Sturrock praises Paynter display
Swindon boss Paul Sturrock was delighted after Billy Paynter came off the bench to score the winner in his side's 2-1 FA Cup win at Wycombe.
Paynter, relegated to substitute after recent sub-standard performances, scored the killer second goal as the Robins triumphed at Adams Park.
Sturrock said: "I thought Billy looked as if the wee spanking on the bum of starting on the bench had done him the world of good.
"I hope he takes it that way because his last three performances have been nowhere near what he can achieve.
"We saw the real Billy Paynter and hopefully he will appreciate now he's not the first name on the team sheet."

FA cup-kamp 10/11:

Wycombe - Swindon 1-2 (0-0)
0-1 Roberts (66), 0-2 Paynter (72), 1-2 Bloomfield (83)

Bill Paynter

Subs see Swindon through in cup

Substitutes Christian Roberts and Billy Paynter scored second-half goals as Swindon won 2-1 at Wycombe in the FA Cup first round on Saturday.
The hosts lost skipper Dave McCracken to injury early on but still carried the greater goal threat in a dour first half with Scott McGleish forcing a smart save from Robins keeper Peter Brezovan.
And the Chairboys' leading scorer again fired just wide on 58 minutes following a neat one-two with Matt Bloomfield.
Wycombe were made to rue those missed chances when half-time substitute Roberts struck on 68 minutes, capitalising on a defensive error by Tommy Williams before beating Frank Fielding from close range.
The Robins doubled their lead five minutes later when Barry Corr set up Roberts' fellow substitute Paynter who side-footed home from the edge of the box.
Wycombe grabbed a deserved consolation seven minutes from time when hesitation between Brezovan and Sofiene Zaaboub left Bloomfield to head into an empty net.

Swindon:
12 Brezovan, 16 Aljofree, 2 Smith J ***, 27 Tozer, 14 Comminges *, 11 Zaaboub, 8 Easton, 4 Peacock, 21 Sturrock **, 11 Corr, 19 Pook.
On The Bench: 17 Blackburn, 18 Adams *** (91), 7 McGovern, 34 Paynter ** (65), 7 Roberts * (46).

Ja, det gjelder å omstille seg fra cupspill. Nå vil vi ha en del uthvilte spillere igjen, og Wise vil forhåpentligvis klare å mobilisere på nytt. For spillerne er det snakk om å fremdeles være sultne nok. Enkle kamper eksisterer ikke her.

Corr eyeing Elland Road upset
Swindon striker Barry Corr admits he would love to put one over former side Leeds when the two sides meet at Elland Road on Saturday.

Victory for the Robins would bring them level on points with Dennis Wise's men, who would top the division by 10 points but for their 15-point deduction before the season kicked off.
And Corr, who was once a part of United's academy, acknowledges Town will have their work cut out against a side who have claimed 19 points out of a possible 21 at home.
"I had a good time there, it will be good to go back - hopefully to get a win. They are flying but hopefully we can go along and upset their party," he told the club's official website.
"It's a level playing field. 11 versus 11 so we'll be doing our best to get a win. No team is unbeatable. We will be going there to get a result.
"It will be a great test for us against a side who are probably the best in the league. It will be a good test and we'll see how we get on."

Vincent rocked by injury setback

Swindon defender Jamie Vincent is set to be on the sidelines until December after suffering an injury setback during a training session.
The 32-year-old was forced to leave the field against Gillingham on 6 October after picking up a calf strain.
Vincent told the club's website: "It looks as though I will be out for another couple of weeks.
"In the meantime I will be in the gym - rowing, cycling and swimming and see how things progress."

