................................................................................................
Kenny - 8 - Few point savings stops.
Peltier - 7 - One of his better games, drove forward a bit more and looked better for it.
Lees - 7 - quietly went about his shit, really good calm head.
Pearce - 8 - Very clever defender, upset Davies early on and threw his weight about cleanly.
Byram - 6 - Quiet at full back, mopped up here and there, no issues.
Tonge - 7.5 - Our best player first half, picks a pass out very well and is willing to work.
Brown - 6.5 - couple of decent challenges. Will not run.
Austin - 7 - Got himself about as per and linked up well with EHD and MT.
White - 5.5 - Gave the ball away very cheaply 3 times in the first half. Drove forward positively at times.
Diouf - 8 - Didn't have his best head on today but still put in a decent game and did what he does very well. Constant threat.
Becchio - 8 - Tireless performance. Hero.
Norris - 6 - Bit rusty, fair dos.
Gray - Looked switched on and integrated well into the side.
The ref was a prick to both teams, lost his shit early on.

Don't really think anyone stood out today for M.O.M
I thought Brown did well and went about his job really well, did what was needed!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Think you're being generous to most here, we were pretty poor today and I thought Austin in particular looked f**ked. Brown and Peltier had good games. Switch to 3-5-2 made us much more solid.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Kenny 8 - MOTM. 1 bloody good save and a few other decent ones.
Byram 5 - Looked shocking when we were playing 4-4-2. A little better when we switched to 5-3-2 but was still very quiet.
Lees 7 - Made some good challenges and sealt with Barnsley's strikers well.
Pearce 7 - Same as Lees.
Peltier 7 - Extra mark for the run that won the penalty. Looked a lot better as a third centre back than at left back.
White 7 - Our best outlet in the second half. A few decent runs. Got the better of the right back a couple of times.
Tonge 4 - Didn't get on the ball enough or get forward or do enough defensively.
Austin 5 - His worst home game for us by far.
Brown 4 - Waste of space really like the rest of our midfield. Not enough defensively or with the ball.
Diouf 6 - Didn't really get much of the ball in the attacking third but had his usual quality.
Becchio 7 - Did a lot of running and put in a lot of work. Very cool penalty.
Norris 6 - Our best central midfielder when he came on but doesn't say a lot.
Gray 6 - Fresh legs to harry the Barnsley defence.
Edit. Don't agree with the OP about the ref. Despite the moans of the kop he had a good game apart from towards the end. We were giving away a lot fo fouls due to being second best and not being able to get hold of the ball

I thought Brown was our best outfield player today..

QUOTE (Marching. On. Together. @ Oct 6 2012, 06:55 PM)
He probably was, certainly better than Austin but some players get higher marks easier than others on here..
Brown played well for him. Austin didn't play well for his standards. He was still better. Michael Brown cannot get above a light jog.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
tbf Austin did ok with the ball, his early booking f**ked his defensive game though
...
From where I was sat Brown made numerous good tackles, and kept the ball very well. Thought he was much better than both Tongue and Austin - Each the their own though.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Byram below par today
White is good driving forward but gave the ball away needlessly today
Austin looked tired
Tonge better than Brown and looks composed on the ball, but both of them lack mobility, as demonstrated when Norris came on and got amongst them
EHD again had a much better 2nd half than first
Overall again like Bolton we looked suspect when the ball knocked into our box, Its a great win against a bogey side but they missed three absolute sitters, still 3 points to the whites, get Bates out, spend a bit of brass on quality right winger, CM and a centre forward... hello premiership
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Brown despite not being able to "get above a light jog" pressed and tackled far more than any other player on the pitch. Rarely gave it away and was intelligent in his positional play, did a lot of talking. Austin on the other hand was lethargic and made very few successful tackles.
...
Some of the guys need a rest. Brown has been playing too many games in too short a time for a guy his age, while Austin already had more than half a season behind him when he joined us. Tonge too hasn't had that much competitive football and suddenly he's played a lot of games in a short time. We need to be able to give midfield players a break now and again and switch things around. Hopefully Green and Norris will be fully fit soon and Warnock will be able to do just that.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Brown was different class today.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Our midfield was shocking today and they had the better of us because of it.
...
Kenny - 8 - Made some great saves, kept a clean sheet. What more do you want?
Byram - 6 - Probably only because I've come to expect so much from him. Looked a bit shaky in the first half.
Lees - 8 - Solid. Didn't panic, for a change.
Pearce - 8 - He's been so consistent, but narrowly above his average today.
Peltier - 7 - Didn't make any major mistakes and won the penalty. Not great on the ball and still out of position.
White - 6 - Didn't seem overly confident today, which caused him to give the ball away more than usual.
Austin - 6 - Gets to push forward more with Brown alongside and again helping out in wide positions. Good enough today.
Brown - 7 - Much better when he hasn't got the ball, but today he played simple passes once he'd done his job.
Tonge - 6 - I've been impressed with him so far, very good passer. Bit quiet today, but didn't shirk his responsibilities.
Diouf - 8 - f**king great, isn't he? Quietly ran the game. You can tell the opposition is scared of him.
Becchio - 8 - Worked like a dog, won a lot of headers. Two years ago he couldn't hit the South Stand with a penalty, let alone the back of the net. Now he's 3/3 this season. One to the right, one to the left and one chipped straight down the middle. Cheekey bugger.
Gray - 7 - We never really got the mercurial winger of his youth, but he's been a solid pro for years now. Good signing, in the circumstances.
Norris - 7 - Looked very keen. Unnerved Barnsley with his bursting runs and aggression.
...
Common theme seems to be that Byram was quiet/shaky at full back while we had little attacking threat.
Wasn't there so this may be a bit simplistic but..........BYRAM SHOULD NOT BE WASTED AT FULLBACK WHEN ANY CUNT CAN PLAY THERE.....He may be able to do a job there but he aint a full back.
We played 3-5-2 after the first 15 minutes, White was able to get at them on the other side going forward although lacked end product so I'd put it down to just a poor game from Byram.
...
"BYRAM SHOULD NOT BE WASTED AT FULLBACK WHEN ANY CUNT CAN PLAY THERE....."
Having watched Crowe, Connolly and Peltier all demonstrate that the above is not true, I'd have to disagree.

