49'ers øker investeringen i Leeds United

San Francisco 49ers Look to Increase Stake in Leeds United
The N.F.L. team, which has owned a piece of the soccer team since 2018, is in talks to increase its investment now that Leeds is returning to the Premier League.

Leeds United sealed its place in the Premier League next season on July 17.

By Tariq Panja July 31, 2020 Updated 5:08 p.m. ET

LONDON — It took the San Francisco 49ers seven years to turn their interest in owning a piece of an English soccer team into reality. Now, two years after buying a 10 percent stake in Leeds United, the 49ers’ owners are looking to increase their investment, and their involvement, in the storied club that two weeks ago won promotion to the Premier League.
Executives representing the 49ers and Leeds United’s majority owner, Andrea Radrizzani, are in talks about increasing the N.F.L. team’s share, according to Paraag Marathe, the 49ers executive who has sat on the soccer team’s board since San Francisco’s initial investment in 2018.
“It’s something that we are absolutely hoping to do,” Marathe said in a telephone interview.

Any new investment, though, would only further entrench American football team owners in the board rooms of England’s Premier League, the world’s most popular and lucrative domestic soccer competition. The Glazer family, which owns the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, has controlled Manchester United since 2005; Arsenal is backed by the Los Angeles Rams owner E. Stanley Kroenke; and Fulham, which is one win away from clinching a return to the Premier League, is owned by Shahid Khan, who also owns the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Under Radrizzani, an Italian sports media tycoon, Leeds United has long searched for new investment. Radrizzani has been in talks with Qatar’s sovereign wealth fund, which already owns the French superclub Paris St.-Germain, but those discussions — despite reaching an advanced stage last year — have so far failed to produce a sale.
While the 49ers only hold a minority share, they have hardly been passive investors in Leeds. Top executives, including Marathe and Jed York, the 49ers’ chief executive, had been regular visitors to Leeds’ Elland Road stadium until the coronavirus pandemic shut down global travel. Marathe said he and York had traveled to Leeds, a city in northern England, once every five to six weeks.

“It obviously had fallen on hard times under multiple ownership groups,” Marathe said of Leeds, a storied club that has been troubled by financial problems and on-field struggles since tumbling out of the Premier League in 2004.
“But the brand equity is still there, the fans, and the amount of people that care about that club,” he said. “We just knew that not only do they belong in the Premier League, but if they got to the Premier League, that the sky’s the limit.”
“The journey isn’t concluded,” he said of the team’s return to England’s top tier. “It’s just beginning.”

The 49ers first took an interest in Leeds United in 2011 when Marathe, the president of 49ers Enterprises, the team’s venture capital division, was scouring the world for sports brands in which the team could invest. In Leeds, he found a team with a long history — a three-time English champion with a passionate fan base in a large city that had no other professional club — and started talks about a relationship. The 49ers did not invest then, but did sign a strategic partnership agreement that largely failed to yield any positive results, according to Marathe.

But the team’s interest in a more direct stake in Leeds remained. By 2015, Marathe had developed a friendship with Radrizzani, who two years later bought Leeds himself. “I said, ‘Wow,’” Marathe recalled saying to Radrizzani shortly after the Italian’s purchase was complete. “‘It’s such a coincidence because I actually love this club and I spent some time around this club.’”

Marathe and Radrizzani speak at least twice a week. And in addition to the regular trips to Leeds, the 49ers regularly share information about their business and processes; when Leeds was beginning the search for its current coach, the 49ers passed on a guide the team used to recruit its current general manager and head coach. Leeds eventually picked Marcelo Bielsa, the charismatic and quirky Argentine who led Leeds back to the Premier League.

The gap in quality — and resources — between the Premier League and the second-tier Championship that Leeds United just won can be significant. Last season’s Championship winner, Norwich City, will return there next season after finishing last in the Premier League this year. Some teams spend heavily to try to become competitive immediately. Others, like Sheffield United, which finished in the top half of the table in its first season back in the top flight, have prospered by relying on the fundamentals that took them there.
Marathe pointed to Sheffield United’s debut season as an example of an approach Leeds might be looking to follow.
“You don’t want to just rush and go high — ‘Every player out now; we’re a Premier League club’ — and buy this and this and this player,” Marathe said. “Sometimes you want to build it organically and thoughtfully.”
Marathe said that, for now, the 49ers remained focused on being patient with their investment — which became far more valuable on July 17, the day Leeds United’s top-flight return was confirmed — rather than on cashing in.

“This is more about continuing the journey than it is about what the multiple on our investment is,” Marathe said.

Leeds' anslåtte minsteinntekt for 20/21-sesongen vil ligge på ca. £140M.

Største sponsordealen i klubbens historie, visstnok.

Big Elland Road change necessary if Leeds United's long term Premier League ambition is to be realised
Leeds United’s ambition will dictate the level of investment they need now that they are a Premier League club.

By Graham Smyth  Friday, 28th August 2020, 11:45 am

Owner Andrea Radrizzani and director of football Victor Orta have both spoken of their desire to see the Whites challenging just below the top six, in time.

Neither have any fanciful ideas of finishing among the big boys just yet - Radrizzani has targetted a three-year minimum stay in the top flight to help them build the necessary foundations to return the club to the upper half of the table, where many feel it rightfully belongs.

