V har fått en del hint om spillernes syn på DOL opp igjennom. Men tydeligere enn Danny Mills her går det vel ikke an å være.
'He wasn't a great coach, tactically he was poor' - Danny Mills blasts former Leeds United bossDanny Mills spent five years at Elland Road, from 1999 to 2004
By Ricky Charlesworth 10:00, 30 MAR 2020Danny Mills played at Elland Road for five years, also representing England at the 2002 World Cup.
Danny Mills, the former Leeds United defender, has lambasted his former Elland Road boss David O'Leary.
Mills spent five years at the Whites from 1999 to 2004, with the majority of his Leeds career spent under the tutelage of O'Leary.
Despite making 68 Premier League appearances during the Irishman's reign, Mills clearly did not enjoy his time as a player under O'Leary.
“Dave O’Leary was shocking, absolutely shocking and I’ve said that many many times," Mills told Tubes' YouTube channel.
“People said how did you have such a good team, bearing in mind we were Champions League, third, fourth, fifth in the Premier League.
"He assembled a very good young squad that were all very hungry, desperate to do well and we just went out and played.
“The formation that we had worked perfectly.
"But apart from Rio (Ferdinand), nobody really went on and enhanced their career after that - that time at Leeds was our peak time.
"Nobody really went on to another level, be it Harry Kewell, (Lee) Bowyer."
Mills, who is now a pundit, also made a startling admission that the Leeds players at the time "didn't particularly like" O'Leary.
Mills added: "He ( O’Leary ) wasn’t a great coach, everyone thought he was great when he first signed and he turned the Irish charm on and it was alright, it was all my young babes.
"(But) Tactically he was poor. The lads didn’t particularly like him, and that’s why we struggled.
“Before I went to the World Cup he slaughtered me, there was a two-page spread in one of the tabloids, (he) hammered me and he said if he ever plays like that again he will never play for me again.
"I walked into a restaurant afterwards (after the World Cup)and saw him so I thought I'll go and say hello.
"I walked over and he said 'I knew it would work Danny, I knew if I said that you'd play really well'.
"It was absolute nonsense. It was all about him, and him as a manager.
"He wanted the team to do well but it was all about him."
