McCall makes Wetherall skipper
David Wetherall has been reappointed club captain at Bradford by new manager Stuart McCall ahead of the new League Two season
Veteran centre-half Wetherall passed the captain's armband to fellow defender Mark Bower when installed as caretaker-manager in February, but McCall has no doubts as to who he wants leading out the side next season.
McCall told the club's official website: "Wethers has got two years left on his deal and he can be one of our leading players next year, without a doubt.
"That's why he will be our club captain because I know what a big influence he can have."
McCall added: "I'd like to thank Wethers for all the work he has done before I came in.
"He got pre-season sorted out and contacted players and the time and effort he put in has been greatly appreciated and if he wants to do some coaching then that's great. If he wants to do some work with the reserves, that's great."

Middlesbrough, Sunderland battle for Man Utd's Smith
Middlesbrough and Sunderland are battling for Manchester United striker Alan Smith.
The 26-year-old England international is currently on holiday as speculation over his future continues with the north-east duo heavily tipped to fight it out for his signature.
He will return to seek assurances over his future at Old Trafford, where he still has two years remaining on his contract.

Middlesbrough to offer £6M for Man Utd's Smith
Middlesbrough are preparing a £6 million bid for Manchester United striker Alan Smith.
Southgate is hoping to persuade Smith to the north east after losing fellow striker Mark Viduka to Newcastle and Yakubu Aiyegbeni set to join Portsmouth for £12m.
Smith has been told he will not be offered a new deal at Old Trafford but Boro face a fight to land the former Leeds striker.
But Southgate is confident of a deal as Smith's good friend Jonathan Woodgate - another ex-Elland Road employee - joined Boro last season from Real Madrid.

Middlesbrough are eyeing Levante fullback Ian Harte.
Boro boss Gareth Southgate has made a surprise move for the Irish left-back having struggled to fill that position last season.
Harte, 29, who got to the Champions League semi-finals with Leeds in 2001, has been in Spain with Levante since 2004.

SMITH SAYS NO TO BORO
There's similar contradiction - if contradiction can be similar - in the papers about the future of Alan Smith.

Although The Daily Telegraph and Guardian believe that the ManYoo forward will make a decision on a proposed move to Middlesbrough when he returns on holiday later this week, The Sun says that he has already decided to say no.

'Gareth Southgate will fail to lure Alan Smith to Middlesbrough,' it reports. 'Smith, 26, wants European football and is set to snub Boro. Spurs are favourites with Sunderland, Everton and Portsmouth also keen.'

The Daily Mail agrees with the Spurs angle, announcing on its back page that 'Tottenham have joined the race for £6million-rated Manchester United forward Alan Smith.

SMITH INCLUDED IN FAR EAST SQUAD
Alan Smith has been handed a place in Manchester United's Far East tour squad as speculation over his Red Devils career rumbles on.
The former Leeds star has reportedly been seeking assurances over his future after failing to land a new contract offer from Sir Alex Ferguson.
Reports of a £6million bid from Middlesbrough being accepted for Smith have done little to quell the rumours surrounding his long-term future and with United attempting to push through a deal for Carlos Tevez this week, the England international's time at Old Trafford does appear limited.
But, with Louis Saha and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer injured and Giuseppe Rossi missing out due to his European Under-21 Championship commitments with Italy this summer, Smith found himself alongside Wayne Rooney as one of only two front-line strikers in Ferguson's squad.

Pulis laughs off Fowler reports
Stoke manager Tony Pulis has laughed off speculation linking Robbie Fowler with a move to the Britannia Stadium.
The former England striker is a free agent after being released by Liverpool at the end of last season and Pulis told the club's official club website: "No, Robbie Fowler is out of the question.
"If Port Vale are interested then we can't compete with the likes of them."
Pulis then joked: "I've actually made an offer for Raul though, but he's got to come within our wage structure and if he's prepared to do that then we'll take him."

Buckley dismisses Joachim talk
Alan Buckley has rubbished speculation linking former Aston Villa and Leicester striker Julian Joachim with a move to Blundell Park.
Joachim, 32, has been at the Mariners' League Two rivals Darlington since last August but is rumoured to be unhappy in the north-east.
According to Buckley, however, there is no prospect of the former Premier League star joining Grimsby.
Buckley said: "It's another one of those rumours that somebody has dreamt up. I can assure you that it isn't true.
"I think it is another one of those rumours that maybe comes from the docks or somewhere like that."

Cardiff confident of Fowler turning blue
CARDIFF CITY HAVE APPROACHED Robbie Fowler, right, whose contract with Liverpool expired last season. “We have offered an attractive package and are hopeful Robbie will decide to come,” Peter Ridsdale, the chairman, said. “The calibre of players the club is approaching shows how much we’ve progressed.”
Cardiff will face competition form Sydney FC, with reports in Australia claiming the player has opened talks with the club. Sources close to the A-League club are reported to be happy at the way their discussions have progressed.

The 50 worst footballers
Times Online presents the players who had no rightful place in England’s elite division in the modern era

Mange kjente Leeds-fjes på Time's liste...

