Prior to joining GFH Capital, board member Salem Patel was an executive director at GFH in Bahrain, while Hisham Alrayes obtained a Bachelor's degree with honours in electrical engineering from Bahrain University before embarking on a distinguished banking career.
Mr Alrayes' other roles include the chief investment office position at GFH in Bahrain, chairmanships at Bahrain's Cemena Holding Company and Gulf Holding Company, as well as board memberships in companies including Bahrain Aluminum Extrusion Company and Naseej Development Co.
A Bahraini source close to the takeover said Leeds United was an attractive proposition due to the absence of any club debt.
"This deal is a great one," they told the GDN. "It is a great investment as this is one of the six most popular teams in the country (the UK).
"As it is now, the football club has no debt. The only thing that they owe is for a lease, but that is not a big deal.
"Last year I believe that the club made £4 million to £5m and as a brand name they are almost at the same level as Premier League teams.
"If they do get into the Premier League, it will make the investment that much better."
Reports suggest an offer of around £50m (BD30.975m) had been made by GFH Capital for the club and current chairman Ken Bates has said negotiations are in the "advanced stages". "GFH Capital are doing the deal, but it is basically a Bahraini-owned company," added the source. ahmed@gdn.com.bh
