminated his contract with Leeds United and he remains with us until the end of the season."

Whites bypass move for Izzy
Leeds United have turned down the chance to sign Izzy Iriekpen from Scunthorpe United.
Iriekpen has been offered to Leeds with his time at Glanford Park drawing to a close but the West Yorkshire club do not see him as the answer to their defensive concerns.

Jepp.

HIBS REJECT NEW U'S BID FOR JONES
Hibernian have rejected a second bid from Colchester for skipper Rob Jones, who has 18 months left to run on his current contract.
The League One club upset the Easter Road board earlier this month when they publicised their first move for the 29-year-old defender despite having had their reported offer of £100,000 turned down.
Colchester manager Paul Lambert returned with an increased bid but a Hibs spokesman said: "Hibs have categorically rejected the second offer from Colchester."
Jones, who scored his fourth goal of the season in the 3-1 defeat by Celtic at Parkhead on Saturday, has 18 months left on his contract at Easter Road but will look to finish his career south of the border.
The former Grimsby player has been linked with Leeds United, Sheffield United, Bristol City, Nottingham Forest and Leicester.

Doubt surrounds the future of United striker Tresor Kandol, whose half-season loan at Millwall has now concluded.
Millwall were expected to seek an extension to Kandol's deal but he was omitted from Kenny Jackett's squad for last night's game at Hereford United, despite being available to play. (YEP)

United transfer talk set to itensify as window closes

TRANSFER dealings â€" or maybe the lack of them â€" are likely to take centre of attention at Elland Road this week with the January transfer window set to close on Saturday.
Surprisingly Leeds United have not actually bought or sold a single player so far this month, although they have added three on loan and have released Ian Westlake and Mansour Assoumani.
But all that could change in the usually frenzied last few days when clubs are allowed to sign players on permanent deals and there may be more leaving than arriving at Leeds.
While manager Simon Grayson has said he does not have to sell, it will be a huge temptation if big money bids come in for Fabian Delph or Jermaine Beckford, who showed his return to fitness with a superb two-goal contribution off the substitute's bench in the 3-1 win over Peterborough on Saturday.
Question marks hang over the likes of Neil Kilkenny, David Prutton, Ben Parker, Paul Telfer and Alan Sheehan after they have not impressed the new manager sufficiently yet to make themselves part of his current first team plans.
And then there is the question of Tresor Kandol, whose successful long loan spell at Millwall ends at the weekend. Grayson has yet to indicate his preference over a forward who still has more than two years left on his Leeds contract, but surely he will be loathe to leave him with United's promotion rivals unless they come up with a big money offer that gives the Elland Road club a tidy profit on the £250,000 they paid for the striker.
The more likely option is that Kandol will be given a chance to re-establish himself at Elland Road in the same way as another played loaned out, Bradley Johnson, has done. With Enoch Showunmi likely to be out or the rest of the season, there is a space in the squad, although opportunities would be limited if Bristol City could be persuaded to let Lee Trundle stay beyond his initial one-month deal.
Leeds fans would no doubt like to see more of Trundle after he scored at Brighton and lit up the Peterborough game with a performance of high skill. The standing ovation he received when taken off near the end showed that he has quickly won himself a new bunch of fans.
His partnership with the pacy Beckford looks ideal for his division and the brilliant way he set up the top scorer for his second goal last Saturday indicated exactly what the pair could do to League One defences if given a regular chance.
The arrival of Trundle also seems to have pepped up his mate from his Swansea days, Andy Robinson, as he returned to the starting line-up against Peterborough and gave one of his most impressive displays in a Leeds shirt.

Hitman Richards not for sale, insists Vale chairman

Port Vale chairman Bill Bratt has dismissed speculation linking top-scorer Marc Richards with a move away from the club by insisting the 26-year-old striker is not up for sale.Talk suggesting Richards could be on his way to either Leeds or Crewe was heightened when he missed Saturday's 4-2 defeat by Notts County, despite the club saying he was injured.
But Bratt took time out to put the record straight today by insisting: "Speculation surrounding Marc is totally untrue because nobody has come in for him.
"I actually heard people on the terraces say Marc didn't play against Notts County because he might be moving, but he didn't play because he had a dead-leg.
"We are not inviting offers for him and we want to keep him."
Richards signed a one-year extension to his current contract last August after rejecting a move to Cheltenham Town.
It is believed Richards's contract, which now ties him to the club until the summer of 2010, still contains the £100,000 release clause that Cheltenham triggered in the summer. (....)

