Leeds United: Liam Cooper pulls out stops to net training green light
Updated: 16:37 Wednesday 19 December 2018

LEEDS UNITED have received a huge boost on the injury front with club captain Liam Cooper back in training 18 days after being ruled out for up to six weeks with a knee problem.

Cooper collapsed to the ground off the ball in the 1-0 win at Sheffield United on December 1 with the 27-year-old injuring his knee and punching the Bramall Lane turf in frustration.

The centre-back hobbled off slowly to be replaced by Aapo Halme with the Whites’ skipper injured at a time when fellow defenders Luke Ayling and Gaetano Berardi were also sidelined. Cooper subsequently saw specialists and underwent a scan.

Leeds then revealed that the centre-back had travelled to Rome for surgery to meet world-renowned knee surgeon professor Moriani with United looking for the best way to get their captain returned to fitness in the quickest possible time.

Cooper took to social media on December 5 to hail a “successful op” to an injury that “could have been a lot worse” and Leeds released a short video of the defender training at Thorp Arch this afternoon, accompanied by the words “back in training”.

Cooper’s swift return comes on the back of another speedy recovery made by £7m striker Patrick Bamford who injured his posterior cruciate ligament playing for United’s under-23s on September 11.

Leeds believed Bamford would be looking at four months on the sidelines but the striker returned to action nearly one month early when coming on as a 61st-minute substitute in Saturday’s 1-0 win at Bolton Wanderers in which Bamford scored the winning goal just five minutes after his introduction.

Whites right-back Ayling is already back running with the defender expected to be back in training this week after injuring knee ligaments against Nottingham Forest in the 1-1 draw at home on October 27.

Whites head coach Marcelo Bielsa has already revealed that he expects both Ayling and Tom Pearce, who has been sidelined with a foot injury, to be back this month.

Bielsa anticipated that Cooper would return in January though the defender looks to be on schedule for a return sooner than first thought. Berardi and Stuart Dallas remain sidelined with respective hamstring and foot injuries with Bearadi rupturing his hamstring in the 2-0 win at home to Ipswich Town on October 24.

The full-back spent the following week seeing consultants in the UK and Italy but elected not to choose surgical treatment with Berardi expected back four months after his injury.

Dallas, meanwhile, fractured his foot in the 1-0 win at Sheffield United with the Northern Ireland international expected to be sidelined for between four and six weeks from that date.

Izzy Brown, already on the comeback trail from tearing his ACL last January, became injured playing for United’s under-23s on Monday but the Chelsea loanee has only suffered a tight hamstring.

Virker som de er bedre på rehabilitering enn forebygging i klubben vår. Stort sett alle kommer raskere tilbake etter skade enn først estimert.

Rob Price om skadesituasjonen:

Gaetano Berardi making 'unbelievable' progress in recovery from injury for Leeds United
Head of medicine and performance Rob Price has provided an update on Luke Ayling, Liam Cooper and Izzy Brown

By Beren CrossDigital sports writer
12:09, 22 DEC 2018

Gaetano Berardi is doing some unbelievable work in his recovery from a hamstring injury according to Leeds United medical chief Rob Price.
The Swiss defender ruptured a hamstring tendon during the Whites’ October 24 victory over Ipswich Town and had been looking at a February return date.

On November 2, the club confirmed Berardi’s injury and estimated he would be available for action again 16 weeks later, February 22, 2019.

Speaking to LUTV, Price, head of medicine and performance, intimated Berardi had been working outside and shown remarkable progress.
There was also positive news on Luke Ayling, which Marcelo Bielsa backed up on Friday, and Liam Cooper, who was recorded training outside during the week.

Leeds United's injury list and return dates in full as Whites get set for hectic festive schedule
Izzy Brown, who limped out of Monday’s under-23 match with a hamstring issue, was also mentioned by Price.

“We’ve got quite a few you’ve seen out on the pitch already. Berardi’s doing some unbelievable work, Luke Ayling’s getting very close,” he said.

“We’ve got Liam Cooper, whose started out on the pitch. Izzy’s had a little setback with a hamstring. His knee’s absolutely fine.

“It’s disappointing. It’s unexpected because we didn’t want it to happen, but actually it’s a training injury rather than anything from his rehab.
“So, we’ve got a few players getting close and hopefully getting the same response Pat[rick Bamford] did.”

