LUFC Leeds Transfer Rumours - Week One
Here we go again, another summer and another three months of Leeds United rumours in the transfer market.
Vital Leeds will once again be keeping you up to date during the summer with all the realistic, possible and downright ridiculous rumours.
With Brian McDermott arriving from Reading, we will be linked with a number of his former players and that has been the case in the first week.
Striker Adam Le Fondre, from his former club Reading is the main name that continues to be linked with a move to Elland Road.
Le Fondre has scored 13 goals this season despite being mainly used as a substitute.
Leeds have also been linked with two of his former defenders at Reading. Zurab Khizanishvili (now at Turkish side Kayserispor) and Matt Mills (Bolton Wanderers) have been linked.
Khizanishvili, a 31-year-old Georgian international had two separate loan spells with McDermott at Reading and he is still a regular for his national side.
Mills was McDermott`s captain during his time at the Madejski. Mills captained Reading to the play-off final at Wembley against Swansea City in 2011 before leaving to join Leicester City. He fell out with manager Nigel Pearson at Leicester before joining Bolton last summer despite being linked with Leeds.
He signed a three-year deal at the Reebok. He was a regular in the side before injury forced him to miss four months. He made just 18 appearances for Bolton with only one of those coming following his injury in December.
Strikers Kevin Doyle (Wolverhampton Wanderers) and Noel Hunt (still at Reading) are also being linked with a move to Elland Road.
Doyle scored 11 times this season for relegated Wolves and they could be looking to offload some of their players after relegation to League One.
The Republic of Ireland is in contract at Molineux until 2015.
Hunt has made 30 appearances so far for Reading this season as they were relegated from the Premier League. The Republic of Ireland international was linked with a move to Leeds during his time with Dundee United before signing for Reading in 2008. The 30-year-old has scored just six goals this season with only two of them coming in the Premier League.
Of those players without a Reading connection, there is one with an ex-Leeds connection. Former defender Matt Kilgallon (Sunderland) is out of contract at this summer and Leeds amongst clubs are being linked with a move.
The 29-year-old, who made almost 100 appearances for Leeds after coming through the clubs academy, has been beset by injuries in the past few seasons. He has made just 19 appearances in the past two seasons for the club.
Motherwell midfielder Chris Humphrey is a target for Leeds. The Jamaican international has made over 150 appearances for the Scottish Premier League side since joining them in 2009. The 25-year-old has made 39 appearances this season as Motherwell finished second to Celtic.
Leeds are also being linked with another player from the Scottish Premier League. 25-year-old striker Niall McGinn is currently at Aberdeen and he has scored 22 goals in 39 appearances this season.
The Northern Ireland international still has one-year remaining on his current deal at Pittordie after joining from Celtic last summer.
Burnley striker Martin Paterson is being linked with a move across the Pennines. The Northern Ireland international is out of contract at Turf Moor this summer. The 26-year-old scored 9 times for Burnley this season despite often being used in a wide position.
Bradford City striker Nahki Wells continues to be linked with Leeds. The 22-year-old has come to the national attention this season after helping Bradford reach the League Cup final.
Wells will be hoping to help Bradford win the League Two play-off final next weekend and add to the 25 goals he has already scored this season.
I am sure it will only be a matter of time before we are linked with Ian Harte again.
Going out of the door at Elland Road there is one player who will be continuously linked with a move away.
Player of the season Sam Byram has already been linked with a move to Manchester City, Liverpool, Everton and West Brom and in the last seven days, Arsenal are the latest club to be linked with the 19-year-old.
El Hadji Diouf was linked with a move to Guinean club AS Kaloum earlier this week, something the player quickly denied. Watch this space……
All the rumours that I put up have been in the national press, local press or websites such as Skysports.com, Clubcall.com, and Teamtalk.com amongst others and not from sites where people just put up their wish list and make out that they have inside knowledge through their best mate`s uncle`s brother.
If you see or read any links with Leeds United then please let us know on here or on the forum.