Naylor: I'm open to offers

Richard Naylor today admitted he is open to the idea of a long-term deal with Leeds United â€" but insisted his family would be a major consideration in any negotiations with the League One club.
Naylor is three games into a month-long loan at Elland Road, and the Ipswich Town defender's impressive impact during his short time with Leeds has provoked a clamour among supporters for United to secure him on a permanent basis.
Leeds manager Simon Grayson hopes to increase Naylor's deal beyond the initial month agreed with Ipswich, and Naylor has already established himself in the centre of United's defence, carrying the captain's armband for their last two matches.
The 31-year-old is out of favour at Portman Road, where he has been a professional player for almost 15 years, but his family are based in Suffolk and the defender has hinted that a secure and lengthy agreement with Leeds would be needed to persuade him to uproot and return to his home county of Yorkshire.
Naylor said: "I'm still an Ipswich player at the moment and although the gaffer at Ipswich (Jim Magilton) said I could come here for a month, he didn't say I could leave permanently. It's up to the two managers to sort it out, and it's out of my hands until that happens. But I want to play football and I'm really enjoying myself here.
"(A longer deal) is something I'd be interested in but it is a bit difficult because I've got three young children down in Ipswich. I don't want to live away from them but if there was a situation where I was moving the family up here with me then that would be different. That's definitely something I'd look at."

Kandol's in the bin

Jackett still keen on striker - but won't pay a fee

Having already brought back Adam Bolder to The Den, Millwall boss Kenny Jackett has admitted that he would also like to add Leeds United striker Tresor Kandol to his playing squad - but revealed he is not prepared to pay a fee for the player.

This could spell the end of The Lions' interest in the Congolese international, who returned to Elland Road yesterday after a loan spell that saw him score eight times. Leeds boss Simon Grayson was prepared to listen to offers for the player but it the Yorkshire club have no desire to loan the player out to a possible promotion arrival.

"We were keen to keep Tresor Kandol on loan but Leeds United have said no," Jackett told the News Shopper. "At the moment, I presume he has gone back to Leeds.

"If Leeds want to loan him again we would be interested in talking but in terms of purchasing him, which is the option at the moment, we are not looking to do that.

"We have taken Izale Mcleod on loan and we will have to see how the people we have do."

One or two of the rumours that I heard over the weekend....

1) Goalkeeper and centre back from Newcastle will sign this week. Cant remember either name but the goakeeper played for Carlisle (on loan) at Elland Road the other week.
2) Taylor (winger) from Oldham signing this week in exchange for Kilkenny, Parker and 400,000k
3) Nelson (centre back) signing from Hartlepool.

and wait for it........

4) Viduka will resign in the summer. Apparently he is quoted as saying that "he had his best time at Leeds and wants to end his career here. Money not an issue for him as apparently he feels he owes the fans.

Like I said it is only speculation and I am sure that it will be riduculed. But just in the case it does happen remember that you heard it hear first - though in the interests of confidentiality my source must remain anonymous.

