McAllister knows his play-off line-up
GARY McALLISTER has sent Leeds United's fringe players away on holiday after admitting he knows his starting line-up for tomorrow's play-off semi-final first leg with Carlisle United.
Ian Westlake and Matt Heath have returned to Elland Road from loan spells with Brighton and Colchester respectively, but McAllister will keep faith with the players who have carried Leeds through his short reign at Elland Road for the League One play-offs.

Whites need to up it again
JONATHAN DOUGLAS is hoping May 25 marks the day when Leeds United conquer the mountain set in front of them by the Football League on August 3.
The midfielder will lead United into the cauldron created by a capacity Elland Road crowd tomorrow night, aware of how finely balanced his club are between unique success and ill-deserved failure.
Douglas was one of the limited number of players oADVERTISEMENTn the club's books when United were hampered by a 15-point deduction from the Football League eight days before the start of the season and it is fitting that he will be given the chance to captain Leeds through the final stages of their battle to override an unprecedented penalty.

These are the games I want, says Macca
GARY MCaLLISTER is calling on his vivid memories of knockout football to prepare him for the tension, excitement and unpredictable drama that Leeds United are about to experience in the League One play-offs.
United's manager will put the finishing touches to his strategy for the Whites' two-legged semi-final against Carlisle today, with Leeds 24 hours away from the start of their epic contest with the Cumbrian club.

Ankergren
Kenton - Huntington - Michalik - Hughes
Prutton - Douglas - Howson - Johnson
Freedman - Beckford

Ward targets Elland Road victory

Carlisle manager John Ward has warned Leeds his side will not be coming to Elland Road to defend in the first leg of their play-off semi-final.
The Cumbrians must pick themselves up for the trip to Yorkshire after throwing away a golden opportunity to win automatic promotion in the final weeks of the season.
A month ago Ward's men were second and looked a decent bet to avoid the play-off lottery but a dismal run of two points from their last five games condemned them to fourth place.
However, Ward has vowed to attack Gary McAllister's side in front of an expected capacity crowd at Elland Road as Carlisle seek to return to the second tier for the first time since 1986.
"There has been nine goals between ourselves and Leeds already this season," said Ward. "We beat them 3-1 at Brunton Park and they beat us 3-2 at Elland Road.
"I'm not suggesting there is going to be that many goals over the two legs but we'll be going all out to win.
"It would be folly of me or Leeds to say 'let's be careful' when the players are thinking 'we can go and win this'.
"I think they will be very open games and you've got to focus on your own attacking prowess.
"We can't go to Leeds for 90 minutes and hope they don't score. We'll push forward and see if we can find a goal."
The game looks set to be a sell-out after a crowd of over 38,000 watched Leeds' final league game of the campaign against Gillingham.
And Leeds midfielder Andrew Hughes believes such huge backing from a raucous Elland Road crowd could swing the tie in his side's favour.
"It takes your breath away when it is like that," said Hughes. "I was honoured to be on the pitch in front of those fans (against Gillingham), but that is Leeds United football club. There's no experience like that.
"I've been at different clubs and experienced different fans, but you can't find the words to describe what it was like against Gillingham. We need to do them proud now and do it for ourselves."
But Ward insists Carlisle will not be overawed, saying: "We've very much got the picture of Elland Road - Leeds United, the history of the club and the dressing rooms - so everything will be reasonably familiar to us.
"Elland Road was practically full when we went there last month and scored two goals against them, so we know we're capable of doing that."

Breaking: Leeds can rise to the occasion

GARY McALLISTER insists his Leeds United side will have no problem in rising to the occasion twice in four days to keep alive their Wembley dream.
Unlike the other two play-off semi-finalists Doncaster Rovers and Southend United, whose two meetings are a week apart, the Elland Road club and Carlisle United must go head-to-head tonight and again on Thursday.
It means there will be little recoADVERTISEMENTvery time for either squad following the first leg at Elland Road when a capacity crowd is likely to witness a frantic encounter between two sides who have already beaten each other in the regular season.
Despite that, McAllister insists: "The quick turnaround is not a problem. We have a nice mix of experience and young legs who are bursting to go. They are good athletes.
"At times, we have been forced to rest players with injuries, but we arrive at this point looking quite fresh."
One of those players who have missed a large chunk of the season is Jonathan Douglas, the United captain having to spend more than three months on the sidelines after being stretchered off with a knee injury in the 1-1 draw at Walsall in mid-December.
The Republic of Ireland international has since made eight appearances and when asked if playing twice in quick succession was a problem, he replied: "For us, it is better.
"I know Doncaster played last Friday and then play again this Friday, but that just means they have a long wait. I would rather have it our way because we will know sooner if we are going to Wembley."
Carlisle surprisingly returned some of their initial 2,000 allocation of tickets last week to ensure that the entire South Stand at Elland Road will be occupied by home fans.
That means the visitors from Cumbria will be restricted to just the South East corner. However, despite their numbers being reduced, the away fans are likely to give Carlisle-born Paul Huntington a rough time tonight.
The Leeds defender was accused of making gestures at the travelling supporters during last month's meeting between the two clubs at Elland Road and subsequently issued a public apology.
Asked whether Huntington would be able to handle any vocal abuse from the Cumbrian fans tonight, United manager McAllister said: "It is a fantastic test for him (Huntington) and I am sure he will be fine."
One man in the Leeds camp who is able to give an invaluable insight into Carlisle and their players is first-team coach Neil McDonald.
He was controversially sacked by the Cumbrians just one game into this season and after a short spell as Peter Jackson's assistant at Lincoln City, he moved to Elland Road to join McAllister's coaching staff along with Steve Staunton.
McAllister said: "Neil knows the players well, he worked closely with the Carlisle lads. We know a bit more about Carlisle than we would other opponents because of that.
"He is a first class coach and the players have enjoyed working with him and Steve."

