Leeds United's three most exciting academy players for 2019

Leeds United manager Marcelo Bielsa has put his faith in the club's academy players so far this season.
Kalvin Phillips is his most trusted player, while Will Huffer, Jamie Shackleton, and Aapo Halme were among the youngsters to make their debuts.

The Elland Road production line is not stopping. More youngsters are pushing for places and trying to break through.
Here is a look at three players who could make an impression in 2019.


Robbie Gotts
Full-back Gotts has been in Leeds' academy for a decade and is pushing for a first team call up.
Gotts was included in Leeds' squad against QPR earlier in the month although he did not quite make the bench.
The 19-year-old began as a winger and Marcelo Bielsa could still look to convert him to play a more attacking role.

Leif Davis
An unheralded summer signing from Morecambe, Davis has already been named on the Leeds bench.
The 18-year-old left-back appears to have been fast tracked by Marcelo Bielsa and 2019 could provide him with his big chance.
Davis' chances depend on Tom Pearce, who is ahead of him in the queue when fit.

Niklas Haugland
Leeds beat competition from Ajax to win the signature of Norwegian wonderkid Haugland in the summer.
The young striker has been on a scoring run for the under-18s in November and December and is marking himself out as a player who Leeds might not be able to hold back.
He will soon be competing with Ryan Edmondson to push for first team minutes if he starts 2019 strongly.

Liam Cooper is expected to make his comeback from injury in tonight's game against his old club, whilst Tom Pearce could also step up his own return after making an appearance in yesterday's FA Cup tie against QPR.
A number of U23s players will also be available after making their senior debuts over the weekend. Clarke Oduor and Kun Temunuzhkov were both introduced in the second half of the FA Cup clash; whilst Will Huffer, Robbie Gotts, Jordan Stevens and Hugo Diaz were included on the bench.
Admission to the game is available at £4 for adults, and £2 for concessions.

Tadcaster Albion’s i2i Stadium will host Leeds United’s Under-23 Premier League Cup clash against Southampton Under-23s on Monday 21 January kick-off 7.00pm.

The Northern Premier League outfit have confirmed the news via their website this evening with the following statement: “We are pleased to announce that the i2i Stadium (LS24 9AY) will be the venue for Leeds United U23’s Premier League cup tie against Southampton U23’s on Monday January 21st (7pm).

This will be the first time that Taddy have hosted a competitive LUFC fixture. The two clubs have an excellent relationship, taking part in an annual pre-season fixture which is massively supported every year.

As a club we are delighted to welcome Leeds United and Southampton to the i2i Stadium. This is a big game and could very easily see several first-team players make their return from injury or suspension. As further information becomes available on the squads we will make it known.

It is also expected that first-team manager Marcelo Bielsa and his staff will be in attendance to cast their eyes over the emerging talent as well as the returning first team players as previously mentioned.

Kick-off is 7pm. It is pay on the gate with Adult prices at £3, Concessions £1 and Under 16’s Free of charge.

We are expecting a very big crowd so please arrive in good time to ensure that parking is accessible and you aren’t queuing at the turnstiles.

Hot food will be served as well as a vast array of cold refreshments.

The fixture had been scheduled to be played Guiseley’s Nethermoor Park at the same time but it’s now been moved to Tadcaster Albion’s i2i Stadium.