HAY: Now Grayson must ensure new trio stay course

Phil Hay
Inside Elland Road

With the exception of clubs who, like Southend on Tuesday, are unable to muster a 16-man squad, the transfer window is a time when quality signings should take precedence over quantity.
The majority of the Football League's 72 members have adhered to that mantra during a January window which, for all the hype that preceded it, can be described most accurately as subdued.
In comparison to the activity seen 12 months ago, when six-figure fees were commonplace beneath the Premier League, the 2009 market has been stagnant.
It is possible that the hours before Monday's 5pm deadline will vindicate the window's dramatic billing, but there is no obvious enthusiasm for expensive transactions in the lower divisions.
Be that a sign of prudence or a general lack of money, that trend has set in across the board.
Leeds United have been no different, despite the seven-figure profit announced by the club late last year.
Their incoming business in the first 29 days of January totalled three temporary signings, not exactly what might have been expected when their former manager, Gary McAllister, alluded to major plans to revise his squad before Christmas.
The idea of targeting loanees might not have met with the approval of many supporters before the window opened but it is plain to see how well Simon Grayson's three signings have been received. So far, so good after performances which have met the standard of recruit sought by Leeds this month.
Unusually, the fans I spoke to after Tuesday's win over Southend were not consumed by thoughts of what else might happen in the few remaining days of the transfer window, and nor were many expressing the opinion that further signings were necessary.
The general feeling was rather that Grayson's foremost task should be to guarantee that his loanees â€" Lee Trundle, Richard Naylor and Carl Dickinson â€" do not slip through United's grasp by returning to their parent clubs next month.
They are losses that Leeds could scarcely stomach, to gauge by the impression that the trio have made in their short time at Elland Road.
The loan market is a fickle conduit, but the beauty of it has always been the power it gives lower-league clubs to sign players who would not look twice at a permanent transfer.
United might visualise themselves as a future Premier League club, but a player like Dickinson â€" a top-flight left-back with a solid contract at Stoke City â€" cannot be expected to do the same.
Had Grayson stuck blindly to the idea of nailing down long-term signings, Dickinson would not have been considered a serious option.
Through the alternative of a loan, his arrival became possible.
It was imperative this month that Leeds made some attempt to capture players from the divisions above their own.
United have made hard work of this season, but there are a limited number of available signings in Leagues One and Two who would have significantly improved their squad.
Dickinson has done that and the same is true of Naylor and Trundle, professionals whose experience supplements their ability.
All three players have done more than swell Grayson's squad. They have taken hold of first-team places and deservedly retained them, Trundle pushing to the bench on Tuesday an established player in Luciano Becchio.
However comfortable Grayson feels about the number of signings made â€" and I don't get the impression that he seeks masses more â€" he can be happy with those he has completed.
How successful those deals ultimately prove will now come down to United's power of persuasion and their willingness to support Grayson by bearing the cost of keeping Naylor, Dickinson and Trundle at Elland Road for the foreseeable future.
A transfer strategy which has been effective so far will be open to more critical examination if Leeds are unable to retain them.
Grayson has intimated that Naylor's deal could become permanent, and securing the centre-back is an absolute priority in view of the organisation he has brought to United's defence since his winning debut at Brighton.
Trundle's importance to Bristol City is more difficult to assess, and the fact that Dickinson extended his contract at Stoke City on the day he joined Leeds would suggest that a permanent agreement for the 21-year-old is unlikely.
But retaining these three players until the end of the season at all reasonable costs and by any means necessary is now essential. The outcome of United's second year in League One may depend on it.
There is always an unavoidable risk with the loan market â€" the fact that the players available in it are the property of other clubs. It is something that Leeds have fallen foul of before.
Lubomir Michalik has experienced an inauspicious season at Elland Road, something the Slovakian might admit himself, but his loan from Bolton Wanderers to Leeds in 2007 was an unqualified success.
In his seven appearances for a team who, prior to his arrival, lacked any semblance of form, United collected 14 points and rallied strongly against the threat of relegation from the Championship.
But, having signed Michalik until the end of the season, Leeds saw the Slovakian recalled by Bolton with three matches remaining and eight days later the club were relegated.
It is wrong to argue that Michalik's departure was the difference between survival and relegation but it did not help Dennis Wise to see an established player torn from his ranks 24 hours before a crucial game at Southampton.
Wise was angered by the loss and questioned Bolton's motives, but his reaction missed the point. Recalling Michalik was Bolton's prerogative, regardless of their reasons for doing so.
That is the danger of loan signings and the pitfall that Grayson must work to avoid.
He has accurately targeted the type of players needed to rejuvenate United's defence â€" the biggest weakness at Elland Road before his appointment â€" and Trundle's recruitment has brought on board a striker who has previously shown himself to be a 20-goal poacher in League One.
They are already vital assets and players that Grayson will rue the loss of should they drift back to their parent clubs next month.
For Leeds, the point of this transfer window was not to find momentary fixes but to consolidate the club for a League One run-in which looks full of potential once more.
To a man, United's three loan signings have earned acclaim for themselves and for Grayson.
It would be a desperate shame if the improvement they have helped to initiate was watered down by the temporary nature of their deals.
If United's boss ensures their season-long retention before Monday's deadline, he can view this window as a clear success.