Next season is simply about survival, although Marcelo Bielsa and his players might not see it that way.

Shortly after watching his club end their 16-year exile from the top flight, Radrizzani admitted it would take extra finance just to get the club ‘Premier League ready’ and that money was likely to come from his own firm, Aser.

But if they want to progress further, from a lower-table, top-flight side to something more closely resembling the glory days, it will require big changes at Elland Road.

Football finance lecturer Kieran Maguire says the stadium itself is one key to unlocking the door to the region of the promised land Leeds would really like to inhabit.

“How much investment is needed will depend upon what Leeds United want to be,” he told The Yorkshire Evening Post.

“If they want to compete with the top six then they will need investment and an expanded or new stadium because you are competing against Arsenal 60,000, Spurs 60,000, Manchester United 76,000, Manchester City 54,000 going on 60,000, Liverpool 54,000 going on 60,000.

“The only club which hasn’t really invested in its ground is Chelsea and they’re owned by a billionaire.

“If Leeds want to compete for European places then I think some form of investment will be required.

“If you take a look at the matchday income, at £18m that is superb by Championship standards but Manchester United and Arsenal are on £100m from matchdays.

“Those clubs are able to relieve people of cash as soon as they walk through the local station.

“If Leeds want to be contenders they will have to have facilities which can compete with that.”

For now, however, Maguire doesn’t believe Leeds need much more in terms of an influx of cash.

Since his arrival, Radrizzani and his team have managed to create record-breaking turnover and maximised the club’s revenue streams, leveraging the club’s status and history for commercial gain.

As a newly-promoted Premier League side, they signed a kit deal with Adidas and agreed a club-record sponsorship deal with betting firm SBOTOP.

They are well placed to exist in England’s elite tier of football as it stands.

Maguire cites an example of a club Leeds could look to emulate in financial terms, with the potential to overtake them if a stadium expansion were to come to fruition - something the club say will only happen if they have enjoyed a couple of years at least in the division.

“If their ambitions are to be in the pack of the other 14, to have some cup runs then probably relatively minimal investing is required, provided they’re not in a relegation fight then they could quite happily become a mid-tier club,” said Maguire. I work in Liverpool, half the people I work with are Evertonians who might find that quite frustrating. Everton is a good benchmark for what Leeds could potentially become if not surpass because they’re a one-city club.

“Everton themselves are looking to move to a 52,000 capacity stadium. Then they’ve got the benefits of that.”

For all the talk of a potential Qatari takeover last year, Radrizzani and the San Francisco 49ers remain the only players at the table.

There is no real expectation that they will be joined by new partners in the immediate future but, with enough cash to afford the additions Orta and Bielsa feel are necessary - including record signing Rodrigo who is on the verge of completing a deal and centre-half Robin Koch who is close to a move - the money men who helped bankroll Leeds to the Premier League will now look to the football men to keep them there.

Leeds MD Angus Kinnear also reveals in the documentary Andrea Radrizzani personally gave £1.5million each month last season. “At the end of every month, I had to write him an email and I have to request pretty much £1.5million to keep the club running.” #LUFC

So JKA off to Nantes as it appears he is a free agent & no longer an issue for Leeds.
Meanwhile, a charge has been settled on Companies House which indicates that the debt to former owners GFH has been paid. #lufc

Jeg tror Leeds eller Leipzig taper 18 millioner euro her.

Money bag Had a lot of questions about how Leeds United were able to afford a £100m window. So I wrote about it.

- amortised transfer fees
- forward funding deal
- surge in commercial income
- more equity investment likely
- shirt sales to hit 250k this season

Grundig sak fra Phil igjen.

In short:

Match day/training kit sponsors gir oss £10m, årlig

Mange interessante tall her. :)

Money bag Had a lot of questions about how Leeds United were able to afford a £100m window. So I wrote about it.

- amortised transfer fees
- forward funding deal
- surge in commercial income
- more equity investment likely
- shirt sales to hit 250k this season

Grundig sak fra Phil igjen.

In short:

Match day/training kit sponsors gir oss £10, årlig

Mange interessante tall her. :)

Likte dårlig at vi årlig bare mottar 10 pund for match day/ training kit sponsors. ;)

Leeds United expect their retail arm to match Tottenham’s this season. It’s a small step but an example of their potential to grow.

Project Big Picture would have stifled that growth and weakened the chance of them ever threatening the top six.

18.plass på listen over PL_klubbenes eieres kjente finansielle situasjon
18. Andrea Radrizzani - £450m

Italian businessman Radrizzani took full ownership of Leeds United in 2017, taking over from previous incumbent Massimo Cellino.

The 46-year-old’s investment firm Aser Ventures operates predominantly in the sports and media spheres, and owns the Eleven Sports TV channels.

According to Bristol Live, he was worth £450m as of April this year.

The San Francisco 49ers have more than doubled their stake in Leeds to 37 per cent. Club want to use the extra resources to qualify for Europe, redevelop Elland Road and build a new training ground. #lufc

Tommel opp !   Samtidig som at Lampard er "sacked" så ble dette after all en bra mandag

Etter at vi snakket om det her, så har tilbudene haglet alle steder for the Athletic. Beste var 1 pund for første måned.
