Premier League defender joins the Whites.

Leeds United are delighted to confirm the arrival of Connor Roberts on loan from Premier League side Burnley, until the end of the 2023/24 campaign.

Roberts moves to Elland Road with vast experience of playing in the Sky Bet Championship, having won the division and secured promotion with the Clarets last season.

At the end of that campaign, the Welshman was named in both the EFL Championship Team of the Season, along with the PFA Team of the Year.

The 28-year-old defender also has over 50 caps at international level, having represented Wales at UEFA Euro 2020, as well as the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

So far this season, Roberts has made 16 appearances in all competitions for Burnley, being deployed on both the right and the left hand-side of the defence when called upon.

In his early career Connor progressed through the academy at Swansea City, playing alongside both Dan James and Joe Rodon, who he now links back up with, as well as international teammate Ethan Ampadu.

He will wear the number 33 shirt and could make his Whites debut against Rotherham United in the Sky Bet Championship at Elland Road next weekend.

Velkommen!

Velkommen!

Velkommen til The Yorkshire Welsh Union Connor Roberts!!  ;D ;D ;D

Vi trenger å bli kjent med Connor.

På årets Championship-lag forrige sesong. Har vært involvert i 16 kamper (totalt 21 serierunder og noen cupkamper) denne sesongen, nesten alt i Premier League...

Han liker å stå opp for lagkameratene:
"It's been what I've been about since I started playing football, to be honest, just get in there, get stuck in," he said. "I'm a rugby boy at heart, so I like a little scrap every now and again, but Vincent Kompany is a big part of that as well.

"Last season, as good as we were on the ball playing football and we looked fancy, we were gritty and we stuck up for each other and we knew, if the faeces hit the fan, we had to go again, we had to stick by each other.
"In the end, you get promoted as a team, not as individuals, so you all have to be in it together and there's one thing for sure, if Joe or DJ get started on, I'm flying straight in there."

Roberts wants to pass on that knowhow and experience to this young Leeds side. He wants to be that voice of reason, alongside your Liam Coopers, in the trenches as Farke's side fight for every inch in a brutal promotion race.

Roberts did not grow up as a Leeds fan but speaking after finalising his loan last night, he told The Athletic that it had always been a club he had liked the idea of joining — and said he hoped his spiky nature on the pitch would appeal to the crowd in equal measure.

"I couldn't put my exact finger on it but some of you might remember the first time I ever played here was for Middlesbrough," he said. "It was Garry Monk's first game back here (in 2017), my league debut in the Championship. I started and I just thought 'wow, this is brilliant'.

"If you achieve at big clubs like this, it's even more special because of the size of the club and the amount of supporters they have. A lot of people say 'oh, I was a Leeds fan, I'd love to play for Leeds.' I wasn't a Leeds fan, don't get me wrong, but from when I started playing football, I experienced Elland Road and what Leeds was about.

"I can honestly say that I've said to a lot of players 'I'd love to play for Leeds' and a lot of them have said 'you probably are a Leeds player as well' because I like getting in a scrap."

Killa

Roberts's experience comes to the fore
When he was thrown on in the 62nd minute, Connor Roberts was older than everyone in pink but Patrick Bamford. The 28-year-old has only been with the Whites for a month, but his seniority and experience is already coming to the fore.

Roberts, a veteran of two play-off runs and a Championship title, brought the urgency, vision, authority, clarity and desire to give Leeds the second wind they needed on Saturday. The right-back was marshalling the rest of the team and trying to single-handedly drag this team back to their best level.

You could hear him bellowing for the ball to come right, where United's freshest players were. He was talking Daniel James through the entire game, telling his compatriot exactly where to put himself ahead of each passage of play.

Georginio Rutter was even being dragged out to the right from the centre by Roberts to find some more space on the flanks, where Leeds could hurt Huddersfield with their superior numbers. Roberts is being everything he told us he would be when we met him after signing on February 1.

He knows what it takes to get out of this league, he knows how fine the margins are in those draws, for example, Burnley turned into wins last season. In such a young side, Roberts could well become a voice Daniel Farke turns to more and more frequently.

The temptation to push Archie Gray into midfield may pave the way for Roberts too.

Forventer å se ham fra start i morgen.
