Quote from: Hawley on August 03, 2026, 13:37:22Vi virker fortsatt litt "tynne".

Daniel Farke was thrilled with the "fire and bravery" shown by his Leeds United players in the second half of the club's 4-2 friendly win over Liverpool in Chicago, following his half-time message.

Not helped by a poorly, partially relaid pitch and a miscommunication between officials for Liverpool's second, Leeds were second-best during the first 45 minutes with errors commonplace and a stark lack of sustaining attacking thrust.

Farke brought on Brenden Aaronson, Harry Wilson, Sean Longstaff and Dominic Calvert-Lewin at the break and the tide immediately shifted. Leeds came from two goals down to fire home four through Calvert-Lewin (twice), Aaronson and Longstaff.

"You know, in football sometimes the momentum can change a lot. I think we didn't play with the bravery that we normally have in the first half," Farke told LUTV.

"We had good situations up front but could have been a bit more braver in possession to dominate the game a bit more.

"I said at half-time - we had a few changes and we also spoke about a few details in tactical terms - but it was more like [explaining] sometimes there is a suckerpunch.

"Also a bit unlucky like the second goal where we could have reacted a bit quicker, so I don't blame just the referee. The reaction from the cross for the second ball could have been a bit better.

"But we wanted to play our processes with belief and don't crumble. We played with fire and confidence and bravery in the second half, and this is why we dominated the whole second half and fully deserved to win this game."

Farke was seen swiping the air after Liverpool's second goal, which saw Jeremie Frimpong ghost in behind James Justin - who had moved over to left-back following injury to Gabriel Gudmundsson - to deliver a first-time cross to Florian Wirtz, allowing him to hammer home unmarked.

However, the manager's ire was actually directed at the officials, who had forgotten their communications kit. This led to the assistant raising his flag in the build up to the second goal before putting it down again after the referee didn't spot it.

Farke stirred: "The second goal against us was unlucky because the linesman waved the flag... normally in the US in each sport even coaches have headsets but it seems like they don't have any headsets for the referees. So a bit of confusion out of this we concede the second goal, crazy."

The US fixtures against Wrexham, Sunderland and Liverpool were actually part of a mini, unofficial tournament and Leeds' win on Sunday saw them come out as 'league' winners.

With more jovial humour, Farke said: "We won this tournament, and actually I want the trophy, because especially in the US you normally get the trophy for everything, but no trophy is around!

"So for that, I am a bit annoyed but all jokes aside, there couldn't be a better ending of this tour."

He added: "I would also recommend - I know it's different timings in the UK - everyone who has watched the game who has a day off can sleep a bit longer and try at least at home to celebrate a bit that we won the cup competition.

"Perhaps I will allow something on the flight so we can at least celebrate a bit with the players together."

Isaac Johnson:
Gabriel Gudmundsson has confirmed that his setback is on the opposite leg to the hamstring muscle he injured in April

Described it as a "little feeling" but more testing needed #lufc
