Robbie Keane was on target for Republic of Ireland in their 2-1 win in Kazakhstan. Ireland looked to be heading for a defeat until Keane levelled on 89 minutes from the penalty spot. They still had time to find a winner in stoppage time.
Moving into the Football League, we start at Gigg Lane, where former Leeds trainee Shane Cansdell-Sheriff scored what was to prove the winner for Preston in their 2-1 win at Bury.
Danny Cadamarteri scored for Carlisle United in their 2-1 win at Hartlepool United.
It was a mixed day for two former Leeds players in the game at Glanford Park, between Scunthorpe United and Sheffield United.
Mike Doyle who spent a season on loan at Elland Road in Leeds promotion season of 2009/10 was sent off for the blades inside 15 minutes. Trailing 1-0 their chances in the game were made even worse when they were reduced to nine men with eighteen minutes remaining but former defender Neil Collins headed a late leveller for Sheffield United.
In League Two there was just one former player on target. Sam Hird who came through the academy at Elland Road but never made a senior appearance, scored the opener for Chesterfield in their 2-2 draw at York City.
