auren

Marching on together!

Carole - Douglas - Sweeney - Sorsa
Elding - Ba

Elding scoret begge. Douglas spilte 90 minutter.

Douglas on Leeds comeback trail

Leeds United midfielder Jonathan Douglas continued his comeback from injury on Tuesday in the reserves' 2-2 draw with Sheffield Wednesday.
It was the 26-year-old's first full match since sustaining a knee injury against Walsall in December.

It is unclear whether he will be ready for first-team action when Leeds host the Saddlers on Saturday.

Ivory Coast international striker Georges Ba, who is on trial at Elland Road, also played in the match.

Enoch Showunmi, who turned down a move to Elland Road in January, opened the scoring for Wednesday, before Anthony Elding equalised from the penalty spot.

Elding, who got his first senior goal for Leeds in the defeat to Cheltenham earlier this month, then put United in front, before Showunmi grabbed his second to level the scores.

Roy

Off. hjemmesiden mener lørdagens kamp kommer for tidlig, og da gjør den vel det. Men han blir viktig i PLAY-OFF  :o ;D

Just back from the ressies and here is my thoughts.

2-2 prob just about a fair result, though Lucas did gift them there equaliser.

As part as players goes, Sorsa was the best Leeds player on the pitch and Carole was dreadful i am afriad to say. Ba looked pretty decent and Elding to his goals well, one being a penalty. As for Douglas he is no where near 1st team fitness, he needs at least a couple more games in the ressies but we may not have that choice. Other players of note, i thought sweeney was no existent, sheehan didnt do much and Gardner did ok.

By the way Macca and Staunton were both in attendance.

Owls Reserves 2 - 2 Leeds Reserves

A return to the Look Local Stadium for the Owls second string tonight after the last home game was played at Hillsborough against Barnsley.
The team sheet revealed the Owls' team to be Burch; Simek; Gilbert; Wallwork; McMenamin; Kay; Watson; Bolder; Clarke; Showunmi and Boden. L**ds featured Owls' hero David Lucas in goal and Jonathan Douglass at 4. Number 10, according to the team sheet, is called Georges Depreyba Ba!
As it got going, this was by miles the most competitive reserves game I've seen this season and the first half was a pleasure to watch. (Miles better than the previous first team fixture, for starters!) An early good ball was played in by Showunmi across the 6yd box but no-one got onto it. Two lovely sights were apparent to your correspondent's peepers: Clarke, '9', and Simek, '2'. End to end moves saw Bolder's hard cross into a crowded box played out for a speedy L**ds break which ended with their 11 firing wildly wide when the 6yd box was packed. A good block by James Kay was soon followed by an absolute stonker of a shot by Enoch, which from 25 yards went through Lucas' hands at full stretch and into the bottom corner. Well, if they all back off, that's what he can do!
L**ds put a completely free header wide at a corner as the defence stood and watched. Kay was playing at C.B. with Liam McMenamin. Both are normally full backs and not big enough for this position. (Kay plays F.B. for the Academy but often wing for the reserves. C.B???) Leon Clarke won applause for tracking back and blocking a pass out. Bolder was doing a decent impression of a terrier. Enoch's cross to his partner up front produced a poor miss from Leon. Boden was on the left wing: definitely not his position. Liam was quick and aggressive at C.B. but very lightweight. L**ds 11 proved his earlier shot was no fluke when his next one went for a throw in level with the 'D'. They then missed another free header from a free kick. Clarke lost a close range chance through poor control.
The second half started with L**ds setting off like a house on fire and Wednesday right back on their heels. Burch produced a super block from a long-range thunderbolt and when their winger took his time and blasted the rebound at the empty goal, Burch leapt up from the ground to parry that too. Tremendous shot stopping from the big goalie! The L**ds right winger and right fullback were both having tremendous second halves, full of pace and trickery on the ball and showing Gilbert and Boden up badly - a left side line-up that never looked like working. Next came a terrific high, diving catch from Burch from a long, accurate drive.
After about an hour, Wednesday took off Clarke and Bolder and replaced them with Rocky Lekaj (norsk gutt) and Todd Wood, a young ginger striker. Boden went up front, (nominally: he plays deep), and Watson left the wing to take up a central position. Leon Clarke headed for the dressing room with what looked like a bag of ice cubes in his hand, although I hadn't seen him limping or anything. This half continued to be all L**ds. In a rare Owls break, Wallwork turned and cleverly curled a good shot in, but over. McMenamin was then apparently guilty of a foul and a penalty was awarded, which came as a complete shock to me as I never suspected any foul and couldn't see the white lines up the other end in the glare of the floodlights. The ball was put into the net most impressively, even though inveterate penalty saver Burch went full length the right way.
The Owls were right up against it now and Burch performed a fabulous save from their 7. The Owls had no 'out ball' and every pass to Rocky was a waste of possession. L**ds had a great long shot athletically tipped over by Burch, who must have been thinking that he was playing them on his own by now! Finally they beat him with a goal from a freak rebound off a clearance, straight back to the forward's feet. Even then he got his body in the way, but it still went in.
Rocky lost more good possession and a terrific Enoch run down the left was ended by an equally good tackle. Wednesday were gradually getting at them now, with about ten minutes to go, and Showunmi showed great ability to jump and chest one down on the edge of the box, swivel and lash a shot in that looped over the bar. A through ball for the lone forward went straight through to Lucas but Enoch raced to close him down. He didn't pick it up so presumably it had been played back to him. Poor old 'Lukes' blasted the clearance straight at the forward, who controlled it in time to stroll coolly around the desperately diving keeper, trot on unchallenged and then stop and literally walk it in to the empty net. 2-2.
All there was time for after that was a tremendous scramble on the L**ds line that somehow didn't end in an undeserved winning goal for the Owls. Somehow Lucas missed it and it ended up bouncing high by the crossbar, down onto the goal line where it was scuffed a few yards clear, giving a golden chance to young Wood, who steamed in and put everything into his shot from five yards, missed the ball entirely and in then falling on it, nudged it for a goal kick.
The final whistle brought the curtain down on an entertaining but rather one-sided encounter played in still, cold conditions high on a Pennine hillside. Ooh, my toes!