Sturrock refuses to risk Ifil and Tozer at Leeds

PAUL Sturrock fears Town's promotion push is in danger of crashing down around their ears - but insists he will not risk players' long term well-being for the collective good.
The Town boss is growing increasingly frustrated with the financial situation and resulting transfer embargo at the County Ground but will not endanger players' futures for the sake of a short-term fix.
Key central defender Jerel Ifil (main picture) is rated "very, very doubtful" for Saturday's trip to Leeds after a reaction to his shin injury from training yesterday.
While Sturrock has revealed he is not going to throw teenager Ben Tozer (below) into the Elland Road cauldron, despite an impressive showing last weekend, claiming the experience has come too soon for him.
With Ady Williams, Jamie Vincent and goalkeeper Phil Smith still missing from the defence, Sturrock's options are severely limited but he is not about to be panicked into risking his players' fitness or future.
He said: "Jerel is very, very doubtful. He has trained today and I don't think he has looked comfortable. We will give him every opportunity but I think it will be a difficult one.
"We have to weigh it up but it would not be fair to rush him. I will not bring the boy Tozer into line for this one though. I feel it would be an experience too early for him.
"I could play Tozer to the detriment of his development, but I just feel with their centre forwards it could be to the detriment of him.
"I envisage him not being in the starting XI. I have seen enough, I was very impressed but did feel there were things we would have to work on.
"It is a sensible option. Remember the league is 46 games, not one. But we are in a precarious position and could drop off the play-offs and we do not want to do that. But no-one will be risked."
With away games against Carlisle and Southend and a local derby against Bristol Rovers also on the horizon, Sturrock knows his side could be reaching a make-or-break stage of the campaign.
He said: "It is a horrible thing to say but with three tough away games ahead things could go dramatically wrong very, very quickly and it could become one of those nothing seasons.
"Then it would be real rebuild for next season as quickly as possible. That happened at Plymouth, once we got promoted we had a real look at it and knew we were not going to get up so moved a load of players on and looked ahead.
"It would be nice to be still sniffing things come Christmas and the New Year though."
Andy Nicholas and Chris Blackburn seem to be contesting the slot to partner Hasney Aljofree in the middle, but Sturrock admits the lack of transfer activity is really holding the side back.
He said: "Every day I keep people sweet but that only lasts so long. It is a worry to me because it would be nice to delve in the market.
"We had a real upsurge when we brought three in in the window. We can't afford to wait till January. I have four key spots to fill. It is really important we get this embargo off as quickly as possible.
"I have not missed a player yet. They have promised me more leeway but they are waiting and that won't go on forever."
Meanwhile Sturrock has confirmed fitness coach Jordan Milsom has left the club due to the financial situation.

Robins waiting on offer for club

Swindon are hoping to announce a significant development in the proposed takeover of the club by the Andrew Fitton consortium this weekend.
Fitton revealed his intentions to launch a takeover bid for the club last month and has been engaging in the due diligence process since but, with the club struggling financially, they have urged the consortium to act quickly.
A statement released on the club's website read: "The club are expecting, as per the agreement signed last month, a contract/offer from Andrew Fitton by November 16.
"But in the event that this is not forthcoming, the shareholders have informed the board that they are endeavouring to find necessary funds should Mr Fitton's offer not materialise."

Leeds United vs. Swindon Town
Elland Road
17/11/2007
1500

Swindon Town are a club, like Leeds who have suffered the infamy of considerable financial woes. It's a battle of the paupers as Leeds United take on a takeover bound Swindon Town.

Vital Quotes:
In October 2006, the management duo of Dennis Wise and Gus Poyet stunned Swindon Town fans by confirming that they were departing the club, bound for struggling Leeds United.
Now branded a 'traitor' by Vital Swindon, Wise goes into a first meeting with his former employers perhaps safe in the knowledge that with hindsight, he made the right choice.
Whilst Wise is expecting 'stick' from the 1700 travelling Town supporters, he firmly believes that when he left The County Ground that the time spent there was beneficial for the club: 'I enjoyed my time at Swindon,' Wise told leedsunited.com. 'I think we took 31 points from 16 games. We set a good base with the start we had, and the pre-season we'd had.
'The players worked hard and I enjoyed working with them. Then, this came along, it was a great opportunity and I wanted to take it.
'I don't have any regrets and hope I don't get too much stick, although I think I might do.'
A large portion of the squad from the Wise mini-era remain in the first team plans, and the boss has admitted that tactically Leeds may have to alter a few routines: 'There's quite a few still there, and some of them might remember a few of my set-plays so we might have to change things!
'I think they are a bit more direct, but it will be a tough game.'

