Leeds United next manager live updates: Heckingbottom emerges as top target as Wolf and Silva linked - Leed...
Leeds United are stepping up their hunt for a replacement for Thomas Christiansen after opting to sack their manager last night.
Christiansen was relieved of his duties following a 35-match stint in charge, spanning eight months since his arrival at Elland Road back in June last year.
And Leeds are now intent on making a swift appointment in order to have a new man in place for the trip to Sheffield United next Saturday lunchtime.
There have already been plenty of names mentioned in connection with the vacancy, with Paul Heckingbottom now heading the list of contenders to replace Christiansen.
Steve McClaren had headed the bookies' odds this morning but is now as far out as 16/1, with Gordon Strachan briefly occupying the No.1 slot before Barnsley boss Heckingbottom was installed as favourite.

Heckingbottom 'facing big decision'
The Independent say Leeds want to finalise a deal for Paul Heckingbottom this week but the Barnsley boss faces a big decision.
They claim the compensation clause in his new contract would be no obstacle to any move and that LUFC will offer him a ‘lucrative financial package’ to try and secure his services.
However, despite appreciating the chance to manage a club the size of Leeds, they say he is extremely grateful for the opportunity he was given at his boyhood club.
We reported earlier the club want to make an appointment within 48 hours so the hierarchy will want an answer either way very soon.
