KB: Well, dealing with Rack-ub-cha, he had played over 200 games for Blackpool’s first team and of course, Simon signed him so he knows him, so he’s very confident having got him here. Other transfers; it’s a bit like buses. None come along, then two or three come along at once. All around the country, the players are now reporting back to training and the agents have had their holiday so perhaps we can start getting some bits of stuff done. It’s really difficult to do business when players are not around because we insist on meeting the players before we agree to sign them. After all the agent isn’t going to pull on the No5 shirt on August 6, so we need to meet the player and get a feeling of his attitude and get a look at his fitness etc etc. So that’s really why we have not made any apparent signings so far. Another thing is a lot of clubs can’t decide what to do with some of their players and of course there is the pressure of the Premiership. If you can go to a Premiership club, you’re not going to go… it’s very rare that you’ll go to a Championship club. So we have been patient. There are two or three players that have slipped through our fingers but, again, they’ve gone to Premiership clubs, which we can’t really complain about. I can assure all the fans, there’s an awful lot of work going on behind the scenes.
I scored 24 goals helping my side win promotion back to the Premier League aged just 22. Then in my first season in the top flight I had bagged an impressive 15 goals by the end of January. My form earned me an England call-up. Am I a £35m striker? No. I am Michael Ricketts, February 2002.

Twelve months on and it’s a case of deja vu. Leeds United began pre-season training this morning and it was noticeable how short we are, just over one month away from the start of the season.

Last summer, I was like a broken record harping on about the squad’s flimsy spine and how we needed to assemble the squad quicker. In the end, we went into the season with no recognised defensive midfielder and the lack of quality at the back was brutally exposed during the opening months.

The only real activity this summer has been players leaving the club. Bradley Johnson and Neil Kilkenny exercised their right to leave on a free, Richard Naylor and Shane Higgs were shown the door, others returned to their parent clubs and Kasper Schmeichel paid the price for being a part of one of the worst defences in the Championship. Plenty going out, not a lot coming in.

We were short in central midfield even before we lost two regulars in that position and the defence needed a major overhaul this summer. All Simon Grayson has to show for his endeavours so far is a reserve goalkeeper, Paul Rachubka. It’s like January all over again.

This transfer window is following a worrying pattern. Our prize assets are being linked with big money transfers away from the club, whilst Grayson slowly scours the market for bargains.

It’s OK saying there is plenty of time until the season starts but just look at January, we waited and waited and nothing happened. The lack of activity in January ultimately cost us a place in the play-offs, which should have been the minimum requirement at the turn of the year.

Grayson has a hell of a lot of work to do over the coming weeks. He needs to plug the gaps left by the departed players and shore up one of the league’s worst defences.

Of equal importance is tying Max Gradel, who has been linked with a move away from the club, down to a long-term contract. It’s absurd that they haven’t done it already. Gradel was our best player last season â€" both in terms of quality and attitude on the pitch. Losing Gradel would be the last straw for a lot of fans.

I will quite happily eat my words if Grayson (Uncle mun ) proves me wrong in the coming weeks. All we want to see as fans is some ambition and a signal of intent. Something to inspire confidence as we head into what will be an extremely tough season. At the moment it’s all talk and no action.

Date of Birth:    04/11/1984
Height:   6' 0" (183cm)
Weight:   12st 8lbs (79.9kg)

Clubs:   Preston (loan), Man Utd (loan), Derby County, Man Utd, NEC (loan)
Position:    Midfielder

QuoteAn England under 21 international, David Jones joined Wolves for an undisclosed fee from Derby County in June 2008 on a three year contract.

The Southport-born midfielder began his career right at the top, coming through the Manchester United Academy and indeed captaining the Reds' youth team which won the 2003 FA Youth Cup in the same team as current Molineux striking hero Sylvan Ebanks-Blake.

Jones made four senior appearances at Old Trafford, but it was in a loan spell with Preston during the 2005/06 season that he really made his name, scoring three goals from 25 appearances as his style and assurance caught the eye.

When his loan spell with North End expired, he then furthered his footballing education with a five-month loan with Dutch side NEC Nijmegen.

He then joined Derby on loan in November, 2006, before making the move permanent two months later.

Jones made his Wolves debut on the opening day of the 2008/09 season at Plymouth and scored his first goal in the 5-1 win over Nottingham Forest on August 30.

Having lost his place in the team in early 2009, he came back in at a crucial time to help nudge Wolves towards the finishing post and ended up with a total of 37 appearances in all competitions and four goals.

The midfielder suffered several injury problems at the start of the 2009/10 campaign but notched his first goal of the season in the FA Cup draw with Crystal Palace in January, 2010.

And from there he went on to play a key role in the second half of the season, pulling the strings in midfield.

In total he made 23 appearances during the season, and scored one of the best goals seen at Molineux in recent years by finishing off an excellent team move for the winner against Tottenham.

"Onyewu signed a three-year contract with Milan on July 7, 2009.[9][10] He made his Milan debut on July 22, coming on as a substitute for Alessandro Nesta in a loss to Club América in the World Football Challenge.[11] He made his competitive debut on September 30, again relieving Nesta in a Champions League loss to Zürich at San Siro.[12] Onyewu missed all the 2009â€"10 season â€" appearing in only one Champions League match â€" due a knee injury suffered while on national team duty. At the end of the season, on May 17, 2010, it was announced that Onyewu's contract with Milan was extended by one season, keeping him under contract with the club through the end of the 2012â€"13 season; upon Onyewu's request, the one-year extension includes no salary."
