Bring Them On!- Can Hartlepool Really Beat Leeds?

Fans will make the short trek to Leeds United this Tuesday night in a mixed bag of excitement and nerves.
The general consensus surrounding fans is that everyone hates Leeds and Ken Bates. Bates is a 'crook' and how Leeds managed to spend mega money despite being in administration is beyond many humans.
Hartlepool have started brightly in certain times this season, certainly not away from home. Leeds have started in the fashion their big squad should warrant and may crush Hartlepool if the away side aren't ready.
Hartlepool lost 2-0 at Elland Road last season despite pushing hard. If Pools push this time, we must finish the chances because we might not get many and as displayed last time, Beckford won't mess about.
Ritchie Humphreys and Danny Wilson believe Pools can enjoy a good cup run and that Leeds 'should not be feared'
Are they right?!
Leeds have a squad full of talent and skill, the best in league 1 by a country mile.
Can Hartlepool really challenge Leeds?

Monkhouse looking to shoot down Leeds

ANDY MONKHOUSE may have grown up in Leeds but there will be no divided loyalties when the Hartlepool winger plays tonight at Elland Road.
Monkhouse, who spent eight years at Rotherham United, is looking to shoot down his home-town club and book Hartlepool a fourth-round ticket for the first time in 33 years.
"Elland Road is a difficult place to go, but can we win? Why not?" he said.ADVERTISEMENT"I'll take a bad performance and a win, to be honest."
Hartlepool, who are four points behind Leeds in the League One promotion race, shocked Premier League side West Bromwich Albion in the second round after breezing past Scunthorpe United in round one.
Leeds have scored nine goals in victories over Chester and Crystal Palace to reach this stage and manager Gary McAllister is looking to extend the run of five wins in the last six games.
"We're certainly moving forward and I can see a lot of difference between when I arrived and what I have seen in recent games," he said. "The challenge now is to maintain that level of performance."

Last six games: Leeds WDWWWW, Hartlepool WWLLWD.
Last time: Leeds 2 Hartlepool 0; September 8, 2007; League One.
Referee: A Penn (West Midlands).

Spotlight on Hartlepool United

YEP chief football writer Phil Hay takes a close look at Leeds United's Carling Cup opponents tonight - Hartlepool United.

The Gaffer
Danny Wilson. The former Sheffield Wednesday and Barnsley boss is into his third season as Hartlepool manager and is charged with improving on the 15th-placed finish achieved in May.
Pools won automatic promotion from League Two at the end of his first campaign, claiming second place behind Walsall, but they slipped into the bottom half of League One last term and were only six points above the bottom four on the last day of the season.
Wilson is a hugely experienced coach, however. He has more than 700 matches under his belt after 14 years of almost continuous employment as a Football League boss.
He is one of the few active coaches who can claim to have managed in all four of England's professional divisions.

The Danger
James Brown. A player who shone at Elland Road for Hartlepool last year, and the 22-year-old striker has made a healthy contribution to the first month of this season.
He scored twice to help secure a 4-2 win against Colchester on the opening day, and followed it up with a late strike as Hartlepool beat Scunthorpe United in the first round of the Carling Cup.
A run of six matches without a goal followed but Brown hit the net again in a 4-1 rout of Cheltenham and he is aiming to improve on his tally of 12 goals last season. Reports from the north east suggest Brown is a player with enough talent to play at a level above League One.

The Form
Hartlepool have been solid and full of goals at Victoria Park but their form on their travels has room for improvement.
Wilson's side collected a very good win at Peterborough last month but they have lost their other two away matches against Millwall and Tranmere after failing to find the net.
The task for Wilson is to eliminate the inconsistency which has seen losses on the road interspersed with convincing wins over Colchester and Cheltenham, but he saw his players restrict League One leaders Oldham to a 3-3 draw at Victoria Park on Saturday, and they are holding on to the tails of the clubs attempting to break clear at the top of the division.
A win tonight would be their first ever victory at Elland Road.

The Odds
Gary McAllister will make a glut of changes but that hasn't stopped William Hill from making Leeds 6-10 favourites to progress inside 90 minutes.
Hartlepool are way out at 19-5, and a draw in normal time is 12-5.

The Whistler
Andy Penn. This is only the second time in seven seasons as a Football League referee that Penn has been chosen to officiate Leeds.
His last appointment came in the Carling Cup when United beat Macclesfield 1-0 in the first round last season.
Penn produced his yellow card once that night and the West Midlands official has averaged just over a caution a match this season.

Winning all that counts for Wilson

CARLING Cup progress and not the prospect of a prestige tie is the motivation for Danny Wilson as he takes his Hartlepool team to Elland Road to meet Leeds United tonight.
Pool were involved in a six-goal thriller against League One leaders Oldham Athletic on Saturday, showing tremendous character to reel in their in-form opponents after they took a two-goal lead.
Wilson believes that 3-3 draw has provided a huge confidence boost ahead of a difficult third round tie against a Leeds team that are moving ominously into form. Gary McAllister’s team looked assured and in control as they beat Carlisle United 2-0 at Brunton Park, and will provide a stern examination for a Pool side looking to progress into the last 16.
“Leeds look very strong this year. The size of the squad that they’ve got means they can rotate things for the game and still put out a very good team so we’ve got a tough tie on our hands,” Wilson admitted.
“But the lads’ confidence is certainly high after the performance and the result on Saturday. I was delighted with the way that we fought back and it does illustrate that we’re as good as anybody in the division on our day.
“It’s an important tie for us but I’m not looking to get into the next round to draw a big club and enjoy a day out. I want to get through and draw a team that we’ve got a realistic chance of progressing against. I want to get as far as possible in the competition.
“Sure, the money helps if we can get a home draw but it’s about getting into the next round as far as I’m concerned. And we’ve got a very tough hurdle to get over with Leeds as our opponents.”
Unlike his Leeds counterpart, Wilson has little choice but to stick with the same team and squad that have barely had time to draw breath since the exhilarating draw against Oldham on Saturday.
That means two games in three days for his players â€" but the Pool manager believes they will be able to handle it.
“The games will take care of themselves. They are big games for us and the lads won't need any getting up for them,” he said.
“I was very happy with some of the football we played on Saturday. When we went in at 2-0 down I did think ‘How are we going to get back into this?’ but the lads responded superbly and we played some great stuff.
“If we match those kind of levels then I think we’ll be able to challenge Leeds.”
Meanwhile, Wilson has ruled out the prospect of bringing in new recruits on loan unless injuries force his hand. Coventry striker Kevin Kyle was considered but financial constraints ruled out that move.
“To be honest, at this stage we’re not going to do anything until we’re pushed into it,” he said.

Sannsynlig lag (4-4-2): Lucas - Richardson, Marques, Huntington, White - Snodgrass, Prutton, Howson, Robinson - Becchio, Showunmi.

               ankergren
     fraze, Lubo, Hunty, White
Robinson, Prutts, Howson, Johnson
        Snoddy, Showunmi

Håpar Johnson får tillit frå start i kveld.

Tell me - Tell me before I go
Does that flame still burn, does that fire still glow
Or has it died out and melted like the snow