Either Barnsley were better than I expected or we made them look good. They dominated the game for the first 20 minutes and had a hatful of chances – they could easily have scored 4 goals.
Kenny - 8 – A great performance. Made some excellent saves that got us the 3 points.
Peltier - 7 – Steady without being spectacular.
Lees – 5 – Under pressure several times; not sure if he’s still developing or whether he’s out of his depth.
Pearce - 7 – Competent performance.
Byram - 5 – Like Lees, he’s young and developing but he was unimpressive today.
In terms of the defence, they still look far too vulnerable; against a better side we could easily have conceded several goals today.
Tonge - 7 – A strong performance. I'd like to have seen him perform the full 90 minutes
Brown - 5 – Gets a card every match and seems to go looking for trouble. His aggression exceeds his ability. When he gets the ball he doesn’t know whether to go forward or pass the ball backwards and he normally chooses the latter.
Austin - 7 – A good all round performance and was safe defensively and threatening in attack.
White - 5 – Speed is his essence but his capability is not developing; gives the ball away far too often. I’m unconvinced that he’s the wide player we need.
Diouf - 6 – A quiet game by his standards and whilst he offered our main attacking threat, little came from most of his runs.
Becchio - 5 – Great penalty but he otherwise made little impact.
Norris - 7 - Very impressed with everything he did. It was a pity that he didn’t start – he’s a much better player than Brown . He was all over the pitch and his strength and commitment were excellent,
Gray 4 – Made little impact – I’m surprised a player of his calibre is on our bench. He seems to lack skill and commitment.
In terms of attack, we mustered very few shots on goal and I cannot remember us creating a single clear cut chance.

i'm not brown's biggest fan but he looked to be getting stronger as the game went on. he was putting himself about well in the second half. agree about austin though, like the bolton game he looked well off the pace today.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Brown did OK today, but he "rested" even though on the pitch last time out. We can't really afford to do that. If we want more performances like today he needs to be rested every so often. Austin's looking jaded - he had to do a lot of work in the early season games after coming straight from from the Norwegian league. He could do with a game or two on the bench, or putting his feet up during the International break, but he won't get that as they have two games against Guatemala and Antigua and Barbuda, so he's going to be shattered when he gets back.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I think some people are basing their Brown ratings on preconceived prejudices (he was shit last season) rather than his actual performance on the pitch. No way was he only a 4 or 5 today!
I thought he was decent the second half of last season.
Today I honestly do think he was a 4 or a 5. The team were not at the races today and the midfield was the worst part of it imo.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
This Austin, Brown Tonge were knackered and could nt cope with the mobile barnsley midfield