*****

Turning to Swindon Town, manager Paul Sturrock has gone all Oriental when it comes to talking selection and tactics for his sides' trip to Yorkshire.
Speaking to the Swindon Advertiser Sturrock warbled: 'I am in a quandary about what the selection is now. Ask me at 2pm tomorrow, I will have made my mind up about which way we will go. Either we will go tora, tora, tora, or it will be the china wall.'
With Swindon suffering from injuries in all departments, it does however seem unlikely that they will be visiting Leeds United with defence in mind: 'If we were to put my thoughts onto the football pitch with the personnel I would like to be on the pitch, my advice would be don't go it would be a right boring game.
'But my personnel has been taken away and we are going to have to go with something a bit more cavalierish.'

Leeds United Team News:
Dennis Wise will be sweating on the fitness of both Jermaine Beckford and Frazer Richardson who have so far been the only named players to have suffered from some form of sickness bug.
Alan Thompson, despite completing 90 minutes for the reserves may not be risked.
Andy Hughes is back in training however other crocked players include Ian Westlake, Jonathan Douglas and Tore-Andre Flo.
Filipe Da Costa is suspended following his midweek red card.

Player to watch: Leon Constantine
Constantine looks like he may well be fully fit and raring to go now and the potential for Jermaine Beckford to miss the game through illness could provide him with a chance to stake a claim for a first team place.
If Beckford plays, expect Leon to make some form of impact from the bench.

Swindon Town Team News:
It is almost a case of naming the Swindon players that are currently fit, rather than the injury list at the moment as Paul Sturrock struggles to piece together a side.
Star defender Jerel Ifil is unlikely to feature as Swindon look not to risk any further reaction to his shin injury. Ifil is joined in the treatment room by fellow rear-guardsmen Ady Williams and Jamie Vincent.
First choice goalkeeper Phil Smith is also out injured, so 6 foot 7 Slovakian Peter Brezovan will deputise.

Player to watch: Blair Sturrock
It's the bosses’ son! With so many injuries will Sturrock junior add to his 8 appearances this season?
He's also the first person I've ever heard of with the first name 'Blair.'

All About Swindon:
You will find many interesting things about the town of Swindon, but none more interesting than:
The Motorola factory in Swindon was used in the James Bond film The World Is Not Enough disguised as a Turkish oil refinery.
In 1997 Swindon was named the fastest growing settlement in the World.
Billie Piper, famous for marrying Chris Evans and playing a prostitute on TV was born in Swindon. Possibly the town’s greatest export.
Swindon Town have been entertaining the locals since 1879, a year in which Edison first displayed his incandescent light to the general public.
Swindon is twinned with the German town of Salzgitter which is the home of the Federal Radiation Protection Office of Germany.

Ref Watch:
The fixture goes Premiership crazy this weekend as Lee Masontakes control, with Chris Foy backing him up as 4th official. Mr Mason hasn't sent anyone off yet this season, and witnessed the start of the Leeds United 2007/08 promotion push as he looked after the clubs 2-1 victory away to Tranmere Rovers on the opening day of the season.

Match Prediction:
Leeds 1-0 Swindon Town Kandol the difference!

