Utdrag:
QuoteAnd in the weeks since, United’s leading scorer from last season Ross McCormack has rejected the offer of a new contract. But, most damaging of all, new club captain Robert Snodgrass, second in the scoring charts and top of the club’s assists league, has again questioned their ambition.

The 24-year-old did the same when Howson was shipped out, after the Leeds-born man stalled over a new deal, but on Wednesday Snodgrass made it clear how pivotal to his future it was to see quality, new signings through the door by the start of next month.

“I said that I wanted to take a few weeks away from everything, not make any decisions and we will start speaking in June,” said the Scot, who has also been offered a new contract and, like McCormack, is entering the final year of his existing one.

“But I am living in the real world. If things change in terms of bringing players in and getting Premier League class and kicking-on, then it’s a no-brainer. You sign the contract and move on.

“The chairman is trying to put a bit of pressure on me. He’s telling me what plans he has got for the club. But they told me the same type of plans the season before and it didn’t work out. So it’s hard to buy into these things again.”

Meanwhile, another local lad, Aidy White, is yet to agree the latest contract offer and looks set to head â€" like Jermaine Beckford, Bradley Johnson and Neil Kilkenny before him â€" for pastures new.

Anyone else getting twitchy yet?

Warnock must be. He wants a revamped squad in place as soon as possible to give him the best chance of a fast start come August.

Little wonder, then, there have been at least two major, albeit Twitter-inspired, rumours suggesting the 63-year-old has quit a post he only took up in February (...) The last thing United fans need now is to see Warnock decide he’s had enough and turn those premature tweets into reality.

I scored 24 goals helping my side win promotion back to the Premier League aged just 22. Then in my first season in the top flight I had bagged an impressive 15 goals by the end of January. My form earned me an England call-up. Am I a £35m striker? No. I am Michael Ricketts, February 2002.

YEP i dag:

QuoteNeil Warnock will take his last holiday of the summer this week, crossing his fingers that developments in his absence throw open the floodgates at Leeds United.

Warnock is planning a short break after a reassuring run of success in the transfer market but he has reiterated the need for a greater flurry of activity before Leeds begin pre-season training on July 11.

The United manager returned to West Yorkshire last Monday to nail down deals with Norwich City left-back Adam Drury and Derby County midfielder Paul Green, both of whom will sign on Bosman free transfers in six days’ time.

Warnock was anxious to finalise those moves with Drury and Green close to the end of their existing contracts, but the success of this summer now rests heavily on circumstances beyond his control at Elland Road.

Leeds are in the thick of discussions aimed at securing major investment â€" investment which could ultimately lead to a buy-out of the Championship club â€" and Warnock’s transfer plans seem intrinsically linked to United’s efforts to guarantee an injection of cash.

Drury and Green were long-standing targets of Warnock’s but their status as free agents made the signings more attainable, despite the delay which prevented Warnock from striking an agreement with Green a month ago. The deals took the tally of new arrivals at Leeds to three, on top of the signing of centre-back Jason Pearce from Portsmouth.

The majority of the other players on Warnock’s radar are expected to command transfer fees, however, and United’s ability to draw external funding into Elland Road is a critical factor in the 63-year-old’s wider strategy.

United are hovering over goalkeeper Paddy Kenny, waiting only for the necessary cash to push through a signing which will cost around £500,000.

Kenny has no future at Queens Park Rangers after the Premier League club signed England international Robert Green on a free transfer from West Ham United and the 34-year-old is believed to be ready to take up an offer from Leeds.

Warnock is also continuing to monitor Portsmouth pair David Norris and Luke Varney, knowing that relegated Pompey are willing to sell but have set a six-figure price-tag in both instances.

United’s interest in Norris in particular is well established but the club are not yet in a position to pay the necessary cash. The midfielder has attracted attention from elsewhere and is believed to have held talks with newly-promoted Sheffield Wednesday earlier this week.

Warnock has generally refused to comment on potential targets, though he admitted on Thursday that he would “never say never” about the possibility of bringing Kenny to Elland Road, but he is making no secret of the importance of filling many of the gaps in his squad before pre-season gets underway at Thorp Arch.

Warnock, who released and transfer-listed no fewer than 11 players after the end of the recent Championship season, said: “I want to make sure that as many signings as possible are here before we start up on July 11.

“I’d hoped to get a number of deals done quickly last month and it’s been more difficult than I thought it would be but really, it’s the first day of pre-season when you want or need most of your players on board. That’s when everything starts.

“We need to push on from here and in the week or 10 days leading up to July 11, I’ll be looking to get quite a number of deals done. I’m getting away for a short break but, to be honest, the hard work never stops. I couldn’t be working harder on all this.”

Green and Drury were both signed amid serious competition.

Canaries stalwart Drury said he had offers to move abroad while Green was courted by Huddersfield Town while competing in the European Championships with the Republic of Ireland.

But Green said: “I didn’t need any convincing. You only have to look at what he’s (Warnock) done with other clubs to get them to the Premiership.

“There were a few (interested clubs) in the pipeline but this is a massive club and they’re looking to get into the Premiership â€" which is what I’m looking to do.

“I’m from down the road in Pontefract and there’s a lot of Leeds supporters there.

“My fiancée is a Leeds fan so she’ll be happy. She gave me a little nudge. I’m sure there’ll be a few more requests for tickets.”

As investment talks continue at Elland Road, additional assistance for Warnock in the transfer market could come from bids for some of his existing players, including Adam Clayton and Ross McCormack.

Clayton was transfer-listed almost two months ago but despite expectations that Burnley will attempt to sign him the Lancashire club have yet to step up their efforts to bring the midfielder on board.

McCormack, meanwhile, has a year left on his contract at Leeds and finished last season as the club’s top scorer, but he recently rejected a contract extension and is a target for Huddersfield, managed by ex-Leeds boss Simon Grayson.

United also made Andy O’Brien, Paul Connolly, Ramon Nunez, Billy Paynter and Paul Rachubka available when Warnock announced his retained list on May 1, but all five players remain on the books at Elland Road.

Warnock said: “We’ve got quite a few players on the transfer list and I’m working to move them on. There’s two sides to the job at the moment.

“But it’s such a long summer and everything is moving quite slowly. You’ve got to be patient with players coming in and going out, but we still need to really get cracking.”

United’s existing squad are preparing to report back to Thorp Arch two weeks on Wednesday, nine days before their first pre-season friendly away to Farsley Celtic.

Long-term injury victims Patrick Kisnorbo and Davide Somma â€" currently recovering from serious knee operations â€" hope to be fit to complete a full summer and American winger Robbie Rogers is on course to rejoin United’s squad on schedule after an ankle operation.

Rogers recently spent time training with LA Galaxy in an attempt to raise his fitness levels.

Leeds’ friendly at Farsley on July 20 will be followed by a three-match tour of Devon and Cornwall, taking in matches against Tavistock, Bodmin Town and Torquay United.

Further friendlies against Sandefjord, Preston North End and Burton Albion are also planned before United begin their season with a Carling Cup first-round tie at home to Shrewsbury Town on August 11 â€" seven days before their first Championship match against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Ikke umulig det, men litt rart at det er såpass rift rundt en mann som slutter som manager til våren.
