WARNER SIGNS FOR NORWICH

Norwich have signed Fulham goalkeeper Tony Warner on loan until the end of the season.
The 32-year-old has been drafted in by manager Peter Grant to replace David Marshall, who injured ankle ligaments during the FA Cup fifth round defeat by Chelsea last month.
Warner, who made his name at Millwall after starting out as a trainee with Liverpool, will go straight into the squad for Saturday's Coca-Cola Championship clash with Barnsley.
He told the club's website, www.canaries.co.uk: "The question got posed and it didn't take too long for me to think about it."
"There are some people here I know from other clubs so I had a word and they told me how good the club was. It's a great opportunity for me."

Smith impresses for Man Utd second-string

Alan Smith turned in a five-star performance for Manchester United reserves in last night's 3-0 victory over Newcastle.
Smith didn't get on the scoresheet, but was the outstanding player on the pitch as he pushes for a first team return.
Michael Barnes, Jamie Mullan and Chris Eagles struck for United.

Birmingham in Blackburn talks for Gray
Birmingham City are in talks with Blackburn Rovers over a loan deal for fullback Michael Gray.
The 32-year-old left back has been omitted by Rovers boss Mark Hughes since their 6-2 drubbing at Arsenal in December.
He slipped further down the pecking order when Hughes brought in Stephen Warnock from Liverpool but a move to Leeds, where he spent three months on loan in 2005, fell through.
Birmingham manager Steve Bruce believes Gray's experience can help them win promotion from the Championship and he is expected to sign until the end of the season.

Lykkeønsninger fra Woody:

Former Leeds player Jonathan Woodgate says what has happened to the club since he left is "a travesty" and he hopes their fortunes recover (Guardian).

Flere ting i Guardian-intervjuet med Woody:

* Samarbeider forsatt med ex-Leeds-fysio David Hancock (nå Chelsea):
"Rather than boasting, the refreshingly straight-talking, down to earth Woodgate - who has benefited from working one-to-one with Dave Hancock, a specialist physiotherapist - was merely being truthful. Such honesty dictates that, despite Real's apparent willingness to sell him, he refuses to make any promises about committing his future to Middlesbrough when the loan expires in June."

* Følger Leeds:
"Unwilling to break old ties, Woodgate still follows results at Newcastle and Leeds. "You care about your former clubs," he explained. "And what has happened at Leeds is a travesty; I really hope they get out of trouble."

* Lojalitet til Bobby Robson:
"retaining warm memories of Sir Bobby Robson, Newcastle's former manager who courted controversy in signing him from Leeds in the aftermath of his conviction for affray following a serious group assault on an Asian student in Leeds. "Sir Bobby took a chance on me after all that stuff about the court case and I didn't let him down," he reflected. "Bobby's a fantastic man who had a big influence on me."

Hulse Odyssey - Tortuous route to the top for Rob

Rob Hulse may have taken the long way round, but at 27 the former Crewe striker has finally followed in the footsteps of his old Liverpool idols by making his own mark on the Premiership.