Fit-again midfield pair back in contention for Leeds

CAPTAIN Alan Thompson and Shaun Derry will be close to recalls for Leeds United after coming through the midweek reserve match without problems.
The pair both completed the full 90 minutes in the 2-2 draw against Scunthorpe on Wednesday and, with fellow midfielder Jonathan Douglas ruled out, either or both could be in line for a place back in the first-team squad for tomorrow's home League Two game against Swindon Town.
Manager Dennis Wise could also have Andrew Hughes and Radostin Kishishev in contention as both continue to make progress in their recoveries.
Stand-in skipper Douglas has not linked up with the Republic of Ireland squad after suffering injury in Tuesday's Johnstone's Paint Trophy defeat against Bury. He was not expected to play for Leeds this weekend in any case, and he will also miss the FA Cup first round replay against Hereford through suspension.

(....)

Wise reckons the move to Glanford Park will give him valuable experience.
Victory in tomorrow's Elland Road game against the Robins, who lie tenth in the League Two table, could lift Leeds back into the play-off zone, as Wise's men continue to claw their way back from their 15-point deduction.

Breaking Yorkshire team news

Leeds United v Swindon Town

Team news: Jonathan Douglas is injured, while Alan Thompson is unlikely to be risked despite playing for the reserves in midweek. It means another possible chance for Jonny Howson alongside Andrew Hughes in the centre of midfield, although Radostin Kishishev has been back in training. Frazer Richardson and Jermaine Beckford are fit again after a bout of sickness.

Dennis Wise: "I do not like being up in the stand. The other day there was something I wanted to do and yet Dave Bassett and John Gannon had gone downstairs. I couldn't get to them. I am glad my ban ends on Saturday."

Howson poised to start

http://editorial.jpress.co.uk/web/images/3494558//TH1_E4-1611-50-1611-072213.jpg
ON THE RISE: Jonny Howson looks set for a starting spot against Swindon tomorrow after impressing in midweek.

LEEDS UNITED manager Dennis Wise looks set to return to a more familiar line-up when the Whites take on his former club Swindon Town at Elland Road tomorrow.
Wise says the sickness bug which had affected the club earlier in the week has now cleared, meaning full-back Frazer Richardson, midfielder David Prutton and striker Jermaine Beckford should all start.
Meanwhile, Jonny Howson looks set to be rewarded with a place in the starting line-up possibly alongside Andy Hughes after a fine display against Bury in the midweek home defeat in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy.
Goalkeeper Casper Ankergren, full-back Jamie Clapham and striker Tresor Kandol should also be in the side as Leeds look to bounce back from their setback against the Shakers.
With a rash of injuries in midfield to Alan Thompson (calf), Ian Westlake (broken toe), Radostin Kishishev (hamstring) and Jonathan Douglas (hamstring), winger Filipe Da Costa starts a three-match ban for his red card against Bury while on loan striker Mark De Vries and fellow frontman Leon Constantine, a scorer in midweek look set to be on the bench.

Town who are managed by former Sheffield Wednesday boss Paul Sturrock are without skipper Ady Williams (knee) ex-Huddersfield defenders Sam Collins (stomach strain) and Jamie Vincent (calf), full-back Jack Smith (shoulder) and midfielder Craig Easton (ankle).

Leeds United from: Ankergren, Richardson, Clapham, Heath, Marques, Prutton, Howson, Hughes, Carole, Kandol, Beckford, De Vries, Constantine, Lucas, Parker, Huntington, Weston.

Tar ingen sjanse i dag.

Patience is the key for Leeds United

Dennis Wise

LEEDS UNITED boss Dennis Wise is urging the fans to be patient as expectations continue to grow at Elland Road.
With a third of the season gone, United's superb form has seen them wipe out the 15-point deduction imposed on them by the Football League thanks to 12 victories and two draws in their 15 League One games so far.
But a first league defeat at Carlisle, an FA Cup draw against Hereford United and a midweek Johnstone's Paint Trophy exit at the hands of another League Two side Bury has led to suggestions Leeds' form has hit a "sticky patch".
But Wise, manager of the month in August and September, is having none of it.
He said: "One win in four – no it is not a sticky patch.
"People thought when we got beaten at Carlisle that we would be in trouble, but we bounced back and beat Bournemouth and are still in the FA Cup.
"Okay we got knocked out of Johnstone's Paint Trophy which is not the end of the world and are in a comfortable position in the league where we are capable of catching the top six, so I am pleased with things so far.
"I think we have done it (wiped out the deduction) very quickly and it is not the end of the world if we don't get into the top six over the next couple of months.
"But it counts when it comes to next February, March and April so I think you have got to look at that then."

