https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-9847825/I-know-boys-whove-left-love-Bielsa-Eddie-Gray-takes-comfort-resurgent-Whites.html

Oops, 8 nye kamper i 2012/13 ja...

He wasn't named on the bench but it just highlights his growing presence in the ranks at Elland Road.

The Athletic's Phil Hay has shed some light on why he was included in the squad for the Premier League fixture:

"The freshest face in the travelling party was that of Archie Gray, the super-gened 15-year-old who is grandson to Frank, nephew of Eddie and the latest member of the Gray dynasty, and while the schoolboy is setting tongues wagging by training regularly with the first team at Leeds, the club really had reached the stage of asking who had a pair of boots in the car, much as Gray is too young to drive."

På pressern ble Bielsa spurt om Archibald:

Can you tell us about Archie Gray's presence here today?
He was an option to be on the substitutes bench but in the end he wasn't picked.

Leeds-Live melder i dag at:
Saturday proved to be the last chance Gray had of breaking the club record for their youngest-ever first-team player. Peter Lorimer was 289 days into his 16th year when he debuted on September 1962. Gray will be onto 290 days when the Whites face Liverpool.

The Premier League's youngest-ever player is Harvey Elliott, who played for Fulham in May 2019 at the age of 16 years and 30 days.

https://youtu.be/H2jzsOm8jbs

https://twitter.com/i/status/1532665300092694528

Yeah Harry is a goalscorer so different players but he is also considered the better prospect. Be great to see them both make it and line up together

....

Regards the Gray brothers, Harry already has the better start. He left Man City to join Leeds. Might have only been 12 at time or something like that, but f**k Man Shitty. 😃

Sure there is also a thing that while Archie plays for England, Harry has said he'll play for Scotland. Could make an interesting international match in a decade if they do come good.

And sure Eddie has a couple of grandkids in even younger age groups too.
It's like some strange cloning thing.
(jada, Jacob og Charlie...) :)
...
A fair few people have said they're pretty confident Harry will be the youngest ever player to play for the club - pretty sure he's 13/14 so it'll be interesting to see what happens this season. Archie pretty much completely skipped the 18s, and was the youngest player to play for the 23s (15) since Cook, who was 14, so I wonder if Harry will end up in the 18s this season.

"I had a good talk with [dad] Andy in the summer and he thinks he's good a little bit deeper. I said, 'No way man, he's about final plays and scoring goals!' but he can do all those things because he's intelligent."

Jesse Marsch makes bold Archie Gray pledge following Leeds United youngster's debut
Archie Gray played 72 minutes for Leeds United's first-team during their 4-0 win over Blackpool in pre-season
By Joe Donnohue Thursday, 7th July 2022, 11:28 pm

Archie Gray is yet to receive his GCSE results but has already has already passed Jesse Marsch's entry exam for the Leeds United first-team.

The 16-year-old made his first-team bow in a non-competitive fixture on Thursday evening as the Whites defeated Blackpool 4-0 in their opening pre-season friendly of the summer.

Goals from Robin Koch, Junior Firpo, Rodrigo and Mateo Joseph capped a convincing performance as Leeds fans packed into the LNER Community Stadium in York to witness a consummately professional display.

Gray started the match in midfield, playing alongside new signing Marc Roca with Sam Greenwood in front in the No. 10 position.

Leeds' first half-chance of the contest came courtesy of the two youngsters who linked up with a one-two and ended with Gray gallantly chasing the return ball into the grasp of the Blackpool goalkeeper.

It was a display of intent from the teenager and the following 70 minutes reinforced the belief within the squad at Thorp Arch: he is no passenger in senior football.

Gray flew into tackles full-blooded, occasionally coming off worse for wear but was back to his feet swiftly and defiantly each time.

His eventual withdrawal came midway through the second half after head coach Jesse Marsch deemed him to have taken one too many knocks.

Speaking after the 4-0 win, Marsch praised the youngest member of his squad: "I consider Archie a first-team player at 16."

"He has cleverness, the flexibility to play in multiple positions, he can run, he sees things quickly, he's aggressive against the ball and he's fearless. I think he's got the full package."

Archie is a descendant of a storied Leeds United family which counts dad Andy, grandfather Frank and great-uncle Eddie as predecessors with close to 1,000 cumulative appearances.

His emergence last season as a 15-year-old in Under-23 football came as a surprise to some, but not to those closest to him.

Standing at six-feet tall with room to grow, fill out and learn his craft, there is palpable excitement at Elland Road about the teenager's prospects.

"I think he'll play," Marsch told reporters. "How much or how often, we're going to have a strong group I think we're going to need our full roster."

"I'm not the type of person to say we need to take him along carefully," the American added. "If he shows he's ready for big challenges like he did tonight, we'll give him those big challenges."

Gray was applauded from the field as he was substituted in the second half, recognition of a job well done by those inside the stadium.

"I think he's a [Number] six, eight, ten," Marsch opined over Gray's best position. "I had a good talk with [dad] Andy in the summer and he thinks he's good a little bit deeper. I said, 'No way man, he's about final plays and scoring goals!' but he can do all those things because he's intelligent."

Gray cannot officially sign professional terms until his 17th birthday next March, however involvement with the first-team squad this coming season should prove reason enough not to seek opportunities elsewhere.

Tredjegenerasjons Gray i Leeds! Dynasti

Archie Gray will train individually today in Fremantle and there's a hope he can get some minutes against Crystal Palace.

Dette var svært hyggelige nyheter.

Jesse Marsch welcomes Archie Gray back to Leeds United training as duo miss Crystal Palace session
Leeds United head coach Jesse Marsch welcomed Archie Gray back to first team training on Thursday ahead of the game against Crystal Palace.

Leeds lost 16-year-old Gray to an ankle injury not long after he came on as a second half substitute in Brisbane's Suncorp Stadium, Villa midfielder John McGinn making a challenge that left the teen in need of a stretcher.

The problem was not as serious as first feared, however and Gray was able to work through an individual session with a physio at the Fremantle Oval on Wednesday, before joining back in with the rest of the squad on Thursday at HBF Park, the home of Perth Glory.

Gray's return to the fold left just two players outside the main session - captain Liam Cooper and right-back Cody Drameh.

Agenten hans, Hayden Evans, har snakket på PH Show:

"You never want to put them under too much pressure, but it'd be good for him to have a taste of it. So I think just measured minutes. For us, it's touches you know, you just want him to have as many touches of the ball in the minutes that he is on the field."

https://theathletic.com/3533768/2022/08/26/archie-gray-leeds-united-gcses/

It is no surprise to hear on the grapevine that the Premier League's leading clubs are watching Gray constantly, Manchester City included. He is on a scholarship at Leeds and the club will be ready to finalise professional forms as soon as he is able to sign them when he turns 17 next March. His surname goes before him and it will be there for the duration of his career, a genetic link like very few others in the game, but school is behind him, he has the ability to be his own man and, in the eyes of the Grays and those who know him, the potential to match up to any of them.

His younger brother Harry is making people talk in the same way, an irrepressible forward who scores for fun. The family tree says it was always meant to be.

Marching on together!

leedslife

Archie Gray joined FDS aged 4 and continued his training all the way through to his teenage years. He has just signed a 2 and a half year deal with Leeds United.

Archie's younger brother Harry has just made his England debut at U15