47 Jody Morris (Chelsea, Leeds)
Grew up at Chelsea with Dennis Wise as his mentor, and turned into the snidey kid brother everyone hates. Had all of Wise’s sly tendencies and penchant for a scrape, but none of the skill. Perfect acquisition for Leeds in 2003, then.

45 Roque Junior (Leeds)
The execrable Brazilian arrived on loan for a few months from AC Milan in 2003, and did as much as anybody to shove Leeds towards destruction.

40 Carlton Palmer (Southampton)
“He covers every blade of grass out there,” said Saints manager, Dave Jones. “But that’s only because his first touch is so crap.”

32 Gary Sprake (Leeds)
The Kop serenaded the hapless Welshman with “Careless Hands” when he threw another one into the back of his own net, hardly a unique moment for the accident-prone Inspector Clouseau of international goalkeeping.

16 Chris Kamara (Leeds)
For more than two decades Kammy has sported the perma-frizzed coiff of a 60s soul legend, but it failed to distract from a playing style long on effort, short on elegance.

10 Vinnie Jones (Wimbledon and more)
Told Kenny Dalglish he intended to bite off his ear and spit in the whole. And they said there were no characters left in the game.

2 Tomas Brolin (Leeds, Crystal Palace)
Hard to imagine that Leeds United, normally a model of fiscal probity, paid £4.5m for the Swedish meatball in 1995. A good footballer treats his body like a temple. Brolin’s was a bouncy castle.

SHERIDAN ESCAPES TOUCHLINE BAN

Oldham manager John Sheridan has escaped another touchline ban after being found guilty of improper conduct.
Sheridan was charged following an incident during the Latics' 1-1 draw at Bradford on April 9 while already banned from the dugout for a previous offence. He has been fined £250.
The former Leeds, Sheffield Wednesday and Oldham midfielder was at the time serving a three-match suspension after being fined £600 following an altercation with referee Richard Beeby at Port Vale in February.

Fowler turns down move to Sydney
Sydney FC have revealed that Robbie Fowler has rejected their audacious bid to take him to Australia's A-League.
Cardiff City are now favourites to land him after the 32-year-old was released by Liverpool at the end of last season.
Sydney chief executive George Perry said: "We're bitterly disappointed but we're satisfied we did everything we could to persuade Robbie to come.
"Robbie was tremendously impressed by what he saw in Sydney but he's chosen to go elsewhere."
Fowler travelled to Sydney for talks and admitted he had been hugely impressed with the set-up.
The former England striker's representative George Scott said: "He was incredibly impressed with them and the city. The only thing against them is that Robbie is a Premiership player and he is used to Premiership money.
"The Premiership is unique in terms of the crazy money it generates and there is nothing in the world that replicates it, not even Spain. That money is well beyond Sydney and the Australian league and we know that.
"It is really a battle between money and quality of life and believe me, quality of life counts for a lot of money. All the money in the world is not going to buy your family's happiness."
Leicester have also joined the race to sign Fowler and have been in touch with his representatives.
"We'd be right for someone looking for the right challenge," chairman Milan Mandaric told the Leicester Mercury.
"Our rebuilding is not completed yet. We are still looking for more power up front and Fowler could give us that.
"I have been talking with his representatives and we know there is competition for him but it is not always about money," added Mandaric.
Cardiff chairman Peter Ridsdale was quoted on Liverpool's website as saying: "We have offered an attractive package and are hopeful Robbie will decide to come."
Fowler's adviser Scott also said Cardiff could be an option for Fowler.
He said: "I think Cardiff, if they have the ambition, is the sort of place Robbie would thrive at."
Fowler is likely to be taking a big wage cut if he moves to Cardiff, unless the Bluebirds shattered their wage structure - which is unlikely given the financial constraints caused by building a new stadium at Leckwith.
The alternative would be to put together a huge sponsorship package.
Ridsdale, who said he was surprised to hear that comments attributed to him had appeared on Liverpool's website, told BBC Sport Wales: "There's been a lot of press speculation.
"Obviously I know Robbie from his days at Leeds and he's an outstanding finisher and outstanding footballer.
"Were we ever in a position where we could attract him, I think our supporters would realise our talk of ambition is more than just talk.
"If and when we're in a position to announce the arrival of a player of that stature we will do so, but in the meantime I don't like talking about speculation."
Fowler made his Liverpool debut as an 18-year-old in 1993, scoring 171 goals in 330 games before joining Leeds for £11m in 2001 and then Manchester City for £6m in 2003.
Fowler returned for a second spell at Anfield in January 2006, although his starting appearances were limited.

Carson til City?

Eight players have already shuffled through the entrance of the Citeh of Manchester Stadium, but Sven isn't done just yet.
After both Andreas Isaksson and youngster Joe Hart picked up injuries at the end of last week, he now needs a goalkeeper, and the general consensus among the tabs is that the £5million-rated Palermo stopper Marco Amelia is his man.
Eriksson still wants Liverpool's Scott Carson, but the Times reports that Rafa Benitez is unlikely to let him go.