Si's loan stars have put us back in race

Peter Lorimer
Talking Soccer

Leeds United went through the mill in the run-up to Christmas and even at my most optimistic I found it difficult to believe that automatic promotion was still within the club's reach.
It wasn't a case of being negative, more a case of being realistic.
After United's dramatic draw against Leicester City on Boxing Day the gap to second place â€" held then and still by MK Dons â€" was a massive 13 points.
When you considered the terrible run of results we were on, reversing that deficit seemed almost impossible.
It is always true, however, that football can change in the blink of an eye.
Despite my suspicions that the best we could hope for was another chance to get the Wembley suits out, Tuesday's victory over Southend United carried us to within six points of the second automatic promotion place, a gap that we have every chance of overturning.
The race is on and we are very much part of it.
Our healthy position is largely down to the speed with which Simon Grayson has adjusted to the manager's job at Elland Road.
Four wins and a draw from his first six matches is an excellent achievement, not least because we'd lost five in a row before he arrived. The recovery we are seeing has, in my opinion, vindicated the decision to bring him here last month.
It wasn't an easy call to sack Gary McAllister, or a change that everyone agreed with, but we needed a drastic improvement after Christmas and, so far, we've had it.
Had Simon experienced a slow first month, it is likely that automatic promotion would have been well beyond us, but our good results have come at a time when other teams seem to be stumbling slightly.
There is pressure on every club in the top six, with the possible exception of Leicester who have broken clear, and our little run will get people thinking.
Everyone knows how much potential we have at Leeds and the teams around us must have been pleased to see the problems we experienced during the first half of the season. Like me, they probably thought we were out of the running for the top two.
I've made the point before that the likes of John Sheridan at Oldham is working with a very small squad.
It was always likely that the strength in depth at Elland Road would come into play at some stage of the season and though other clubs might be feeling the pace slightly I don't think you can say the same of Leeds. If anything, we're growing in stature.
It's no coincidence that our run of three straight wins have materialised since the arrival of our loan players, Richard Naylor, Carl Dickinson and Lee Trundle.
Gary McAllister did not have the luxury of this transfer window, but Simon has picked his signings perfectly and all three of the lads who have arrived so far have made a major impact.
It's vital now that we keep them here.
By making additions in the right area, Simon has taken control of a defence which was struggling and a team which was lacking confidence. We are now starting to see that belief returning, and the spirit of the players was obvious in the performance against Southend on Tuesday. (....)

Grayson: I don't want Fab to leg it
Leeds United manager Simon Grayson has warned off Fabian Delph’s Premiership admirers by insisting: “Ten million pounds wouldn’t buy his left leg!”
The Bradford-born England Under 21 midfielder, who was handed an 18-month driving ban this week for being over the drink limit, has been watched by a host of top clubs including Manchester United, who are said to be pondering a £10million bid.
Delph signed a four-year contract at Leeds in September and Grayson said: “Fab needs to concentrate on his game and I am chuffed to bits that he has been able to do that.
"Since I’ve been here, he has had to deal with speculation about people looking to buy him and he’s had the court case, but he hasn’t allowed anything to affect him.
“That shows a lot of maturity for a 19-year-old. We haven’t welcomed any bids for him and ten million pounds wouldn’t buy his left leg, let alone his right one.”

Fulham push for Fab deal

FULHAM will step up their loan bid for Leeds wonderkid Fabian Delph.
Derby have allowed fellow midfielder Giles Barnes, 20, to join the Cottagers on a temporary deal with a view to a £2.5million move.
And Fulham hope to have Delph, 19, in the bag by Monday after Craven Cottage boss Roy Hodgson gave Leon Andreasen the OK to move to German outfit Hannover.
Fulham, who lost Jimmy Bullard to Hull this month, have been told Spurs star Tom Huddlestone is not available.
Hodgson admitted: “We are light in midfield.”

