We are building a team :-)

Her bekreftet han sitt nice-guy image.

Amazing interview. What Becchio said...

Luciano, congratulations. How does it feel to commit your future to Leeds?

Thank you very much. I'm very happy for sign. I want to stay here because I like the Leeds United. I like the city, I love the fans. You know...

The fans love you don't they?

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Of course...

Congratulations. Where do you see the club going in the future now? Do you think Premier League?

Yeah, of course. We have to go to Premiership. If we won this, this year, it is good.

WHAT GRAYSON SAID:

Simon, you've finally tied down your top scorer Luciano Becchio. How happy are you with that?

I'm delighted because, not just through the goals he has scored this year and his work ethic, he's a great lad to work with and we only feel that he will get better. We ran the risk of him getting out of contract in the summer but obviously we worked very hard and I'm delighted to get the negotiations concluded and he has signed a contract to keep him at the football club for a long time to come. That can only be great news for the club because you want to keep your best players and certainly Luciano is one of them. I'm delighted that he sees his future here instead of somewhere else.

It has been a remarkable story for him since he came here.

Yeah, coming out of the second or third tier of Spanish football but the fans love him to bits. There are players who are talented who fans like but deep down, fans love players who give their all for the club and the shirt that they wear and he's getting his just rewards with the goals that he is scoring this year. He's enjoying it, he loves the city of Leeds and ultimately he loves the fans and it's great that we've secured his signature again.

He has been a key part of your plans, not only this season but obviously now in future seasons. If things do go well and maybe the team get promoted you must think he can make the step up?

We've had a few approaches for him from clubs in the last few months about trying to do a deal for him and we said no. We have made our stance clear that we don't want to sell him and we want him to be part of this football club and we seen him as a player who can certainly take the club forward. We have got a group of players here now who we think are very capable of achieving something this year and this is a major boost for everybody connected with the club when we've had the result that we've had today and to round it off with this is the icing on the cake. He's a real loveable lad and a favourite of the crowd and the players as well.

Hoping that others now follow?

Well that's down to individuals, it's down to the club to decide which stance that we go with. It just shows the commitment of Luciano, he's happy here and we'll just have to see where things go. Two out of the four have signed and we'll just see where we go with the others.

Tell me - I've got to know
Tell me - Tell me before I go
Does that flame still burn, does that fire still glow
Or has it died out and melted like the snow
Tell me  Tell me

Leeds United: Becchio deal adds icing to the cake

Published Date: 20 December 2010
LEEDS UNITED striker Luciano Becchio has ended speculation over his future by signing a long-term contract which manager Simon Grayson described as proof of the club's growing ambition.

Becchio completed a perfect afternoon on Saturday by agreeing a new three-and-a-half year deal shortly after the victory over QPR that carried Leeds into the Championship's automatic promotion places.

The sudden agreement came as a surprise following comments from Grayson earlier in the week which indicated that negotiations would run into January, but the deal ended fears among supporters that the Argentinian striker would quit Elland Road.

The 26-year-old's previous deal was due to expire at the end of the season, raising the possibility that Leeds would lose Becchio on a free transfer as they had Jermaine Beckford last season, but his new contract ties him to United until the summer of 2014.
His 12 goals this season have established him as the club's top scorer and have been central to the form which moved Leeds to within three points of the division's summit.

Grayson said: "It was vital that we secured his services after losing Jermaine Beckford last season. I believe this shows the ambition we have as a football club.

Rigid

"It's a major boost for everyone, particularly as there was considerable interest in him."

Nottingham Forest were one of the clubs firmly linked with Becchio but the extension of his contract has ended any prospect of United listening to offers for him next month.

Becchio is three goals short of reaching 50 for Leeds, two-and-a-half years after he joined the club from Spanish third division side Merida UD, and he produced his first hat-trick in a 3-1 win over Bristol City last month.

"I'm very happy to sign the contract and stay," Becchio said. "I love the fans, we're doing well and we want to get to the Premier League. I want to be part of that."

Becchio contributed to a strong attacking display against Rangers but Grayson focused attention on the rigid performance of his defence amid much disruption.
