.......
Bradford captain David Wetherall has been placed in temporary charge of the first team and Todd has warned him he faces a tough job to improve things.
"They're expecting David to work miracles," noted Colin Todd. "What can he do better than I can do? Nothing.
"Somewhere along the line he wanted to go into management and now he's getting a baptism of fire.
"He'll see what it's all about. There might be some response from the players, there might not be."

Where In The World?

WITW Is: David O'Leary!
Come onnnn...You know you love him really!

When George Graham became Leeds United manager in 1996 following Howard Wilkinson`s sacking, he brought with him a young man who had indeed played in the club colours but was well known for being an Arsenal Hero.
That man, Republic of Ireland international David O`Leary. O`Leary had been a player at Arsenal for 19 years before joining Leeds United in the 1993/94 season. He was a regular with us until Achilles trouble knocked him out of the first team. Despite numerous attempts to come back, he announced his retirement from playing aged 37.
When George Graham went off to Spurs, to do just about the same that every Spurs manager before him (and indeed since) have done...nothing, O`Leary was given the chance to apply, and subsequently the Leeds board tried to sign Martin O`Neill. It turned out that this deal went sour and so David O`Leary was thrust into the hot-seat at Elland Road.
At the end of his first season, O`Leary had guided Leeds to 4th in the league, and indeed the semi-finals of the UEFA Cup, however it was to be the following season where O`Leary made a name for himself.
The Champions League semi-final defeat was a major positive, as well as negative point. It showed that Leeds United were a major force in English, and indeed European football. The only downside is that after this, things went rather sour for our man from London/Dublin ;)
By June 2002, David O`Leary had splashed out a hideous £100million on new players, for very little reward. With the club spiralling into debt, the chairman of the time, one Peter Ridsdale sacked O`Leary, despite the manager never finishing outside of the top 5 in the league.
Leeds` fortunes didn`t seem to get much better despite getting rid of their big spender…hey big spender dodododo!
3 prolific managers, El Tel, Peter Reid (in my opinion one of the worst managers..ever,) and Eddie Gray all tried their hardest but Leeds couldn`t be saved from relegation in 2003/4. O`Leary`s legacy? Well the young players he gave first team chances to, some of which have gone on to become household names in the Premiership a la Woodgate, Bowyer, Smith, Kewell, Bakke (uhh?)
David had a bit of time off to do some gardening, or whatever it is failed managers do once they are sacked before being given what must be one of the hardest jobs in the Premiership, working for "Deadly" Doug Ellis." Finishing 16th thanks to Graham Taylor`s second attempt at success with the club, it was up to O`Leary to try and salvage something from a squad not really sure of where it was going. A debut season finish of 6th place gave a lot of confidence to Villa fans, who are notorious for complaining a lot (they will argue they have/had a lot to complain about!)
The next few seasons however did indeed give the grumbling midlanders plenty to grumble about! I have it on good authority from a Villa fan that David O'Leary, when talking to the media used the phrase "When I was at Leeds" 428,837 times. Just what you want to hear baring in mind what he did to us! More worryingly he very often called his squad an "honest bunch of lads." O`Leary is also famous for one of the most comic bits of thinking ever from a football manager, trying to believe that Carlton Cole was ever going to be a Premiership quality footballer.
One of the best things that I`ve heard coming from O'Leary's reign was his rapport with the fans. With results not going too well, there was many a call for O`Leary, and his boss man Deadly Doug to leave the club. How did our David sort this problem out? He insulted the fans! Calling the fans fickle, and some "sugarbags" was certainly not going to help matters now was it David. By the way, do you have the tropical fish?
We come to the end of this brief history of one of the more comical managers in Premiership history with his end in management, so far. After apparently orchestrating a player protest at the lack of transfer funds, Deadly wielded the axe once more (not literally of course, being 236 years old he had to wield a proverbial axe) and O`Leary was a Gooner, er..I mean gonner.
Despite many many many many many (MANY) jobs being available, in all divisions great and small, O'Leary hasn`t seemed to be able to pick up a new club to manage (funny that.) We`ve had some brief appearances during Champions League nights of Dolly on the Telly working for ITV but very little has been seen or heard so we do ask this question:
Where in the world, is David O'Leary?
Answers on a postcard, contribute to the forum or leave a comment!
(Told you it was a good one to start off!)

Gregan damages knee in training

The 32-year-old defender, who recently left Championship strugglers Leeds to sign a permanent deal at Boundary Park, has damaged ligaments in his joint.

RAFA: IT'S A WAITING GAME FOR HARRY

Rafael Benitez has revealed he is unsure when Harry Kewell will be able to return to first team action.
The Australian last played for the Reds in the 2006 FA Cup final and had earmarked next week's clash in Barcelona as a possible date for his comeback.
But Benitez has admitted the midfielder's lengthy absence and extensive rehabilitation has made it difficult to pinpoint an exact return date.
"Harry is progressing, but with his situation we can't say whether it's one week or two weeks or whatever. We need to look at it day by day," he said.
"I could say he could be back for two weeks, but we have to really wait and see.
"We tried to support Harry when he had some problems last season. He was playing really well, but after the World Cup he had another problem.
"We have to wait for Harry to be close to being fit before we talk to him and give him support on the mental side of playing again."

