Redfearn delighted with hard working display

Leeds United boss Neil Redfearn felt the side were excellent as they beat top of the table Derby County 2-0 at Elland Road.

Leeds beat Derby thanks to two goals from striker Mirco Antenucci and Redfearn was happy with how his side put the visitors under pressure.

Speaking to the official website , Redfearn said, "I thought we were excellent today.

'I think they`re a top side - you can see that.

'I thought they passed the ball well and they caused problems. But I thought we stuck in.

'I thought it was a great game, I have to say. It was two sides trying to play football but the finishing was out of the top drawer.

'We`ve got to put people under pressure and get the crowd behind us because it`s an intimidating place when it`s like that.

'We talked about it through the week, we talked about it before the game today and I thought the performance mirrored that.'

The win for Leeds ended a run of twelve games without a win against Derby stretching back to September 2005.

It was a deserved win for Leeds, who stopped Derby from having a shot on target for 90 minutes.

Alex Mowatt had already tested Lee Grant in the Derby goal when he played a key part in the opening goal.

Mowatt broke down the left and his ball into the middle found an unmarked Antenucci, who made no mistake from close range with a coolly taken finish.

Leeds settled any nerves early in the second half when Antenucci added his and Leeds second. This time it was Stephen Warnock breaking down the Leeds left and he found Antenucci on the penalty spot whose finish was out of the top drawer.

The Italian striker was enjoying his best game since arriving from Italy in the summer and he twice came close to completing his hat trick as Grant denied him with a sharp low save and another effort just went wide of the target.

A superb win for Leeds against a side challenging for automatic promotion and they must now take this into their next game at Ipswich Town next weekend.

Leeds United striker Mirco Antenucci may have taken the headlines after his brace led to a 2-0 victory against Derby County on Saturday, but another member of Neil Redfearn's side had a game to remember.

Alex Mowatt is only 19 but he already looks a cut above the majority of midfield talent on show in England's second-tier, so it is no surprise he has been linked with a number of Premier League clubs.

With a long-term contract and under the tutelage of Redfearn there is no reason to think Mowatt will leave Elland Road when his dreams could be realised where he is; and on Saturday he continued to show just what a great young player he is.

Mowatt outshone his fellow Leeds midfielders with a 100 per cent on-target shooting accuracy, three tackles and seven effective clearances.

In short he played a vital role against the league leaders and his 81 per cent passing accuracy showed both his maturity and his confidence.

If Leeds do earn a place in the top-six this season - and it is certainly possible - Mowatt has a huge role to play and if he can stay fit and available there is every reason he could be one of the stars of the campaign.

When you consider what has happened at Elland Road this season it is testament to the players at the club that they are performing as well as they are, with Redfearn clearly the right man for the job.

The future looks bright for both him and for Mowatt, who would be wise to stick around to see if Leeds' next generation can fulfil their considerable promise.
Tell me - I've got to know
Tell me - Tell me before I go
Does that flame still burn, does that fire still glow
Or has it died out and melted like the snow
Tell me  Tell me
