UNBEATEN YOUNGSTERS SEE OFF CELTIC

United make impression in Dubai...
United in Dubai

The Leeds United representative team in Dubai made a big impression on the opening day of our involvement in the Emirates Airlines Dubai Sevens on Friday.

The day started with a 1-1 draw against AC Milan before Glasgow Celtic were beaten 4-1 in the second group game.

The final game of the day produced a 1-1 draw with Danish side Brondby and the young United side have progressed through to the KO stages of the tournament after finishing top of the group.

Academy manager Neil Thompson, under-18s coach Neil Redfearn, and technical director Gwyn Williams, have travelled with the party, and Thompson says the trip so-far has been both productive and enjoyable.

"It's been great so far," said Neil.
"The facilities here are terrific and we trained a couple of times before Friday in very hot conditions.
"The standard is good and after drawing with Milan this morning we played really well against Celtic in the afternoon.
"It was the hottest part of the day - 33 degrees - but the boys did well and we've done well so far."

Meget gode nyheter denne ettermiddagen i fra Dubai:

Results for the Youth team yesterday:
AC Milan 1 Leeds Utd 1,
Celtic 1 Leeds Utd 4,
Brondby 1 Leeds Utd 1.

Leeds Utd finish top of the table and play Blackburn at 1019am today. Some good players coming through the ranks, the youth team looks strong and is held together in midfield by slim looking Andy Robinson, yep I know Andy Robinson youth! But the tournament organizers apparently didn’t state an age.

Lørdag:
Kvartfinale:
PROFESSIONAL Blackburn (4th Pool A) v  Leeds (1st Pool B)  0-1 (Darville)  :)

Semifinale:
PROFESSIONAL Leeds v Arsenal 1-0 (Hatfield)   ;D
Leeds are in the final, beat Arsenal 1-0 in semi - Will Hatfield with goal (according to his facebook)

Arsenal Reserves lose out to Leeds in Dubai semi-final

Arsenal Reserves’ hopes of winning the Dubai Soccer Sevens tournament came to an end this morning as Neil Banfield’s side lost out to Leeds United in the semi-finals.

The Gunners remained unbeaten throughout the pool stage, beating Feyenoord 2-1 in their opening game thanks to goals from strike duo Luke Freeman and Rhys Murphy, before a rare Thomas Cruise strike helped Arsenal gain a point in the 1-1 draw with Blackburn.

A goalless draw with Olympiacos in the final group game proved sufficient for Arsenal to progress to the semi-finals where they met Danish side Brondby. Banfield’s side ran out comfortable winners, with goals from Emmanuel Frimpong and Conor Henderson contributing to a 2-0 scoreline. However, they were edged out by Leeds in the semi-final, suffering a 1-o reverse at the hands of the Yorkshire outfit.

Banfield’s side will now return to London and face Wolves at Underhill in the Reserve League

Var det ikke sånn at vi ville ha en reserve eller to fra Arsnal for å heve kvaliteten på førstelaget vårt?  ;D
