Steve Evans says he would have "no hesitation" in handing new midfield signing Toumani Diagouraga a United debut against his former club Brentford on Tuesday evening.

The 28-year-old only finalised his switch to Elland Road from the Bees on Monday, but could be set for a quick return to Griffin Park after travelling down with the squad.

“I’d have no hesitation in playing him,” Evans said. “He’s trained very well this morning â€" the quality was good.

“It raises the bar with everyone when a new player comes in as not only does he try to shine, but the current players try to shine and outdo him to make sure they keep their places.

“We can’t beat anything other than competition.

“People might question whether we have too many midfielders, but it’s about quality over quantity and it’s my job to manage it. We’ve got some good options in there.”

Evans has confirmed that Alex Mowatt will miss out again, with the midfielder having undergone a scan on a thigh problem on Sunday, while Chris Wood is pushing for a recall to the starting line-up after making a positive impact as a substitute upon his return from injury in Saturday’s win over Bristol City.

“There aren’t many changes to the squad, really,” Evans said. “Obviously we now have Toums â€" he’s on the coach to Brentford.

“Alex Mowatt is still missing, though, and he’s probably going to be a week away from returning.

“He had a scan yesterday and it’s nothing more than deep bruising on his high. He’ll heal from that quickly.

“Woody did ever so well after coming on, but he’s only 30 minutes into his return from injury.

“Do I introduce him at the start? He made such an impact as a substitute on Saturday â€" something I saw him do many times for Leicester coming off the bench.

“Whether we stay with what we had against Bristol City and see what the boys can achieve, I’ll take the opinions of the staff.

“We’ll talk long and hard as we travel â€" it’s a long trip down â€" and we’ll speak this evening before we reach a conclusion and I make the decision.”

Asked about Diagouraga’s arrival, Evans added: “It’s fair to say when I first joined that I had two names I wanted to strengthen the centre of midfield with.

“We got Liam Bridcutt in relatively quickly and the next name on that list was Toumani.

“People can see he’s here for two-and-a-half years, but there may be an option in the contract to take that further.

“He’s a dominant, strong, purposeful and powerful midfield player.

“I ask our supporters to go on LUTV and look back at the footage of our game at home to Brentford in which Toumani was simply the best player on the park by some distance.

“It wasn’t just his breaking up of the play and his power in midfield. He was also passing it all over the pitch and his football was most impressive.”

Vi bør ta seier nr 2 på rad nå. Skal det bli litt spenning utover våren så bør vi  plukke  3-poengere mot slike lag. Vi vinner 2-1 uten å imponere etter noe bedre spill enn mot Bristol. Brentford er i en  vanskelig  2. sesong i ch.ship og får problemer.

Det er bare å ta han opp på dette og se om det stemmer.

I høydepunktene har han ihvertfall ingen berøringer, han holder på være med å gi Leeds seiersmålet og er passiv og lat når vi scorer 1-1.

Jeg får ikke sett 90 minutter av denne kampen i dag, men tipper at dette er nok en Evans uttalelse som ikke stemmer overens med virkeligheten

Brentford er en forstad til London, og ligger der elva Brent renner ut i Thames, bare 11km øst for Heathrow.  Stedet har hatt en tidvis sentral plass i engelsk historie, bl.a som åsted for flere slag.  Både i 1016 og 1642 var det store slag her.   Indianerprinsessen Pocahontas bodde i Brentford i 1616 og 1617.
Den amerikanske presidenten John Quincy Adams bodde her 1815-1817.
Brentford er vennskapsby med Branford, Connecticut.

Brentford FC (the Bees) ble dannet i 1889 fordi medlemmene i den lokale roklubben trengte noe å gjøre om vinteren.   
Klubben har stort sett oppholdt seg på 3. og 4. nivå, med en og annen gjesteopptreden på 2.nivå.  Nå er de i Championship på andre sesongen, og har vel etter forholdene gjort det ganske bra.  5.plass og play-off forrige sesong, og foreløpig 10.plass denne sesongen.

Hjemmekampene spilles på Griffin Park, som har vært klubbens stadion siden 1904.  Kapasiteten er 12 763, rekorden 38 678 fra 1949.  Banen benyttes pt også av Chelsea reserves og Chelsea Youth Team.  Stadion er bare 6km fra Loftus Road, og QPR er dermed klubbens største rival.  Griffin Road er den eneste banen i England med en pub i hvert hjørne.
Det er planer om nytt stadion med kapasitet på 20.000.  Planene har eksistert siden 2002, og siste offentlige godkjenning var på plass sommeren 2015.

Evans uttalte vel at han muligens hadde gått for 442 sist om wood var fresk. Som du sa så var det hjemme. Men likevel. Jeg tror nok hovedforslaget seff er soleklart mest sannsynlig. Så mest for meg Doukara i hengerollen bak wood. IKKE som ren spiss. Litt dårlig formulert med på TOPP

Vi skulle egentlig spille 4-4-2 mot Bristol City, men Antenucci var i Italia hele uka og måtte derfor starte på benken!

Brentford selger unna om dagen , og tviler på om stemningen i den troppen er god etter at Diago' ble solgt til oss - og nå Judge har bedt om transfer.
