Sunderland eyeing Newcastle striker Smith

Sunderland are reported to be lining up a swoop on arch rivals Newcastle by offering £4million for Alan Smith in the summer.
Roy Keane has plan A and plan B depending on what division the Black Cats are playing their football in next season and Smith is on his wanted list should they beat the drop.
Keane knows all about the player following his time at Manchester United and the Black Cats boss wants to sign him as an out-and-out striker despite him being deployed as a midfielder at Newcastle.

Daily Mail melder at "Keegan told to start winning, or it's a role upstairs", og gir han to kamper frist til å få sin første seier, ellers fjernes han som manager og sparkes oppover til en eller annen direktørstilling.

Videre meldes det at:"Dennis Wise, recently appointed executive director (football), would be the obvious choice to take over after his success at Leeds and with Millwall, whom he guided to the FA Cup Final and into Europe."

Wise snubbed Newcastle match for family outing

Newcastle United executive director Dennis Wise snubbed last week's 3-0 reverse at Liverpool to go on a family outing, it has been revealed.
The Mail on Sunday says Wise was spotted at the matinee performance of The Lion King at the Lyceum Theatre, near London's Covent Garden, last Saturday afternoon and the club have asked for an explanation from the man brought in as executive director (football) on a salary of £1.5million a year.
Newcastle have declined to comment on Wise's visit to the musical. But senior figures at the club are believed to have been unaware of his whereabouts last Saturday.

Livermore - now at Oldham.
LIVERMORE SET FOR TIGRES EXIT
David Livermore looks as though he has played his last game for Hull due to an appearance clause in his contract. The 28-year-old midfielder moved to Oldham on deadline-day despite appearing regularly for Phil Brown's play-off-chasing side prior to his switch. Livermore, whose contract is due to expire in the summer, would have been automatically eligible for a further year on his contract providing he reached 25 appearances for the Tigers - he left for Oldham having made 23.

LIVERMORE RETURNS TO LATICS
Hull midfielder David Livermore has returned to League One club Oldham to continue his loan spell after recovering from injury.
The 27-year-old has been receiving treatment from the Tigers for the hip flexor injury which has forced him to miss the Latics' four games.
Livermore has made seven first-team starts for John Sheridan's men since joining the club in January but has been sidelined since the 3-0 win over Port Vale on March 1.
A statement on Oldham's official website said: "Manager John Sheridan will run the rule over the player this week before making a decision on his availability for the game against Millwall on Saturday." (PA)

Mystery is a welcome one for McManus
Allan McManus admits he is delighted to have Jody Morris as a team-mate - even though he can't fathom how the former Chelsea and Leeds United midfielder has ended up at St Johnstone.
The Perth side travel to Paisley tonight to face St Mirren in a Scottish Cup quarter-final replay after dominating the first game at McDiarmid Park, and McManus believes having Morris in their side could swing the tie the first division side's way.
The 33-year-old former Hearts defender said: "It is unbelievable having a player like Jody here. I'm completely baffled by it, to be honest. Each day I ask him what he's doing here. He has played at the very top, winning medals with Chelsea and playing in Europe. And he's a nice guy.

Jacob Burns has been released from his contract at Poland's Wisla Krakow.

Australia boss Verbeek: Burns was p***** off missing out!

A dithering fourth match official prevented midfielder Jacob Burns from winning an Australia cap in Wednesday's 0-0 World Cup qualifier draw in China.
Burns, of Romania's Unirea Urziceni, was due to get on in injury-time, but was prevented from doing so by the fourth official before the final whistle was blown.
Afterwards, Australia coach Pim Verbeek laughed: "I've got real competition for places now. Even just before the end against China, I was willing to bring on Jacob Burns in midfield just to save a little time but he couldn't get on and was really p****d off - and I liked that.
"It showed how much these boys want to compete and what I have seen now of the so-called fringe players, I like very much.
"We will need our squad in its entirety in June because that's going to decide everything. We will need extremely fit players who can handle extreme conditions."