KANDOL TIL CHARLTON
På lån ut sesongen!

Striker joins Charlton
http://www.leedsunited.com/page/LatestNewsDetail/0,,10273~1538548,00.html

Kandol heading back to London
Leeds United striker Tresor Kandol has made a swift return to London by joining Championship club Charlton Athletic on loan until the end of the season.
Kandol completed a single day's training with Leeds on Thursday morning following the conclusion of his half-season loan at Millwall, but United have agreed to send him to The Valley for the remainder of the 2008-09 term.
The 27-year-old has not featured for the first team at Leeds this season and, regardless of his temporary transfer to Charlton yesterday, was unlikely to have played any part in this afternoon's League One match at Walsall had he been available for selection. Leeds manager Simon Grayson is looking to reduce a sizeable wage bill at Elland Road, and Kandol's departure for the next four months may assist his efforts to sign new players before the current transfer window closes at 5pm on Monday night.
Millwall were expected to move to sign Kandol permanently at the end of his loan at the New Den, during which time he scored eight goals in 18 league appearances, but he was allowed to travel back to Leeds after his initial deal in London expired on Wednesday.
Charlton have now stepped in to recruit the Congolese international, and Kandol has joined a campaign which seems destined to end in relegation from the Championship.
The south London club are eight points from safety at the foot of the division having claimed only five victories from their 29 league games.
Kandol's long-term future is still to be decided â€" the former Luton and Barnet player signed a new contract with Leeds in 2007 which tied him to Elland Road until the end of the 2010-11 season â€" but he had little prospect of featuring in Grayson's plans at Leeds even before his move to The Valley.
United recently signed Lee Trundle on a temporary basis from Bristol City, adding him to their first-choice partnership of Jermaine Beckford and Luciano Becchio, and Grayson revealed before Kandol's return from Millwall that he would consider any fresh offers to take the forward on loan this month.
The striker's deal with Charlton runs until May 3 â€" the date of their final league game at home to Norwich City â€" and he was in line to make his debut during today's Championship match between Charlton and Burnley at Turf Moor.
After watching Kandol in training on Thursday, Grayson stated that he would consider the striker for selection if he remained at Elland Road beyond the end of the transfer window, but his exit has helped to trim a senior squad which Grayson is anxious to reduce in size.
Beckford, Becchio and Trundle will now provide the basis of United's strikeforce with Enoch Showunmi recuperating after suffering a blood clot on one of his lungs and Malcolm Christie searching for new employers after leaving Leeds.

Fulham and Leeds to do battle for Fabian Delph
Fulham and Leeds were last night locked in talks over England Under-21 midfielder Fabian Delph.
The Premier League side had an initial £2.5million bid turned down earlier this week with Leeds looking for £6m.
The two clubs are now negotiating over a series of add-ons for the multitalented 19-year-old - including possible England appearances - which could see the figure rise to £6m.
Fulham sold their England squad man Jimmy Bullard for the same sum last week and see Yorkshireborn Delph as a direct replacement.

Boss mulls over striker deal
Leeds United are still considering whether to make a formal contract offer to American trialist Mike Grella.
The young striker has been training with Leeds for the past fortnight and he saw his name in lights after scoring a hat-trick in United's reserve-team victory over Barnsley last month.
Grella was given another run-out by manager Simon Grayson in aADVERTISEMENT behind-closed-doors friendly against Hull City on Tuesday and the United boss revealed that he is continuing to weigh up the option of offering the 22-year-old a deal at Elland Road.
Grella â€" a former USA international at Under-18 and Under-20 level â€" has already been offered a contract by MLS club Toronto FC, but he is unlikely to take up the deal in Canada and appears keen to begin his professional career in Europe.
Grayson said: "He played in a behind-closed-doors game on Tuesday against Hull and he did okay to be fair.
"He's a young kid who we've been watching closely in training and he's certainly got an eye for goal. It's an option that we could possibly go down but concluding a deal is not always that easy."
Grella has an Italian passport, saving any European club who moves to sign him from the complication of securing a work permit, and the forward showed his ability in front of goal with an impressive hat-trick against Barnsley's second-string at Elland Road on January 20.
He was watched by several Premier League scouts during that reserve fixture but he has remained on trial at Leeds and appears to have maintained the interest of the League One club.
The number of strikers on the books at United was reduced on Thursday by Malcolm Christie's departure from Elland Road. (.....)