Should United be successful in their FA Cup replay with Hereford United on Tuesday, the club will take on Hartlepool United on Sunday December 2 (kick-off 2pm).
United would have looked to play the game on the Saturday but with all three West Yorkshire clubs at home and the club's involvement still to be decided, Leeds have agreed to the switch to assist West Yorkshire Police.
The league fixture with Port Vale on December 4 will not be rescheduled.

WILLIAMS UNSURPRISED BY LEEDS' RISE UNDER WISE

Few people got to know the real Dennis Wise during his short time as manager of Swindon Town - but there is one man at the County Ground who knows what makes the Leeds United boss tick better than most.
Swindon defender Ady Williams and Wise were team-mates at Coventry before the former Chelsea and Wimbledon midfielder called on his old friend to become part of a planned promotion charge at the start of his five-month stay at the County Ground.
Who better, then, to provide an insight into the man who didn't stick around long enough to endear himself fully to Swindon fans?
Williams became the defensive bedrock of a side that stormed to the top of League Two with a six-game winning run at the start of the campaign and laid the foundations for a successful promotion and return to League One at the first attempt.
Knowing Wise as he does, it is of little surprise to Williams that his former boss and colleague has guided his new club out of the traps quickly this season.
An unbeaten run of 13 games wiped out a Football League-imposed 15-point handicap for going into administration and has seen Leeds move to within one place of the play-off zone.
"Wisey is a winner; an original crazy gang member from the old Wimbledon days," Williams said. "He was brought up on the importance of team spirit and morale. You want a man like that in the dressing room and in the trenches alongside you when things aren't going so well.
"He wants to win, whether he is playing at Wembley or in a five-a-side on the training ground.
"I am not surprised at the start they have made and it will be a tough game for us."
Wise was unable to prevent the fallen giants from suffering the ignominy of relegation from the Championship last season, but few people, Williams among them, would have bet against the dogged Londoner hauling the Yorkshire club out of the relegation mire after his appointment.
"That Leeds were relegated was a bit of a surprise," Williams admitted. "When confidence is low, though, football is unforgiving and you tend not to get the rub of the green.
"Leeds shouldn't be in this division at all and hopefully they will be one of the teams, along with ourselves, that goes up this season."
Wise's exit from the County Ground just 17 games and five months into his tenure could lead to abuse from away fans today, and Williams says it was not just supporters who were left disappointed at the manager's departure.
He added: "It was disappointing for the players because he brought many of us to the club and we didn't get that long to work with him.
"Football is football: it is a ruthless game. People come and go and I am just pleased that we replaced him with Paul Sturrock - a manager of fine calibre."
Williams had a brief spell as caretaker manager as a result of Wise's departure, but although the experience was short-lived - home defeats at the hands of Lincoln and Hereford followed - Williams said: "I loved the experience and wouldn't have changed a thing, except maybe the results.
"The most hectic thing was trying to keep fit and play as well as managing the side. You can't do that because you lose that focus you need as a player with all the other things that are on your mind."
While people thought Wise would be a hard act to follow, Swindon's appointment of Sturrock was seen as a real coup - particularly by the players. "Wisey had that aura and presence about him but hadn't really established himself as a manager," Williams said.
"Paul Sturrock has a wealth of experience and a very impressive CV. He has been promoted many times in his career and that was a very important appointment to carry on the good work that Wisey had started.
"The football club has moved on even further under the new manager."
A victory over the old manager at Elland Road would certainly go some way to backing up that claim.
"We are all looking forward to the challenge," said Williams. "We are all determined to make a statement by going to the biggest club in the division and getting an away win."

