Noe riktig gjorde Doyle... L1 - team of the week

Marching on together!

Enig sånne #usynelige" spillere som Doyle er gull verdt, noe Grayson har forstått hurra!

Doyle hopeful of Irish breakthrough
Leeds United’s on-loan star Michael Doyle insists he has not lost hope that he can make the breakthrough to the Republic of Ireland senior squad.
Doyle, who joined the Elland Road side from Coventry City earlier this season, has just one senior cap to his credit, dating from a friendly win over Holland in 2004.
And the 28-year-old Dubliner hopes Leeds’ headline-grabbing FA Cup win over Manchester United last weekend can help him bridge the gap back to the international fold.
He said: “I suppose I’m a bit of a forgotten man playing in League One, they [the Irish managers] are not really going to look at that.
“But getting a Cup run might get some attention back on me. I definitely want to try and get back involved and I feel I should have more caps than I do. I’m not saying I should be playing but I definitely want to add to that cap.
“Hopefully I reminded a few people on Sunday that I can go out there, compete and do a job for the Ireland team ... I want to get back involved and get a proper chance, that’s all you want. I definitely want to get back in for the European qualifiers.”

Michael Doyle: No talks over Leeds United future
Jan 6 2010
Add a commentRecommend MICHAEL DOYLE has yet to start talks on making his season-long loan move to Elland Road permanent - but is hopeful of making the switch if Leeds win promotion.

The Irish midfielder has made no secret that he would like to become a Leeds United player as long as the League One club wants him.

But the tough-tackling star accepts that the Elland Road side would have to get promoted for the deal to be done.

He told the Yorkshire Evening Post: ""I don't expect to talk about it with the manager or anyone else until the season's over.

"I've always taken the same view â€" if we get promoted then I might get a deal. If we don't then I doubt that Leeds will want to keep me."

Doyle, currently on a year-long loan from Coventry City, was part of the successful team which knocked Manchester United out of the FA Cup at Old Trafford on Sunday.

He added: ""Whatever happens to me after this year, I'm going to cherish the memories of being here. It's been unforgettable. Playing in front of so many passionate fans is a complete privilege."

Leeds United: Struggle's been worthwhile for promotion - Doyle

Michael Doyle celebrates promotion. PIC: Varley Picture Agency

Date: 12 May 2010
By Phil Hay
For almost a decade, Michael Doyle has been in a state of detachment from the family in Dublin who waved him off for a career in football. Many have been the times when he asked himself if the sacrifice was worth it.

"I've been away from them all for the best part of 10 years," Doyle said. "I speak to my little boy on the phone every night and think 'am I doing the right thing? Have I done enough in my career to justify this?'

"I've given up friendships and a lot of family time for a career which, if I'm being totally honest, has been starved of success. When I say promotion means everything to me, I'm not joking."

Doyle's dearth of professional bling â€" no trophies and, before Saturday, no medals â€" was a constant niggle. He could not restrain himself from talking about it immediately after his transfer to Leeds United in August, admitting he was tired of free-wheeling towards a mid-table finish in the Championship year after year. In six seasons with Coventry City, it never got any better.

For that reason, his move to Leeds was a nine-month project with only one agreeable outcome: promotion or bust. His pride was evident when he left Elland Road last weekend with his demands met and his appetite satisfied.

"I don't see how playing for Leeds can be an honour if you fail with them," he said. "The club's ambition is so transparent and if the season had ended in bitter disappointment then I'd be going away feeling like a nobody.

"When I signed, it wasn't enough for to be able to say 'I've played for Leeds United'. I wanted to go home and say that I'd played a part in their success. It feels so good to make so many people happy. I always hated the idea of letting everyone down.

"From the start I made no secret of the fact that I wanted my move to Leeds to become permanent but I said as well that the club wouldn't want me if promotion got away from them. No way. Why would you be interested in a keeping a player who hasn't done the business for you? I'd have gone down as a failure, in my mind anyway.

"One of the frustrations in my head has always been the lack of success in my career. I've been starved off it. Don't get me wrong, I've played a lot of games for Coventry and seen a lot of Championship football but at the end of your days as a player you're going to look back on your achievements and the medals you won. This is a huge moment for me and a feeling of sheer relief."

Whether or not his career with Leeds has any more mileage in it, Doyle will take with him the pleasing thought that he was an essential cog in Simon Grayson's machine at Elland Road.

He played in 42 league games and all of United's FA Cup and Carling Cup matches. Grayson spared him to a large degree from the Johnstone's Paint Trophy, though, with the height of irony, Doyle was named as the competition's finest player in a number four shirt, the result of a public poll. He appeared in the Trophy only once.

The 28-year-old's manner as a footballer was unashamedly simplistic: combative, destructive and highly protective of a defence which conceded only 10 league goals before Christmas. Andrew Hughes, United's versatile defender, described Doyle as a "horrible player", a remark meant as a glowing compliment. "If you're going to get promoted, you need players like him," Hughes said.

Doyle discovered first hand the pressure that Leeds exist under and the drama they invoke. He was a credible candidate for the man-of-the-match award during the club's FA Cup win over Manchester at Old Trafford, a day which still creates a sense of disbelief, and he was riled by the sniping which Leeds experienced once their consistent form began to regress during the second half of the season.

The Republic of Ireland international, inset below, took particular exception to comments made by Gillingham midfielder Adam Miller after Leeds lost at Priestfield Stadium last month. Miller suggested that Grayson's squad lacked the nerve and composure needed to win automatic promotion from League One, a prize they claimed in frantic circumstances at Elland Road last weekend.

"I can't understand why people with nothing to do with this club are so worried about Leeds United," he said. "They'd be better off worrying about themselves.

"How can some clown at Gillingham who's fighting a relegation battle say that we haven't got the bottle? You've hardly won a game all season, mate. Fair enough, they had a good performance against us and they beat us down there but for God's sake, get a life.

"They've been relegated and he'll be playing in League Two next season.

He'll never even get the chance to play for Leeds United and find out what it's like here. Some of what was said, not just by him, was pretty out of order. When Millwall beat us at Elland Road, a few of them were shouting their mouths off in the tunnel and having a go. 'You've lost your nerve' and that sort of thing. It's easy to say then, but it's a different story now.

"We're the second best team in the league and we went up because none of the teams below us matched our points tally. Nobody else did what we did before Christmas."

Doyle is still under contract at Coventry and the recent sacking of their former manager, Chris Coleman, might draw him back into the fold at the Ricoh Arena.

Doyle was surprised to see Coleman release him to Leeds last summer and took the view that his career with Coventry was almost certainly at an end. If Leeds make successful moves to sign him in the coming weeks then it may be regardless.

"It's up to Leeds to do what they think's best but they know where I stand," he said. "I want to stay.

"The club's phenomenal. There are Leeds fans everywhere and hundreds of them in Ireland. My mum and dad are forever getting knocks on their door. No disrespect but it wasn't like that when I was at Coventry. I've never achieved anything like this in senior football and I'll treasure it for a long time.

"When I first spoke to the manager he was very confident and set in his ways. He didn't speak about anything other than winning promotion automatically. It was nice coming to a club where the ambition was so obvious.

"I think what he really wanted was to win the league and we put ourselves in a position to easily do that.

"Unfortunately we ran out of steam a bit but in the end we've gone up in front of a crowd of 40,000 with only 10 men on the last day of the season. It doesn't get much better, does it?"