Clayton Ince, keeper. Walsall.

Grayson hoping to bolster Whites squad

Leeds United were making their final advances in the transfer market today after suffering a sobering 1-0 defeat to Walsall.
United's encouraging sequence of three successive wins ended with a frustrating loss in the West Midlands on Saturday, and manager Simon Grayson was bidding to complete last-minute adjustments to his squad before tonight's transfer deadline in preparation for the League One run-in.
The Yorkshire club have seen a steady amount of activity during the past 32 days, with three players arriving on loan and six leaving Elland Road on either a temporary or permanent basis, and United were attempting to complete their business before the closure of the January window at 5pm tonight.
All of Grayson's loan signings â€" Richard Naylor, Carl Dickinson and Lee Trundle â€" moved to Elland Road on month-long deals, and a priority for United's boss is securing their services for the remainder of the League One season.
Trundle's temporary deal from Bristol City would be the first to expire, ending after Leeds' game against Millwall a week today, and City manager Gary Johnson has come close to ruling out an extension of his loan until the end of the campaign, describing it as the "least likely" option the Championship club would consider.
Naylor and Dickinson are available to Leeds up until and including their visit to Hereford United on February 17, and United are keen to agree longer stays with Ipswich Town and Stoke City respectively.

Fulham rule out Leeds United raid

Fulham manager Roy Hodgson has ruled out the possibility of a dramatic deadline-day swoop for Leeds United midfielder Fabian Delph.
The Premier League club have been repeatedly linked with 19-year-old Delph since the winter transfer window opened on January 1, but Hodgson has dismissed talk of a last-ditch, big-money offer for the Elland Road teenager.
Leeds have repeatedly stated that they have no plans to sell Delph, and Fulham have moved to strengthen their midfield by making a loan bid for former Elland Road player Olivier Dacourt, now with Inter Milan.
Hodgson said: "We're not looking for 19-year-olds like Delph who may be good some time in the future.
"The important issue is to stay in the Premier League and that's not a place for untried 19-year-olds. We need people with experience."

It's D-Day for deals

Leeds United were making their final advances in the transfer market today after suffering a sobering 1-0 defeat to Walsall.
United's encouraging sequence of three successive wins ended with a frustrating loss in the West Midlands on Saturday, and manager Simon Grayson was bidding to complete last-minute adjustments to his squad before tonight's transfer deadline in preparADVERTISEMENT ation for the League One run-in.
Grayson confirmed when Naylor first joined United that the deal could become permanent, and the 31-year-old centre-back is out of contact at Ipswich in the summer.
Any long-term deals or loans until the end of the season were required to be finalised before tonight's deadline.
Several clubs, meanwhile, have been eyeing Grayson's fringe players over the weekend, with Brighton one of a number of teams interested in Australian midfielder Neil Kilkenny.
The Elland Road boss was leaving negotiations in the hands of technical director Gwyn Williams and chief executive Shaun Harvey today with Leeds preparing for tomorrow night's trip to Leyton Orient.
Grayson said: "We're down the line with a few of our targets, both in and out.
"It was actually a bit of respite having 90 minutes of football (at Walsall) because I couldn't get near to my phone, but by five o'clock tonight I hope I'll have a few players in who'll make us a better squad and ready to push forward for the rest of the season.
"I'll try and let Gwyn and Shaun deal with the transfers because they know the targets I want and hopefully they'll see the deals through." (....)

QuoteStockport County left-back Jim McNulty has joined League One rivals Brighton & Hove Albion.

Oldham: Ingen inn

Not even close.

intet nytt under solen mao.  ;)

konklusjon: trøbbel i PL, større trøbbel i CCC, enda større trøbbel i L1