BLACKWELL FELT THE HEAT
Former Leeds boss Kevin Blackwell has revealed how the pressure of managing a club in rapid decline affected himself and his players during his ill-fated spell in charge at Elland Road.
Blackwell took Leeds to within a whisker of a return to the Premiership in May last year before being sacked by chairman Ken Bates the following September.
The 48-year-old, now manager at Luton, has looked on with sadness at another calamitous relegation and a subsequent summer-long battle for survival.
Blackwell said: "I've used the time to assess myself, things that I might have done right and wrong, and hopefully put them back into fruition now with Luton.
"I've learned to be a bit more ruthless. Hopefully what people tell you is the truth, but I think you have to be a bit more circumspect in how you deal with that.
"I don't think I was too nice at Leeds, I think sometimes you just accept things people say to you at face value.
"History will show that wasn't quite the case, so you have to learn.
"Sometimes football has a habit of destroying your confidence in human beings at times because you take people at face value - and want to - and sometimes that doesn't come off.
"Therefore you have to have a less-than-trusting attitude next time around. If that's ruthless than that's maybe what I've added."
Blackwell, a former goalkeeper with Scarborough and Huddersfield, ended a 17-year partnership with Neil Warnock at Sheffield United to become number two to former Leeds boss Peter Reid in June 2003.
When Reid was sacked after just eight months at the helm in November 2003, Eddie Gray stepped in as caretaker-manager, but Leeds were relegated from the top flight the following May.
Blackwell was named permanent boss later that summer. He was the club's fifth manager in under two years following David O'Leary's dismissal in June 2002.
In hindsight Blackwell claims he always knew the club had cash problems, but had not been made aware they were heading for financial meltdown.
He said: "I did know it was a critical situation, but I didn't realise the state of the club because obviously things weren't always told to me.
"But I was aware it was bad and I was aware when I started that first season that I had to try and get 10 points clear of relegation so that if we did take administration, at least whoever came in could put us into administration and it wouldn't see Leeds get relegated."
When asked exactly how much pressure he was under during his bid to get Leeds back into the Premier League, Blackwell revealed it was not just him who had suffered under the strain.
He added: "In the job we're in, you come across situations that the average man in the street won't come across.
"You have to deal with players' problems. It was well documented that at Leeds we had players that had been attempted to be drugged, broken legs possibly on people, and you had people coming to speak to you.
"I had two or three players crying in the office because things weren't right. The pressure at Leeds was phenomenal. I don't think anyone that hasn't worked in that situation would understand it."
Blackwell, currently locked in a legal battle with Leeds for compensation following his dismissal, insists he is still a huge fan of the club.
He added: "I've never said a bad word about Leeds United Football Club since I've left.
"I've got nothing but admiration for Leeds. It's one of the biggest football clubs in the country and, please God it will start.
"I think football needs Leeds United. There's no doubt that in the division we are in this season, in League One, wherever Leeds go it will be a full house because the mighty Leeds United are turning up."

CRESSWELL DENIES MEDICAL TALK
Richard Cresswell has denied his move to Hull City fell through due to a failed medical, and says it was his decision to opt for a switch to Stoke.
The former Leeds striker saw his move to Hull collapse before securing a three-year-deal at the Britannia Stadium.
And though his spell at Leeds was plagued with injuries, he insists his decision to join the Potters rather than Hull was a "footballing" one.
He told the club's official website: "It's a fantastic club with a lot of very good players. I believe this is a club that is going somewhere.
"A lot of things happened with Hull, but it was nothing to do with what has been said.
"My decision to come here was purely a footballing decision and I wanted to be part of the future here.
"There is a better chance of promotion here and that's what I want."

SMITH SALUTES FANS` RESPONSE
Newcastle new-boy Alan Smith has saluted the Magpies faithful for their response to his debut performance in a pre-season friendly with Sampdoria.
The former Manchester United striker bagged the only goal of the game, and says his first performance and goal for his new side was capped off by the superb reception he received.
Smith's debut came days after his £6 million switch to St. James' Park, and the 26-year-old is targeting a successful start to the season.
"I thank the fans for the reception they gave me, it was incredible," he told the club's official website.
"This is a massive club with fantastic support and I'm delighted to be here.
"I couldn't wait for the game and it was great to get 90 minutes under my belt.
"I was trying to time my runs to get on the end of things and thankfully I managed to score.
"I just can't wait for Bolton now and it's important we get a good start to the season."

Smith: Leaving Leeds tougher than Man Utd
Newcastle United striker Alan Smith says it was tougher leaving Leeds than Manchester United last week.
The England international told the Evening Chronicle: “Leaving Leeds United was more difficult for me than leaving Manchester United because of the connection I had with the club.
“The time for me to leave Manchester United had come.
“It wasn’t because they asked me to go or because I wasn’t good enough to perform at that level but because the chances that I was going to get were going to be limited.
“I am 26 now and I have been around for a few years.
“I wanted to go somewhere where I was starting afresh and where there was a new manager in place. There are also new staff here and new players coming in. (....)
