Wolves 1 Leeds 0
Basement side Leeds' predicament at the bottom of the Coca-Cola Championship table worsened with promotion-chasing Wolves winning 1-0 at Molineux.Wanderers centre-half Rob Edwards had headed on to the United woodwork either side of half-time before Michael Kightly scored the only goal of the game with little more than a quarter of an hour remaining.
The Elland Road outfit had found themselves under pressure early on as Michael McIndoe fired a cross-shot wide from left to right in only the second minute before the visitors responded through Robbie Blake whose 18-yard effort was equally wayward.
Wanderers were once more on the attack 20 minutes later as McIndoe supplied Stephen Ward, although the striker's shot was crowded.
And from the subsequent corner, Seyi-George Olofinjana's header was tipped over by Leeds goalkeeper Casper Ankergren before more chaos ensued in the United penalty box as Matt Heath blocked an Andy Keogh effort.
As the hosts sought to turn the screw, referee Michael Jones waved away a penalty appeal after Kightly was challenged by Manuel Rui Marques.
A second Wolves penalty appeal was waved away by the Cheshire official in the 38th minute after Kightly's cross struck Eddie Lewis.
Seconds before the interval Rob Edwards hit the post with a header from another McIndoe free-kick but Wolves had midfielder Darren Potter to thank for a last-ditch tackle which dispossessed Jonathan Douglas as he shaped to shoot.
Both sides ran out unchanged for the start of the second half which opened with Leeds re-asserting themselves though back-to-back corners but Wolves threatened again in the 56th minute though after another McIndoe flag-kick, taken from the Wanderers right, was met at the back post by Edwards who this time hit the bar.
As Wolves pressed again Keogh teed up Kightly who fired his side-foot volley over the crossbar as the offside flag went up before the visitors once more failed to capitalise on two successive corners.
Wolves dangerman McIndoe let fly with a long-range shot which worried Ankergren until fizzing inches over the crossbar in the 72nd minute before seeing a falling volley blocked by Rui Marques.
McIndoe was in the thick of the action once more as he and Keogh combined to open up Leeds on the visitors left flank but Kightly was unable to direct his header on target from the penalty spot.
The deadlock was broken in the 76th minute though after Jackie McNamara was allowed to advance from his left-back berth, through the centre of the park and to the edge of the Leeds box.
There the Scotsman played to his right for Kightly who cut in and fire home through a crowded penalty area, despite visiting fans having attempted to stop the move by throwing a spare ball on to the pitch.
Wolves keeper Matt Murray tipped over from Eddie Lewis late on.