Not that he believes he has emerged from his journey from Gresty Road to the top flight â€" via Hyde United, West Bromwich Albion’s bench and Leeds United’s rollercoaster ride towards disaster â€" as the finished article.
But Sheffield United’s talismanic £2.2million striker has absorbed the knocks and learned from his experiences to become a key figure in manager Neil Warnock’s strategy for survival at Bramall Lane.
His soaring header on the opening day against Liverpool, giving his team-mates the conviction that they could prosper in such rarefied atmosphere, was a defining moment in Hulse’s stop-start career.
Even so, it did not match the game Hulse recalls as "the best I ever played in", when his goal started a riot.
He said: "I’d had 18 months out as a youngster at Crewe with a spinal problem, and I think the loan to Hyde United was sink or swim to see how I’d hold out. Going there was the best thing I ever did.
"There was a mass brawl at Blyth Spartans. We won 4-3, probably the best game I ever played in! We were 3-0 down in 10 minutes and we scored before half-time, but we were getting battered.
"As we took the kick-off, one of the lads said: 'We’ll be all right, Hulsey will score a hat-trick this half', and I did.
But the last one was the jammiest goal I’ve scored in my life. "I ran towards the keeper, he kicked it out, it hit me in the face and went in the net. But they protested that I’d handled it in. All hell broke loose. Someone was chasing people with a corner flag.
"We needed a police escort out of there â€" brilliant. I was a bit shocked at the time, but when I look back...I love that football club. I still look for their results, and I’ve got my Hyde shirt somewhere in the wardrobe.
"I was there three months. I only played 11 games, I was just coming back and I had niggles. But I loved every minute. If you won, you’d get pie and gravy on the way home. And it probably toughened me up."
He needed it. While "you can come off battered and bruised in the Championship", the Premiership is something else: "Everybody you come up against, week in week out, is an athlete â€" fit, strong, fast."
Hulse still winces at the gory but accidental broken nose his boot inflicted on the luckless Peter Crouch at a corner in Liverpool’s 4-0 win at Anfield last week. But both he and Crouch know the score.
Hulse said: "You never like to see any player hurt. As soon as it happened I knew it was quite bad, because of his reaction and because it hurt my foot. But there are always going to be things like that in games.
"If the fans saw Peter Crouch, earning whatever he’s on, 30 or 40 grand a week, pull out of that header, they’d go mad. If you saw John Terry avoiding a header, you’d think something was drastically wrong.
"I went to the changing room afterwards to speak to Peter. He wasn’t there. I passed on my apologies and best wishes to one of the Liverpool staff. Peter’s fine. He knows you’re just focused on the ball.
"I’ve had my nose broken a couple of times, and I’m sure it’ll get a few more whacks before I finish. Last time was with Leeds at Gillingham, I’d just scored the winner. I had it put back, so I know how painful it is."
Hulse is not only a confirmed Crouch admirer but a long-standing Liverpool fan. "I’d go to Anfield with my dad. The posters on my bedroom wall were Rush, Barnes, McMahon, Aldridge...that was a bloody good team.
"I’d be lying if I said I never dreamed of playing for Liverpool. I watched the 2005 European Cup Final in Istanbul in a pub. The spark gets lost when you’re playing yourself, but that night it was like going back. The whole pub was jumping."
Hulse had two false starts when the big-time came knocking. But he has come to view his first move, from Crewe to West Bromwich for £750,000, as a blessing in disguise for his development.
"At Crewe we played football as I like to think it should be played â€" then I moved to West Brom under Gary Megson and it was a total culture shock. One week it was football, the next week chasing long balls.
"I didn’t like it, but I think it made me a better player. I’m more versatile, it made me deal with harder balls to get hold of. I’m more confident now. You get to know what you have to do, you’re a bit more cultured."
Bryan Robson, Megson’s successor at The Hawthorns, put Hulse, returning from injury, on the bench in the Premiership, even though he had been the club’s top scorer in their promotion season. Hulse no longer looks back in anger.
"I missed out at West Brom, but it doesn’t bother me now. If I was Bryan Robson, maybe I wouldn’t have played me. They were struggling to survive in the Premiership. Perhaps it wasn’t the right time for me."
His switch to Leeds, in a £1.1m move, felt like the right move. The fans loved their 14-goal Incredible Hulse, Leeds reached the play-off final â€" then the wheels fell off in a 3-0 debacle against Watford at Cardiff.
Hulse insists Sheffield United remain part of the dogfight at the foot of the Premiership. "We’re still fighting relegation. The people who wrote us off at the start are saying we’re safe. None of us believe that. We’re trying not to listen.
"Coming to Sheffield was my chance at 26. I thought Neil was a character, passionate about what he did, and I’ve not looked back. We’ve had a good season so far, but it means nothing if we don’t stay up."
Maybe then he will get the invitation he’s waited for: "I love to fish, but the Gaffer and Phil Jagielka haven’t asked me to join them yet."

EX-FYSIO HENTER ANNEN EX-FYSIO TIL CHELSEA

Preston North End head physio Steve Kemp has teamed up with Chelsea's Dave Hancock to open a practice at the Virgin Active Health Club in the Capital Centre at Walton-le-Dale.
The two football medics, who worked together at both Blackburn Rovers and Leeds United, have gone into partnership offering private sessions for injury rehabilitation and back pain.
Steve, who joined Preston from Wolves at the start of the current season, explained: "I've known Dave since we worked together at Blackburn and Leeds and he has clinics in nine Virgin Active gyms around the country.
"When I took the job as head physio at PNE he called me up and asked if I would be interested in running the Preston Physiotherapy Practice.
"The gym is fantastic and a great environment to carry out rehabilitation."
The clinic will specialise in sports injuries, back problems and post-operative rehabilitation. It is open for patients most evenings and is recognised by all major insurance companies.
Dave, who was poached by Chelsea recently in an attempt to resolve the injury crisis at Stamford Bridge, added: "Steve is a first class physio and PNE are lucky to have him.
"That is why I was so keen to go into partnership with him when I heard he had been appointed as the new physio at Preston this season."

Keane til Keane?

The News of the World says Keane will be handed a massive £25 million to spend in the summer should his team win promotion.
And Keane's former Manchester United team-mates O'Shea and Solskjaer are top targets. Spurs striker Robbie Keane, Celtic midfield man Thomas Gravesen and Liverpool forward Craig Bellamy are also on the hitlist.
Chairman Niall Quinn has announced a new kit deal with Umbro and is looking to find new sponsors with Reg Vardy pulling out this year. The Black Cats are also in negotiations to sign a multi-million pound deal with brewers Guinness.
A Sunderland source revealed: "Niall has been busy trying to tie up a few deals which will be of a massive benefit.
"He and his backers have promised Roy around £25m. They're serious about taking Sunderland to the top.

David Seaman began his career at Leeds United, the club he supported as a boy. However (much to his disappointment), he was not wanted by then-manager Eddie Gray, who had been his favourite player. Seaman went to Division 4 club Peterborough United for a £4,000 fee in August 1982, where he began to make a name for himself.

Noen som husker Matt Baker?

Han er nå klar for Rushden & Diamonds.

Rushden & Diamonds have ended their search for a new goalkeeper with the signing of Weymouth goalkeeper Matt Baker on a season-long loan deal.
The 27-year-old began his career as a schoolboy at Leeds United before signing for Hull City as an apprentice and progressing through the youth ranks.
The 6ft stopper was an integral part of the Hereford side that returned to the Football League as Nationwide Conference champions during the 2003/04 season and since then has played for Wrexham, MK Dons and Weymouth.
Baker has also made four appearances for the England National Game XI and knows new Diamonds boss Garry Hill from their time with the Terras.
