LUFC Leeds v Burnley Team News

Leeds United boss Brian McDermott will be boosted by the return of defender Tom Lees for the game with Burnley on Tuesday night.

Lees has missed the last three games through suspension following his sending off at Ipswich Town.

McDermott could also be boosted by the return of fellow centre back Lee Peltier. The club captain failed a late fitness test on Saturday but he is hoping to have shaken off the ankle injury he picked up at Charlton Athletic in time for Tuesday.

The new Leeds boss may also decide to play Luke Varney up front after he scored twice after moving forward on Saturday. El Hadji Diouf could be pushing for a start after he impressed as a second half substitute on Saturday. Steve Morison is the likely candidate to drop out of the starting eleven.

Stephen Warnock filled in for Lees and Peltier in the centre of defence on Saturday but he could be struggling after picking up a knock on his ankle.

Michael Brown will serve the final game of his two-match suspension.

Leigh Bromby remains the only long-term absentee.

Burnley are expecting to have Alex Kacaniklic and Joseph Mills available again after they were forced to miss the weekend defeat at Blackpool with a virus.

Michael Duff is still sidelined with a long-term injury.

LUFC Leeds v Burnley - Over The Years

Vital Leeds looks at the head-to-head record against Burnley over the years at Elland Road.

The two sides have met on 27 occasions with Leeds winning 17, Burnley 5 and 5 draws.

There have been 87 goals scored in the 27 games with Leeds netting 57 and Burnley 30 at an average of 3.23 goals per game.

The first encounter between the two sides came during the 1924/25 season when Burnley won a First Division encounter 2-0.

Leeds had to wait until the fourth encounter between the two for their first win when they won 2-1 during the 1928/29 season.

Leeds biggest ever win came during the 1968/69 season when they won 6-1. Ironically, it was just two months after losing the reverse fixture 5-1 at Turf Moor.

Burnley enjoyed their biggest win at Elland Road during the 1973/74 season when they won 4-1. It was Leeds only home defeat of the season as they went on to be crowned champions of England.

Leeds have won on the last four occasions at Elland Road, with Burnley failing to score in three of them.

There had never been a goalless draw between the two sides. Leeds have only failed to score on two occasions, the last being in only the third encounter in 1927.

Burnley have failed to find the net on five occasions, with them all coming in their last eleven visits

This will be the third meeting between the two since Leeds returned to the championship in 2010.

Ross McCormack scored his first Leeds goal in a 1-0 win on the penultimate weekend of the season in 2010/11.

Last season, Leeds left it very late to come from behind and win. Burnley had Kieran Trippier sent off in the opening half hour but the ten men looked to be heading for three points when Charlie Austin fired them ahead with twenty minutes remaining.

The game changed with two minutes remaining. Brian Easton put through his own goal to put Leeds level and Ross McCormack had the easiest of tap-ins in the fourth minute of injury time to claim the three points for Leeds.

OptaStats:

Burnley have thrown away more points from leading positions this season than any other side in the Championship.

Only Leicester City (9) are on a longer run without a clean sheet in the Championship than Leeds United (8.)

Det gjør ingenting at Charlie Austin mangler i kveld.