Constantine set to keep his place
Leeds striker Leon Constantine is expected to retain his place in Dennis Wise's starting line-up for the visit of Swindon on Saturday.

Jermaine Beckford is still feeling the effects of the illness which forced him to miss the midweek Johnstone's Paint Trophy defeat to Bury, so Constantine is likely to partner Tresor Kandol.

Mark De Vries, back for a second loan spell at Elland Road, played alongside Constantine against Bury and offers manager Dennis Wise a further option.

Frazer Richardson could return after also being laid low by illness, while captain Alan Thompson came through unscathed after a 90-minute run-out with the reserves in midweek.

Fellow midfielder Andrew Hughes has returned to full training, but Leeds will be without Jonathan Douglas.

Douglas was expected to have joined up with the Republic of Ireland squad, but will miss out this weekend due to a muscle strain.

Radostin Kishishev is making good progress in his recovery from a similar injury sustained in his first training session at Elland Road after returning for a second loan spell

ALJOFREE NEEDS LITTLE MOTIVATION

Swindon Town defender Hasney Aljofree needs little motivation to lead his side to three points against Leeds at Elland Road this afternoon.
While Robins fans will be hoping their team put one over on former boss Dennis Wise, Aljofree has another incentive driving him on to do well in Yorkshire.
The Manchester-born centre-back is a staunch fan of Leeds' bitter rivals Manchester United and has seen first-hand the hostility that exists between the two clubs.
Aljofree said: "It is a massive game for us and there is obviously a bit of spice with the old manager being involved.
"It is a particularly good one for me, though, being a Manc and a staunch United fan for my whole life. I have been part of the rivalry between the two clubs since I have been five or six years old."
But Aljofree has pledged not to let feelings and emotions ruin his day on the grand old stage that is Elland Road.
"It is added spice but it is a game of football and once I cross the white line it will just be about doing well for Swindon Town," he added.
"It is the sort of stage that all players want to play on. We have players here who have performed at a higher level and will be able to handle the cauldron-like atmosphere."
That atmosphere could work in Swindon's favour if they can keep the hosts at bay during the early stages.
"The pressure is on them because their fans expect them to win by three or four every week," Aljofree added. "The Leeds players have to perform while we will be able to enjoy it.
"We have to be tight and strong in the early stages and then we will have a chance. If they don't score as the game goes on their supporters will get agitated and that will work in our favour."
Aljofree is expected to be partnered by Chris Blackburn at the heart of defence, in the absence of Jerel Ifil.

Manager Paul Sturrock is already without Ady Williams (knee), Jamie Vincent (calf) and goalkeeper Phil Smith (groin). On-loan striker Simon Cox is available again after Reading prevented him from taking part in last weekend's FA Cup win over Wycombe Wanderers.

Swindon (from): Brezovan, J Smith, Blackburn, Tozer, Aljofree, Comminges, Zaaboub, Roberts, McGovern, Adams, Peacock, Easton, Pook, Corr, Paynter, Cox, Sturrock.