Feeney in talks over new contract
Striker Warren Feeney has hinted that the outcome of Luton's battle against relegation may influence his decision over whether to extend his stay there.
The Northern Ireland international's current deal expires in the summer.
"I am having a chat with the club about a new contract, and I am keen to stay," 26-year-old Feeney explained.
"The manager (Mike Newell) gave me a chance to compete in the Championship - and once you have played in the Championship, you want to stay there."
Luton, who are just above the relegation zone on goal difference, have recently tied Marlon Beresford, Russell Perrett, Steve Robinson, Ahmet Brkovic and Sol Davis to new contracts.
Feeney, who joined the Hatters from Stockport for £150,000 in March 2005 as they were on the verge of promotion from League One, added: "It is good to see other players committing themselves.
"Hopefully, we can get ourselves up the league."

Goalscoring legends set in bronze
Alan Shearer's statue will stand alongside Jackie Milburn's
Newcastle goalscoring legends Alan Shearer and Jackie Milburn are to be immortalised in bronze at their former home ground.
Two eight foot tall statues will be cast by local sculptor Tom Maley.
---

Wetherall ponders Crewe outing

Bradford caretaker-manager David Wetherall will make a late decision on whether he will play against Crewe on Saturday.
Centre-half Wetherall, a virtual ever-present for the Bantams this season, was placed in temporary charge of the first team when Colin Todd was sacked earlier this week.
"It's been non-stop this week and whether the job has taken its toll on me during the week will come into my thinking," Wetherall said.
"I'll make a decision in due course based on what I think is best for the team. We'll see."
Wetherall, meanwhile, has wasted little time in drafting in veteran coach Frank Barlow to help steer the club away from relegation trouble.
"I'm delighted to have got Frank in," Wetherall added.
"He's done a lot in his career without being in the media spotlight and has vast experience which I'll certainly be drawing on."
The Bantams sit just three points clear of the fourth relegation spot in League One and have not won in five league matches, prompting Todd's exit.
And Todd admitted he believed the 35-year-old former Leeds man would have a difficult time steering the club to safety.
"They're expecting David to work miracles. What can he do better than I can do? Nothing," he said this week.
"Somewhere along the line he wanted to go into management and now he's getting a baptism of fire.
"He'll see what it's all about. There might be some response from the players, there might not be."
Stuart McCall has been touted as a successor, with another former City star Peter Beagrie also mooted, but Wetherall is expected to be given until the end of the season to make the job his own.

Clarets biding time over Gray

Steve Cotterill believes Burnley striker Andy Gray is going through pre-season all over again as he grafts his way back to fitness.
The Clarets forward missed more than two months with a foot problem picked up at the end of November and has had one substitute appearance and a start since returning to fitness.
"It's going to take a little while for him and we know that," Cotterill said.
"Those bones look a lot healthier now than they did a few weeks ago, four weeks ago, six weeks ago.
"Now it's like he's having pre-season again and there's a bit of rustiness in him but you don't want to miss your good players and the quicker Andy's back up and running again, that'll be better for everybody."

Kewell expected to be first casualty of new Liverpool era
The takeover of Liverpool by George Gillett Jr and Tom Hicks may herald a new dawn for the club, but it is unlikely to do so for Harry Kewell.
The winger has not featured for Liverpool since limping out of the FA Cup Final last May and after Rafael BenÍtez, the manager, admitted worryingly yesterday that he has no idea when the injury-jinxed player will take the field again, the Australia star looks increasingly as if he will be the first casualty of the Americans’ £470 million takeover.

Wetherall: No time scale set out

Bradford caretaker manager David Wetherall insists he has not been given the job until the end of the season.
The 35-year-old defender was placed in temporary charge of the first team following the departure of Colin Todd on Monday and is happy to remain at the helm for as long as chairman Julian Rhodes wants him to.
"I'm in the caretaker role but however long that's going to last, I don't know," Wetherall said.

Gradi: Matthews can go on loan

Crewe manager Dario Gradi has circulated Lee Matthews' details with a view to the striker going out on loan.
With free-scoring Nicky Maynard and Luke Varney forming a prolific partnership in attack and Matthews having struggled with injury this term, the 28-year-old's opportunities for first-team action have been severely limited.
Gradi said: "He's fit and he's training but he needs to play matches and he's said he wants to go out and play games."

"Former Leeds United boss Kevin Blackwell says he is ready to return to football after a five-month absence.

The 48-year-old has been travelling Europe and South America learning new coaching techniques since being sacked by Leeds in September 2006.

Blackwell, who has also coached at Sheffield United, told BBC Sport: "I hope my record speaks for itself.

"I have reached four semi-finals and two finals in the last four years so I must be doing something right."

Blackwell was Neil Warnock's long-term right-hand man at Bramall Lane before becoming head coach at Leeds in 2003.

He succeeded Eddie Gray as Elland Road boss in May 2004 and guided his side to the Championship play-off final in 2006 but was sacked at the start of this season.

"I have not wasted my time away," Blackwell added.

"I am one of the most qualified coaches in Europe but I still think you have got to try to learn more and that is why I chose to go abroad.

"It is difficult to know which way to go. I am proven as a coach and I have shown I can manage.

"I have always thought it is important to have an open mind and I accept I need to have one over which direction my career goes." "

IMPORTS HARM ENGLAND - VENABLES
England assistant manager Terry Venables believes importing young players from all over the world is harming the England team.
Venables is convinced the academy system in England is failing the national team because clubs like Arsenal are signing foreign players as youngsters instead of giving local talent the opportunity to progress.
"The academy system is something that hasn't really borne fruit in the way we wished it did," Venables told The Guardian.

'Copy and Past'-bevegelsen ligger i fingerene og tar lite tid. Har tidligere i 10 år jobbet med nyhetsformidling, så dette går relativt kjapt.
Men bevares - trolig mer på nettet enn de fleste...