HUGHES WANTS WEMBLEY DATE FOR FANS

Leeds midfielder Andrew Hughes has urged his team-mates to reward the club's long-suffering fans with a trip to Wembley this season.
Hughes will be part of the United side who take on Carlisle at Elland Road tonight in the first leg of the League One play-off semi-final.
The game looks set to be a sell-out after a crowd of over 38,000 watched the final league game of the campaign against Gillingham.
And Hughes admits that backing such as that could play a key role in deciding the outcome.
"It takes your breath away when it is like that," said Hughes.
"I was honoured to be on the pitch in front of those fans (against Gillingham), but that is Leeds United football club.
"There's no experience like that. I've been at different clubs and experienced different fans, but you can't find the words to describe what it was like against Gillingham.
"We need to do them proud now and do it for ourselves."
Hughes knows Leeds' supporters have had little to cheer in recent seasons.
The club spiralled into decline when they were relegated from the Barclays English Premier League and last year they dropped down again to League One.
Worse followed when they were deducted 15 points prior to the start of the season following the manner in which they came out of administration.
The row over that penalty raged until the decision was recently upheld at an appeal.
That is now behind them, however, and Hughes is merely focusing on the challenge ahead against the Cumbrians, and a possible place in the play-off final at Wembley.
"They have a fantastic home record and we have got to go there and try and get a result," he added.
"But what an atmosphere it is going to be here first. It should be awesome."
Leeds head into the game with boss Gary McAllister confident that top-scorer Jermaine Beckford will be fit to be involved.
The striker has been sidelined with an ankle injury recently but is back in training.
Carlisle must pick themselves up for the trip to Yorkshire after throwing away a golden opportunity to win automatic promotion in the final weeks of the season.
A month ago John Ward's men were second and looked a decent bet to avoid the play-off lottery but a dismal run of just two points from their last five games condemned them to fourth place.
However, Ward insists his side will not be overawed by the Eland Road crowd.
He said: "We've very much got the picture of Elland Road - Leeds United, the history of the club and the dressing rooms - so everything will be reasonably familiar to us.
"Elland Road was practically full when we went there last month and scored two goals against them, so we know we're capable of doing that."

Ward goes on attack to restore Carlisle's momentum

The Carlisle United manager John Ward has warned Leeds his side will not be coming to Elland Road to defend in the first leg of their League One play-off semi-final today.

Gary McAllister reviving the club who lost that loving feeling
Manager working to ensure that everyone is marching on together at Elland Road
From Duncan McKenzie, the former player, hurdling a pitchside Mini Cooper to Peter Ridsdale’s attempts to underpin his title assault by renting goldfish, Elland Road has been home to plenty of ambitious plans. Perhaps the boldest of all, however, is Gary McAllister’s desire to make Leeds United loved.
The widespread jubilation that greeted the descent of Leeds into administration and this month’s failed appeal against a 15-point penalty, was no surprise. Few clubs are as reviled as the one who imploded and then looked less like a sleeping giant than a comatose dwarf. But now they are on the way back, lining up against Carlisle United in the first leg of the Coca-Cola League One play-offs tonight and McAllister is hoping to kick-start a revival and a love-in.

Bradley set for different role for Leeds
Bradley Johnson could be pressed into action as left-back for Leeds United in their big play-off semi-final first leg clash with Carlisle.
The former Northampton Town midfielder, who switched to Elland Road during the January transfer window, is lined up for the left-back slot because the regular for that position, Alan Sheehan, is suspended.

Let's give the fans something to cheer
Kevin Blackwell was responsible for describing Elland Road as "one of football's cathedrals", but it is one of his successors who will attempt to answer the prayers of the Football League's most faithful congregation tonight.
Stretched at the seams by a crowd of 38,256 nine days ago, Leeds United's stadium will be besieged again this evening by the loyalty and faith which led Blackwell to draw comparisons with a church.
Two years ago, he fell narrowly short of the crowADVERTISEMENTd's expectations.
Tonight, Gary McAllister will seek safe passage over the first of three obstacles which stand between him, his club and the city they represent and the outcome which ultimately eluded Blackwell.

It means little time for recovery for both sides but McAllister said: "The quick turn-around is not a problem. We have a nice mix of experience and young legs who are bursting to go. They are good athletes.
