I dag Stan Collymore.

Garry Monk is awaking Leeds United from their slumber after more than a decade in the wilderness

Leeds are flying high in the Championship and a return to the Premier League is very much on the cards

Garry Monk isn’t one of the brown-brogued brigade of football managers.
You know the sort â€" who speak endlessly about “philosophy” and end up losing matches in search of a non-existent Holy Grail.

He’s soft-spoken, a thinker â€" and a man who has cut through what needed to be done at Leeds United very quickly.
It’s an oil-tanker of a football club that might not have been heading towards the rocks â€" but the rudder was certainly stuck in one direction â€" and it was going in circles.
Monk clearly understood the dressing room he inherited and has identified with that.

He’s applied the simple basics of Championship football â€" clean sheets, hard work and a bloke up front in Chris Wood, who knows where the net is.
That’s the “philosophy” you need, if you want to make it to the Premier League.
And Leeds United is just awakening from a slumber â€" giving us all a glimpse once more of the force it could be in English football.

I’ve seen the Whites twice this season. I like Pontus Jansson at the back, Monk knows centre-half Kyle Bartley from his days at Swansea.
Liam Bridcutt is honest and Souleyman Doukara is a powerful force in the heart of Leeds’ engine-room.
Just for a change, it’s all systems go at Elland Road.

There’s no gossip about Massimo Cellino’s latest stunt. Ownership issues have been sorted out. The fans aren’t being marginalised by sky-high ticket prices and the players appear to be singing off the same hymn-sheet.
It’s a potent mix. Contrast this with Nottingham Forest â€" where I went last week. The crowd at the City Ground was flat, there’s a moany atmosphere, the owner is getting it in the neck from the punters.
There’s none of that at Leeds â€" the club is on the way back.
Obviously, the eyes of the football world will be on them today to see if Gander Green Lane will play host to another FA Cup upset.
Obviously, it won’t be on the same scale as when Colchester United famously killed a true footballing giant in the early 70s.

Sutton United will attempt to pull off a huge FA Cup upset against Leeds in the fourth round on Sunday (Photo: Mike Hewitt)
Defeat at Sutton should not derail Leeds. But it may knock their confidence, placing a seed of doubt in players’ minds.
I played against Shrewsbury and Rochdale in cup competitions for Liverpool â€" and I was more nervous against them than ever I was pulling on that red shirt when Manchester United were in town.
Those matches take care of themselves. And every manager and player knows it.
But lose in the cup competition and it could have a negative effect â€" and that’s why Monk needs to tell his players to forget surroundings and to treat this as they would any Championship fixture.
It really does depend on the manner in which Leeds United approach this.

Leeds must approach their clash with Sutton as if it is a Championship game (Photo: Getty Images)
If they are in the zone after 25 minutes, Monk won’t need to worry. He should be able to tell by then how the match is going to pan out.
It’s not a must-not-lose. It’s not even a must-win.
But Leeds United have a good thing going at the moment. It would be typical of the club of old to allow nerves to creep in and make it a difficult afternoon.
The chemistry is working at Leeds United at the moment.

As per the club anthem, the Whites are Marching on Together and, if they can negotiate this banana-skin safely, there’s no reason why it should not lead them back into the promised land.

Leeds United MUST be in the Premier League - and Garry Monk is the man to take them there
Our man Robbie Fowler says Monk is the right man to bring the good times back to his former side

I don't know Garry Monk , but it turns out I did introduce myself to him rather rudely when we first met.
It was back in 1999 when he was a kid at Southampton, hoping to carve out a Premier League career.

I genuinely don’t remember â€" really sorry about that, Garry! â€" but apparently he was marking me that day at Anfield and I happened to score a hat-trick in 25 minutes.
We won 7-1 and I don’t think he played many more times for Saints after that, though I’m pretty sure I can’t take the blame for that one.
I should really thank him because my second that day was also my 100th league goal â€" it was pretty generous of him and the Southampton defence to help me to that landmark.

Leeds are in the promotion mix this season (Photo: Gareth Copley)
I’m going to thank him more seriously, though, for helping put my old club Leeds back into the sporting headlines where they belong, and not in the news columns where the antics of co-owner Massimo Cellino catapulted them so regularly.
A few Leeds fans still have mixed feelings about the way I left Elland Road because of problems surrounding my wages, but most know that was not down to me.
And most know that I think Leeds are a fantastic club who deserve to be in the Premier League because of such passionate, loyal support.

Just look at the crowds they get, even after dropping down the leagues. Even when they’ve been through the worst of times.
I loved my time there.
We had a brilliant, gifted British-based team with a hell of a spirit and camaraderie. It was such a shame that group was broken up because of the financial problems that beset the club.

I remember going top on New Year’s Day in 2002. We had the quality to win the league â€" no doubt about that â€" but it kind of drifted away and just didn’t happen for us.
Yet, what stayed with me was the support. The noise was always deafening and the fans always committed.
The stadium was always sold out and, even when things turned against us, they never stopped coming or stopped believing.
I don’t care whether people think other clubs deserve to be in the Premier League, but I KNOW Leeds do â€" and, in Garry Monk, they have the perfect man to take them there.
He did well at Swansea, but it could have been the end of the line when he didn’t immediately get another job.

Leeds boss Garry Monk will NOT be handed bumper transfer kitty
Some people said it smacked of desperation to accept a job under Cellino, but it has worked out because now we can see the talent he has.
I’m truly happy for him. He has shown real coaching skill in setting Leeds up right, and managerial talent in producing a togetherness within his squad and a belief they can win games.
Now, the Leeds fans are talking about Monk and his team â€" not talking about the owner. And I believe they can go up this season.
Of course, Cellino isn’t just going to go away. If they go up, it won’t be the last we hear of him because it’s clear he doesn’t want to sell until the money is right.

Yet, a club the size of Leeds in the Premier League would surely attract other investors.
They have a history and a support that is bigger than most English clubs, and an entire city right behind them. If Cellini exercises his option to buy back Elland Road, it would be even more attractive.
Monk, as an innovative young manager, would also be an attraction.
He deserves his chance and he deserves promotion too.
It would be some irony if it was at the expense of Swansea.

Sutton are preparing to host Leeds (Photo: Clive Rose)

Leeds have a tricky game at Sutton in the FA Cup today and it will be made even trickier by the focus on promotion because he’ll want to rest some key players.
But even if they slip up, I don’t think a single fan would blame Monk â€" if he went on to deliver promotion to the Premier League.
Given what he inherited at Elland Road, that would be some feat.

Silvestri, Coyle, Ayling, McKay, Berardi, Phillips, O'Kane, Dallas, Roofe, Wilks - Antonsson

Mon ikke Denton starter?

Flere store klubber røk ut i går.
