Leeds players prepare for International matches
Published on February 9th, 2011

S. Africa v Kenya (Weds 18:45)
Following on from his debut appearance in the 1-0 defeat to the USA in November, Davide Somma is expected to make his second appearance for South Africa tonight as they take on Kenya.

Pitso Mosimane is confident his squad is in good shape ahead of the match, singling Leeds United’s Davide Somma out for individual praise;

“It’s getting better and I’m pleased to see some of the guys getting a good run for their clubs. Somma is doing very well and I hope the goals he has been scoring in the UK can rub off on us.”

Scotland v N. Ireland (Weds 19:45)
Leeds United star, Robert Snodgrass has been named amongst the substitutes for Scotland’s match against Northern Ireland tonight.

The Whites’ wing wizard is hoping to get his first taste of International football after injury problems thwarted his last opportunity.

Leeds captain Jonny Howson is confident his team mate can take the step up, telling the Yorkshire Evening Post that;

“Snod is one of those players who could easily be playing at a higher level. I’m sure he could do well in the Premier League.

“He gives problems to lots of full-backs and one of the main ones he gave a tough time last season was Fabio Aurelio at Liverpool.

“He was terrific again on Saturday and I think as a midfield player it makes your life easier and we just can give Robert and Max the ball and let them go and do the work.

“For me and Brad (Bradley Johnson), sometimes it’s just a simple pass to them.”

Honduras v Ecuador (Thurs 01:30)
Newly crowned American Cup champions, Honduras will take on Ecuador early Thursday morning with their ‘Most Valuable Player’ Ramon Nunez expected to be in the starting line-up despite failing to break into the Leeds United first team.

Nunez will see International matches like these as good match practice and an invaluable chance to impress Leeds United manager Simon Grayson. However, the scheduled time of the match and time difference may have also have an adverse affect on his chances, as it will surely rule him out of contention for Saturday’s game at Bristol.

Hva med Austin, fast inventar på Jamaica's midtbane!
I scored 24 goals helping my side win promotion back to the Premier League aged just 22. Then in my first season in the top flight I had bagged an impressive 15 goals by the end of January. My form earned me an England call-up. Am I a £35m striker? No. I am Michael Ricketts, February 2002.

Så nettopp en artikkel om at Austin har bedt om å bli fritatt for en kamp nå pga at han vil "settle in" i Leeds..

Mens de fleste spillerne våre får hvilt litt nå, er det 5 som skal ut og reise.

LUFC Five players away on international duty

Leeds United have five players away on international duty over the next two weeks.

Ross McCormack is back in the Scotland squad after an impressive start to the season for Leeds.

The striker is looking to make his first appearance for Scotland under boss Gordon Strachan.

He was forced to pull out of his first two squads through injury and illness before being left out of his last two squads.

Scotland face Belgium and Macedonia in two World Cup qualifiers. They play Belgium at Hampden Park on Friday September 6th before travelling to Macedonia for the game on Tuesday September 10th.

The Tartan Army are already out of the running for qualification despite a surprise 1-0 win in Croatia in the last qualifying game.

Rodolph Austin is in the Jamaican squad as they try to resurrect their World Cup qualifying campaign.

Jamaica are currently bottom of their six team group, four points behind Panama in fifth place, who they face in the first of their two games in the next ten days.

The Reggae Boyz have four games remaining in their group and they know a fifth place finish would see them still in with a chance of qualification.

Jamaica travel to Panama on Friday September 6th for a must win game before hosting Costa Rica on Tuesday September 10th.

Paul Green is in the final Republic of Ireland squad named by Giovanni Trapattoni for their World Cup qualifiers against Sweden and Austria.

Ireland are on the same points as both Sweden and Austria as they battle for second place in their World Cup group.

Sweden visit the Aviva Stadium Dublin on Friday September 6th before they travel to Austria for the game in Vienna on Tuesday September 10th.

Young midfielder Chris Dawson is away with the Wales under-21 squad.

Wales face two European under-21 championship qualifiers against San Marino and Moldova in the next two weeks.

Wales travel to San Marino on Friday September 6th before travelling to Moldova on Tuesday September 10th.

Dawson will hope to add to the one cap he has so far earned having made his debut against Iceland in February.

Young goalkeeper Eric Grimes is in the Republic of Ireland under-19 squad for their two friendlies against Slovenia this week.

Ireland play Slovenia in Waterford on Tuesday 3rd and Thursday 5th September.

Vital Leeds will keep you up to date with how they all do.

LUFC Bad night for Leeds internationals

It was a bad night for those involved and not involved for Leeds United internationally on Tuesday night.

Paul Green played the 90 minutes for Republic of Ireland as they lost for the second time in four days to end their slim hopes of World Cup qualification.

Ireland lost 1-0 to a late goal in Austria and they are now six points behind second placed Sweden with just two games remaining.

Next up for Ireland is a trip to runaway group leaders Germany who will guarantee qualification with a win.

It was a 17th cap for Green since making his debut in 2010.

Ross McCormack was an unused substitute as Scotland secured a rare group win in Macedonia.

A late winner from Shaun Maloney lifted Scotland off the bottom of their group.

With Rodolph Austin suspended for Jamaica following their draw in Panama on Friday, Jamaica battled to a 1-1 draw with group leaders Costa Rica in Kingston.

Jamaica equalised deep into stoppage time against the group leaders but they remain four points off a play-off spot with just two games remaining in the group.

Next up is a trip to group leaders USA in October before they finish off with a home game against Honduras.

Chris Dawson was again left out of the squad for the Welsh under-21 side as they drew their latest European Championship qualifier 0-0 in Moldova.
