Hunt quits social media following Leeds United mauling

The former Reading striker has ‘backed away’ from Twitter after harsh criticism
Some players may be famous for their social media outpourings but one man that isn’t likely to be Tweeting, Facebooking or Redditing any time soon is Noel Hunt, after the Leeds United striker revealed he is taking a brake online activity.
The Elland Road club have had a season to forget so far, with Saturday’s 3-1 loss to Derby marking their fifth defeat of the season with just 11 games played this term.
One man who has come under particular scrutiny, aside from manager Brian McDermott, is Hunt who arrived at the Yorkshire club with a big reputation, having previously excelled in the Championship with Reading.
After his contract expired with the Berkshire club, the 30-year-old jumped at the opportunity to link up with his former manager, signing a two-year deal with Leeds United last summer.
But the Republic of Ireland international has yet to impress for the Whites, with no goals in the six appearances he has made thus far.
It’s this barren run that has prompted Hunt to ditch social media, following a series of brutal comments from fans and pundits alike questioning his performances for the club.
Speaking to the Yorkshire Evening Post, the forward explained his reasoning.
“I’ve backed away from social media because I can do without some of what I’m reading. I’m not telling people they shouldn’t have opinions but I’m my own worst critic. I judge myself harshly,†he said.
“What I can’t stand is the idea that I’m not trying or I don’t care. That’s nonsense, absolute nonsense. Ask any of the players here. Or better still, don’t bother asking them. Go straight to their wives or their partners.â€
Leeds fans will now be hoping that Hunt can return to the kind of form that saw him twice reach double figures for goals in the Championship in two separate seasons with the Royals, otherwise he may be best off steering clear of social media for the foreseeable future.