No regrets as Wise prepares for visit from his former club

A FEW months after swapping the rolling hills of Wiltshire for the battleground that was Elland Road, Dennis Wise could have been forgiven for wondering what he had done.
Swindon Town, the team he had forsaken to take charge of Leeds United, had built on the encouraging start achieved under Wise to remain in the hunt for automatic promotion.
His successor at the County Ground, Paul Sturrock, was also hugely popular with Swindon fans, just as Wise had been in his brief but successful 17-game stint in charge.
In contrast to the success story he had left behind, Wise was presiding over a club in meltdown. A split dressing room was one of just a multitude of problems facing the United manager as a club who just a few years earlier had been among the Premiership elite careered towards relegation.
Not only that, Wise had to contend with an openly hostile Elland Road crowd so it would have been perfectly understandable if, at some stage, he had harboured a few regrets over opting to leave Swindon in late October.
However, ahead of today's meeting between the two clubs, the Leeds manager insisted: "It was nice at Swindon but I have never regretted moving here. This is a big club. We knew it would be hard when we arrived because the club was not in a nice situation.
"We knew the players were not a nice group of players. We knew things needed to be sorted out. That is why we came here, we like trouble.
"I knew I would get stick, but I also knew it would not be the first or last time I get it. We had difficult times but we are over them."
Wise also insists he did not take lightly the decision to quit the County Ground after just a few months. "When I was at Swindon, I was offered another job that was (with a club) in a higher division but I did not take it. I was not interested. This was different because it is Leeds United.
"I also came here because of Ken Bates and my relationship with him. He needed some help so I came here.
"Everyone knows where this club can go and what the fans are like. It is a massive club. It is a place to build something."
Wise, who faced former club Millwall at Elland Road just three weeks ago, is looking forward to today's game even though he expects to be on the end of some abuse from the 1,800 Swindon fans due at Elland Road.
He said: "I enjoyed my time there. We were involved in 15 (league) games and got 31 points. We set a good base down there with the start we had and the pre-season the players went through.
"It was good to work with those players. Obviously, a bigger thing came along and it was a big opportunity so we took it. That is what football is like.
"I hope the fans do not give me too much stick, but I suppose they will. That is football.
"It will be a tough game as Swindon have some good players – Jerel Ifill, Jack Smith, Christian Roberts, Lee Peacock.
"They play slightly more direct (now). That is the way Mr Sturrock likes to play. So we know what is coming. I will also have to change a couple of our set-plays as some of their lads will know them."
Leeds return to League One action today after back-to-back cup games against opposition from the bottom division. A draw at Hereford United in the FA Cup first round followed by a defeat at home to Bury in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy may have raised hopes around the country that United have, finally, suffered a blip in form but Wise remains in a focused mood.
The United manager, who today completes a three-game ban from the dugout, said: "It is not a sticky patch. Unfortunately, we are out of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy but are still in the A Cup and still comfortable in the league. If this is my sticky patch, then I am happy with it.
"We have to push on. If I am totally honest, we have got where we are very quickly. It was not expected to be done this quickly.
"It will not be the end of the world if we do not get in the top six or top two in the next two months. But it will count from February onwards."

Duo set Swindon 'on way again'

SWINDON TOWN captain Ady Williams believes the impact Dennis Wise made in his brief reign at the County Ground should not be underestimated.
The former Chelsea midfielder was a surprise appointment by the Robins in the summer of 2006 after deciding to end his playing career.
Swindon had just been relegated to the basement division for the first time in 20 years and were at a low ebb. Cue the arrival of Wise and assistant Gus Poyet who, within weeks, had changed the atmosphere surrounding the club to such an extent that the Robins went on to win their opening six league games.
It seemed a successful season lay ahead for all parties only for Wise and Poyet to decide in October to accept Ken Bates's offer to take charge at Elland Road.
Swindon fans were annoyed by Wise's departure but club captain Williams believes he still deserves a special place in the Wiltshire outfit's history.
He said: "The appointment of Dennis after relegation was a really important step by the club because you could tell it needed something to lift the club again.
"He had an aura about him the moment he came into the club. When he came into a room you knew everyone would listen.
"It was a brilliant appointment at the time. They set us on our way again."
The visitors' allocation of 1,800 tickets for today's trip to Elland Road was snapped up quickly earlier this month and it seems likely that Wise could be in for some stick from the travelling fans.
Williams, who misses today's trip through injury, said: "Dennis Wise gets booed wherever he goes.
"It was the same when he was a player. I played against him a couple of times and he was an absolute nuisance.
"He knew all the little tricks and all the little fouls, but off the field he is a real gent.
"I know all the Swindon players respected Dennis as a person and will all look forward to shaking his hand before and after the game.
"Town fans will make it hard for him, of course they will. But I think deep down they know what a good job he did when he was at Swindon.
"I expect I will even give him some banter from the bench."
