The already highly rated Leeds United Academy is being set up now to provide for the long-term future of the club... Radz and Orta have been very clear that they want the Academy to become the heartbeat of the club, and as such it has been given a reboot ... the appointments that have been made within the Academy show just how serious they are about this, and now the signings they are making to beef up the talent speaks volumes
There is a clear vision in place for the Academy, and the plan is being implemented with the now customary professionalism expected from the leadership team at Elland Road
The thing about signing these young talents from Europe is not just about them progressing through to the seniors, but also what they bring to the Academy as a whole ... suddenly the local lads are training side by with a lad straight out of Barcelona's Academy and they are exposed to his Barcelona work ethic and skills ... they start to find that they have to raise their game and graft hard to improve, and the overall standard within the Academy goes up
It creates an atmosphere of excitement that there are quality kids from Madrid and Barcelona coming in, and it becomes a real ambition to cut it in the Leeds Academy ... now the club's becomes Academy the place to be for an aspiring young footballer ... make it here, learn here, and your future in football looks very bright ... chances are you will get to wear the famous White shirt, and there will also be a stack of clubs willing to sign you just because you're a Leeds United Academy graduate
Radz, as a leader, knows what he is doing ... I have learnt in business and sport that I cannot motivate you ... I can incite you, for example, with a passionate half-time team talk that gets you flying for the first five minutes of the second half, but once that "rah-rah" wears off it's up to you to stay motivated ... Radz understands this, and he has his plan in place to lift the club up out of the doldrums
Radz and his leadership team are creating an environment at Leeds United that breeds positivity ... they are "creating a motivating climate", i.e. a workplace where people feel motivated to do their very best every day ... this is vital for any long-term success ... it is easy to spot the things Radz has done so far to create a professional, positive environment at Elland Road for the staff and the supporters
LEADERSHIP TEAM
Gone is the awful, unprofessional "leadership" of Cellino, "ably" supported by his "Director" sons ... now Leeds have a very capable and professional leadership team with a clear vision and strategy ... things are getting done, finally
SQUAD
Players are being signed for the long-term, to help the club progress ... the quality of the squad is being improved, and there is a clear desire for success on the pitch ... competition for places is seen as a good thing rather than having a small squad to keep costs down ... we Leeds supporters know all too well how easy it is for a thin squad to run out of puff at the business end of a promotion campaign
ACADEMY
The investment in talent from Europe is shrewd, as it raises the standards within the Academy whilst also raising the club's profile with young players ... the club can only benefit from this, and go from strength to strength ... Redders would definitely feel out of place in this brave new Leeds Academy
THE CLUB
There are improvements being made in and around Elland Road, and it would be a serious misjudgement to see these as purely cosmetic ... Radz is giving us a club to be proud of, an environment we can enter feeling positive and excited
He wants us to be rolling over the top of Beeston hill and seeing the magnificent Elland Road looking like a proper footballing cathedral ... he wants us to be buzzing as we walk up to the best stadium in the world, ready to roar the lads on to another win ... he understands that the supporters are the key to this club, always have been and always will be, and that their passion and desire flows onto the pitch and into the players
This reboot of Leeds United is no accident, it has it's roots in "that" conversation Radz had with Kenny Dalglish about investing in an English football club ... the planning started the day Radz met Cellino for the first time to discuss buying him out ... over the past year Radz had a good look at what needed to be done to improve Leeds United, and who the people were he would need by his side to help him make it happen
Most importantly, Radz clearly understood the need for a strong, professional Academy that is forward thinking and that delivers quality for the seniors ... this new Leeds United is intoxicating, and Radz and his staff will soon realise just how big this stirring giant really is
