Leeds United have agreed to sign Japan international midfielder Yosuke Ideguchi from Gamba Osaka. Will join in January for a deal worth £500k including add-ons. #lufc

Ideguchi won't qualify immediately for a work permit under FA rules so will be loaned abroad in January to the end of the season. Leeds see him as a signing for next season and expect him to receive a work permit for it. #lufc

a deal Leeds could have done next summer but the Japanese season is finished and Ideguchi would have been inactive for a few months.

FA work permit rules for players of non-EU nations inside FIFA's top 50 (Japan are 55th but should rise after the World Cup) mean Ideguchi would need to have played in 75 per cent of internationals in the past two years. He's short of that number.

LEEDS UNITED have lined up their first January transfer by finalising a deal to sign Japan international Yosuke Ideguchi from Gamba Osaka.

The YEP understands that an agreement for Ideguchi was struck last Friday, allowing the midfielder to leave for Elland Road when FIFA’s transfer window opens next month.

Ideguchi is set to be loaned abroad immediately due to Football Association rules which will deny him a work permit for the rest of the English season.

The 21-year-old’s international appearances for Japan fail to meet the quota set by the FA but Leeds see him as a signing for next season and are confident that he will secure a work permit for the 2018-19 term.

Gamba Osaka’s J-League campaign finished a fortnight ago and United see a European loan as a way of preventing Ideguchi remaining inactive in the months ahead. The next Japanese campaign kicks off in the spring.

Leeds have been pursuing Ideguchi since the latter stages of the summer transfer window and decided to tie up the transfer after a board meeting last week.

Leeds United boss Thomas Christiansen

Ideguchi caught the eye during Japan’s successful qualification campaign for the 2018 World Cup, scoring in a 2-0 win over Australia which guaranteed the country’s involvement in Russia.

He struck again in injury-time during a clash between Japan and North Korea over the weekend and speaking to Japanese media, Ideguchi indicated that he was ready to take up a move to Elland Road.

“I think this is a place where I can learn and improve as a player,” he said. “There are opinions that it is better to wait six months (until after the World Cup) but I want to go there without being influenced by people’s opinions.”

The deal between Leeds and Osaka is believed to be worth around £500,000 including bonuses.

This is a place where I can learn and improve as a player. There are opinions that it is better to wait six months (until after the World Cup) but I want to go there without being influenced by people’s opinions.

Yosuke Ideguchi
United’s plan to send Ideguchi out on loan next month mirrors the strategy taken by Arsenal after the Gunners signed striker Takuma Asano from Sanfrecce Hiroshima last year.

Asano also failed to qualify for a work permit and moved on a temporary to Bundesliga club Stuttgart a month after arriving at the Emirates.

Ideguchi is a defensive central midfielder who has made 60 appearances for Gamba Osaka. He has nine caps to his name after being handed his senior debut for Japan last year.

Gamba Osaka midfielder to undergo medical next week

Leeds United can confirm that a fee has been agreed with Gamba Osaka for the transfer of Japanese International midfielder Yosuke Ideguchi.

21 year old Ideguchi, who has 10 caps for his national side, will travel to England next week for a medical with a view to completing a permanent move to Elland Road.

As the J1 League ended in early December, it is likely that Leeds United will loan Ideguchi out to Cultural Leonesa until the end of the season should the player pass his medical.

I scored 24 goals helping my side win promotion back to the Premier League aged just 22. Then in my first season in the top flight I had bagged an impressive 15 goals by the end of January. My form earned me an England call-up. Am I a £35m striker? No. I am Michael Ricketts, February 2002.

Spennende signering.

Et litt 'bedre' intervju her. :)

Football: Japan international Ideguchi confirms Leeds deal
 KYODO NEWS - 5 hours ago - 17:15 | Sports, All

Japan midfielder Yosuke Ideguchi announced on Thursday he has a deal with English second-tier club Leeds United, but the Gamba Osaka man said he will be immediately moved to a Spanish club on loan.
The 21-year-old Ideguchi, whose transfer to Leeds has been rumored since September, said after he joins the Championship club he will be loaned out to second division side Cultural y Deportiva Leonesa until he finalizes United Kingdom work permit issues.

Ideguchi's senior international appearances for Japan fail to meet the quota required by the English Football Association, leaving him without an avenue to a work permit for the rest of the season.
"I wanted to take up the challenge in order to grow as a player," he said in a press conference.
"I'm going without a road map. I'm thrilled and full of excitement. I'll do my best to bring good news to everyone (in Japan) instead of having people wonder where I disappeared," he said.

Ideguchi admitted he felt the difference in level when he played for Japan against Brazil and Belgium in November, and that experience encouraged him to make the move sooner rather than later.
The Fukuoka native knows communication will be crucial as he tries to blend into the new team, and says he will rely on his sense of humor to bridge language barriers.
"I'm sure my lightheartedness will help," he said.

Ideguchi signed a pro contract with Gamba in the J-League first division when he was 17 years old and at 19 was the youngest player on Makoto Teguramori's under-23 squad at the Rio Olympics.
He was called up to the senior Japan squad for the first time by Vahid Halilhodzic in November 2016 for a friendly against Oman and has been regularly involved since.

He scored for the national team in a 2-0 home win over Australia last August that booked Japan's place at the 2018 World Cup finals in Russia, where he said he hopes to be on the roster.
Ideguchi, who came through Gamba's junior system before he started his professional career in 2014, has won 11 senior caps for Japan and has scored twice.

He scored four goals in 30 league games for Gamba last season.

Spennende signering.

Opprykk må innen neste sesong er over.

it sounds like Ideguchi will actually receive a work permit from the FA but he's still expected to move on loan to Cultural Leonesa for the rest of the season.

The Ideguchi thing is nuts if true. We've literally just had to recall a player from there because they weren't using him. Moreover, we're signing one of Japan's star players allegedly and yet he can't compete with O'Kane or Klich for a spot in the team?

For spillerne, altså. ;)
