LUFC Leeds United Fans View v Bolton I made the trip to Bolton Wanderers on Saturday and Leeds United secured another three points on the road.
As always, it was an eventful day out with the Thames Valley Whites. A broken down bus within twenty minutes of starting and slow moving traffic on the M6 but we still managed to grab a quick pint before making our way into the Reebok.
Here I give my views on the players in a good all-round team performance.
Kenny 7
He had one save to make late in the game and he did well to get down to keep it out. He is commanding his area much better this season and he is regularly coming off his line to clear the danger.
Peltier 7
He was having a decent game until he was forced off with injury in the early stages of the second half.
He was getting little protection from the midfield, often finding himself one-on-one with the Bolton winger, who had little joy.
Wootton 7
He looks very solid and assured beyond his years. Wootton and Pearce are forming a good partnership.
Pearce 7
He is getting better with every game. Last season I wasn`t impressed with him but he has come on leaps and bounds this season. Amazing what a good manager can do with the squad. He throws himself in where it hurts and he is a proper old style defender.
Warnock 6
Probably his best game of the season. He did well in defence but when he got forward, his crossing was still poor.
Tonge 6
He came in for Green and he did a decent job in midfield. He got better as the game went on. He had two or three chances but his shooting was a bit wayward.
Murphy 7
Sometimes he is too easily knocked off the ball but he is always willing and looking to create something for Leeds.
Austin 8 Star Man
He is leading by example this season. He continues to be the enforcer, tracking back to help the defence and then starting the attack. One tackle in the first half had the Leeds fans applauding. He raced back to clear and you could quite clearly see that the Bolton winger wanted no part of the tackle that was coming his way.
Varney 8
He won everything in the air and he worked hard in attack chasing and harrying. A great goal to decide the game. What a different player Varney is now to the one before Christmas.
McCormack 7
He grew into the game in the second half and he also worked tirelessly for the Leeds cause.
Hunt 6
Probably his best game for Leeds and he was another who got better as the game went on. I still think there is a lot more to come from Hunt and I am sure he will be out to prove a point at Reading on Wednesday night.
Subs
Lees 6
He did well when he came on and he produced one excellent ball into the middle. It looks like he will be in there for Peltier on Wednesday night who looked like he has picked up a groin injury.
Summary
What a difference in the team. We are using almost all the same personnel that Neil Warnock was using badly last season. Brian McDermott has them playing with passion and fighting for the cause.
We are so much harder to break down and the defence is looking the best it has looked for a number of seasons.
If we can keep this going, who knows where we will end up in May.
Once again, tremendous travelling support and we are finally getting what we deserve on the pitch.
I am looking forward to my home game at Reading on Wednesday night where I am sure McDermott will have them all fired up.
