3 glipp i forsvar endte i scoringer for Wrexham...

Slo jo Man U i forrige kamp

Daniel Farke said he could have no complaints with Leeds United's pre-season defeat to Wrexham despite admitting his men had the chances to win the game and declaring sadness for the team's youngsters.

Leeds began their summer friendlies and pre-season tour of America with a clash against Championship side Wrexham at the Raymond James Stadium in Tampa for which Farke went with a mixture of experience and youth in his starting line up.

Leeds Academy players Jayden Lienou, Alfie Cresswell and Callum Mills were all handed starts for their full debuts alongside the likes of captain Ethan Ampadu and Joe Rodon but United found themselves 1-0 down after just 31 seconds.

A seesaw first half ultimately ended 2-2 after firstly Joel Piroe atoned for missing a penalty by equalising and Sean Longstaff then levelled again just before the break after Bailey Cadamarteri had fired Wrexham back ahead.

Farke then brought on summer signing Harry Wilson at the interval and the Wales international ace made an immediate impact as United pushed for the game's fifth goal.

The contest ultimately looked set to end in a 2-2 draw but Wrexham bagged a late winner through Sam Smith which left Farke disappointed with the result and sad for the team's youngsters but highlighting the importance of building a fitness foundation ahead of the new campaign.

The Whites boss admitted his team had much to work on but also highlighted how Leeds were missing several key players.

Speaking post match to LUTV, Farke said: "I am always struggling once there is a loss to be in a good mood afterwards, if I am honest.

"I am just a bit sad and feel a bit especially for our young lads"
"But today, no complaints. We played against Wrexham who played a relatively strong side, a few weeks ahead in their preparation. For us, we gave many, many debuts away today, also full debuts.

"I am just a bit sad and feel a bit especially for our young lads, that they couldn't celebrate their debut and their full debut with a win.

"If you have a look at the game, normally we should have won this game. We had more possession, we had more chances, should have scored also more goals than them but they were effective.

"You could feel today, lads were tired. We have trained the whole week, more or less two sessions per day. We had even a session this morning and to play without many important players so for that, no complaints.

"Pre-season you build a foundation for the whole season. It is most important that you do lots of physical work. You need this endurance, this fitness level during the whole season.

"We have proven last season how important this is. You have to integrate the new players. And the best way is always like once you are 24/7 together and you have lots of communication.

"We need, of course, to work on our game. We had many, many good pre-seasons in the last years and it was quite often then also the basement for a really good season. Hopefully we can also keep working hard and for that we also have a successful season ahead."

Smyth med fire punkt fra kampen:
Tanaka is either the world's unluckiest man, whose errors even close to halfway seem to lead to goals, or there's an element to his game that he must iron out.

Longstaff's first half and Wilson's glimpses of quality the highlights of that one for Leeds. Mills promising.
