Leeds United boss:
Just sign here Tres

DENNIS WISE has urged Tresor Kandol to conclude contract negotiations at Elland Road after Leeds United revised their offer to the striker.

The latest proposal from United is in the hands of Kandol's agent, and Wise is hoping the forward will follow Jermaine Beckford in accepting a longer deal with the League One club. Beckford finalised a new two-and-a-half year contract with Leeds last week, extending his stay by an extra season until the summer of 2010.

The 23-year-old secured himself improved terms after scoring six goals during the first two months of the League One term, and Kandol is expected to accept a similar reward following his haul of five goals. Wise is not anticipating a problem with Kandol's discussion, but he urged the former Barnet striker to sign what United's boss described as a "very good offer". Kandol is already under contract at Elland Road for another two seasons.

Wise said: "Tres has been given the contract, and it's with his agent. It's been changed in one or two places to try and agree a couple of things. We've put together a very good contract and we're hoping that he signs it. If he doesn't then there would obviously be nothing we could do about that. You know what agents can be like sometimes. They get a little bit above themselves, and a little bit greedy. I hope that doesn't happen and I'm sure it will all be agreed. It was important to get Becks done first because his last deal went up to 2009. It's now 2010. Tres is already here until 2010 but we wanted to put the new offer to him. It's a very good deal."

Improving the contracts held by Beckford and Kandol will provide Leeds with greater protection in the January transfer window, when one or both of the forwards may be the subject of bids from other clubs. United, however, have rejected the option of inserting release clauses into either deal, ensuring that the club will not be forced into accepting outside offers of a certain value.

Wise said: "There's no clause in there saying that they'll be allowed to go for a certain amount of money. We aren't fools. It's not my style to do that because it puts us potentially in a position where we don't want to be. They want to stay, and they want to be part of us going forward. To put something like that in a contract would be stupid because we're not a selling club anymore, and I don't want us to be."

The conclusion of talks with Beckford ended any fears that the forward might see his future away from the club. Scunthorpe, who Beckford finished last season on loan at, tried to sign him permanently this summer and had a bid of around £200,000 rejected.

Wise said: "He's earned his contract. The one thing I wanted to make sure was that we looked after him properly. Good luck to him but now he needs to carry on. His form mustn't stop. He's got to keep doing what he's good at, and that's scoring goals and creating goals .I expected him to do that before we offered him the new contract, and that's why he got it. But I still expect it of him."

Får håpe at de fortsetter å score mål etter at langtidskontraktene er sikret.