No new Liverpool contract for crocked Kewell

There will be no new contract for Liverpool attacker Harry Kewell in the summer, it has been revealed.
The Times says Kewell will be allowed to leave Anfield when his contract expires in June. Bolton Wanderers, Portsmouth and Wigan Athletic have been linked with the winger.
Kewell was again injured this week while on international duty with Australia. Despite the consistent moaning from the Australian media over his commitment to the green and gold, this week's setback is the third Kewell has suffered with the national team, having also been injured in last year's Asian Cup and the 2006 World Cup campaign.

Football League honours Armfield
Former England captain Jimmy Armfield will receive the prestigious Outstanding Contribution honour at the Football League awards ceremony.
The 72-year-old BBC broadcaster won 43 England caps and made a record 568 appearances for Blackpool.
Armfield then managed Bolton and Leeds, who he led to the 1975 European Cup final, and has been a respected BBC analyst since 1978.
Jimmy Armfield: My soft spot for Leeds United
In London on Sunday evening, Jimmy Armfield was honoured for half-a-century of involvement in English football with a special award from the Football League.
Armfield was the man charged with redressing the disorderly regime of Brian Clough at Leeds United in the 1970s, and for that alone he deserved a medal.
But recognition of his 54 years within the sport was not something he especially craved.
"Throughout my life I've been paid to do something I enjoy," he said. "That makes me privileged."

Arise Sir Jimmy....?

An online petition designed to secure a knighthood for the former Leeds manager Jimmy Armfield has been started.
The 72-year-old, who to this day is the only manager to have guided Leeds to a European Cup final, spent his entire playing career with Blackpool and made over 500 appearances for the Seasiders between 1954 and 1971.
During that time he was capped by England 43 times and was a member of the 1966 World Cup squad.
Shortly after hanging up his boots, Armfield took over the reins at Bolton and guided the Trotters to the old Division Three championship in 1973.
A little over a year later he arrived at Elland Road as the replacement for Brian Clough.
Armfield was responsible for rebuilding Don Revie's title-winning side of 1974, a task which he achieved with some success. Under his stewardship Leeds never finished outside of the top ten, qualified for the UEFA Cup and reached FA and League Cup semi-finals.
However, with the Leeds board demanding greater success, Armfield was sacked at the end of the 1977/78 season and was replaced by Jock Stein.
Armfield has since established himself as one of BBC Radio Five Live's most incisive pundits and as well as being handed the OBE in 2004 he was presented, along with the other squad members not to play in the 1966 World Cup final, with a winners' medal in 2007.
Traditionally, petitions have been sent to the Prime Minister by post or delivered to Number 10 in person but in the internet age it's easy to create and sign petitions on the PM's website too.
I'm not suggesting Armfield is an undeserving cause but it's hard to imagine anyone bothering to travel to Westminster to make such a presentation on his behalf.
Furthermore, supporters of Spurs, Liverpool and Nottingham Forest will argue Bill Nicholson, Bob Paisley and Clough would be more worthy (posthumous) recipients.

Nevertheless, if you think Armfield should become 'Sir James Christopher Armfield' then you need to visit the following address: http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/jimmyarmfield/

Wise escapes criminal charges
Dennis Wise will not face criminal charges after he chased and grabbed a teenager he believed was throwing stones at his car, police have said.
The former Leeds boss, now Newcastle executive director of football, faced questioning by police following an incident early on New Year's Day when his luxury car was pelted by a gang of youths.
Wise, a spiky and combative midfielder in his playing days, jumped out of his month-old Range Rover and caught and chased one teenager at around 1am in the Potternewton area of Leeds.
It was believed Wise could not hold on to the youngster when other youths intervened, and the then Leeds boss got back in his car.
The 41-year-old was travelling with his mother-in-law, his heavily pregnant wife Claire and their two young children.
They had been out for a meal in Leeds city centre.
Police were alerted by the family of a 13-year-old boy, who was believed to have been grabbed, and all parties were interviewed.
Police investigated an allegation of assault, and also criminal damage to the car.
No-one was arrested.
Neither the player nor the boy will now face further action.
It was believed Wise did not want to press charges, despite about £1,000 of damage being caused to his motor.
A West Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said: "In relation to an incident that occurred in Potternewton, Leeds, just before 1am on New Year's Day, all parties were interviewed by the police and following consideration of all the information, police decided that no further action be taken against any party."