Douglas er dessverre skadet:

Douglas is injured and it's a player who is going to be missing for a while, it's a muscular injury. It's not that serious because he could finish against Nottingham. It's not too bad. We are prepared to solve this absence. We have Davis who can play as a full-back.

Berardi is well now. We'll see during January when we can put him inside the team. The process is the same with Liam Cooper. The idea is that he plays with the Under-23s then with the first team. The process of recovery the medical staff are doing have been always very efficient. The injured player when they come back to the first team is that good that you don't see the previous injury. Dallas started to train today, the problem with him is because it is a bone we have to wait until it heals.

Brown først klar om en måneds tid:

Izzy Brown is fit but he hasn't played in the last year. Usually a process for a player like him is to play with the Under-23s first so if everything goes well by mid-February he will be in a position to be in the first team.

Bamford har fått en ny lignende, mindre seriøs skade. Tar vel fort en måneds tid på ham også:

"Bamford suffered an injury similar to before but not as serious and we have to take precautions."

Bamford is well. He suffered an injury similar to the one before but not so serious. And we have to take precautions with that. That’s why we won’t accelerate the terms of recovery for Bamford. You have two ways of managing injuries of the players.
The first one is when you take into account the needs of the team or the second one is where you take into account the health of the player and for me I always put first the health of the player and then second the interest of the team. But to explain it clearly, if Roofe doesn’t play and if Patrick Bamford is available, it’s a possibility. But Tyler Roberts is a good alternative to both and we will try to have Harrison as an alternative. These are the ideas, they are not absences that generate problems without solutions. The fact we’ve played many games in a short period makes the other teams have the same unavoidable problems.
I don’t ignore the reality, but it’s a relaity that is a normal one because it’s a horizontal problem because they all have the same one.

Fra YEP i dag:

Leeds United's current injury list and expected return dates ahead of Derby County clash

Joe Urquhart Email Published: 17:17 Wednesday 09 January 2019

Leeds United have a number of players sidelined ahead of the visit of Derby County on Friday evening - but when are those in the medical room expected to return to action? We've thrown a list together below on what we know about Marcelo Bielsa's injured stars...

Liam Cooper -
Expected return: Friday
Injury: Knee

Leeds United captain Liam Cooper is expected to start on Friday evening for the visit of Derby County to Elland Road. The 27-year-old limped off during the Whites 1-0 Yorkshire derby victory over Sheffield United with the issue requiring emergency surgery in Italy.

Cooper returned to action ahead of schedule on Monday evening for the Under-23s side in a 3-1 victory over former club Hull City and is expecting play a part against the Rams this weekend.

Stuart Dallas -
Expected return: Two/three weeks
Injury: Foot fracture

The Northern Irishman picked up a foot fracture in the same fixture as Cooper at Bramall Lane on December 1. Dallas was initially ruled out for up to six weeks and the winger has now returned to training at Thorp Arch ahead of his comeback.

United head coach Marcelo Bielsa stressed he would not rush the 27-year-old due to the nature of the damage to the bone. Dallas is an outside bet to return to the squad for the trip to Stoke City next week.

Gaetano Berardi
-Expected return: Norwich City
Injury: Hamstring

Gaetano Berardi was ruled out for four months in early November after rupturing a hamstring tendon during an Elland Road victory over Ipswich Town. After consultation in both the UK and Italy it was decided that surgery would not be the preferred course of action to help heal the issue.

The Swiss defender is aiming to be available for selection for the visit of Norwich City on the first weekend of February once he completes his rehab.

Barry Douglas -
Expected return: Two weeks
Injury: Muscle strain

Barry Douglas missed the trip to QPR in the FA Cup last weekend with a hamstring strain and has now been ruled out for two weeks. Bielsa confirmed the problem was picked up against Nottingham Forest on New Year's Day despite the left-back completing the game with the issue.

Pablo Hernandez -
Expected return: One week
Injury: Thigh

The Spanish playmaker is touch and go to feature against Derby County on Friday evening. Marcelo Bielsa admitted that Hernandez wanted to play in the Championship clash but he would only be allowed to do so should there be no chance of a recurrence. Herandez is more likely to be back for the trip to Stoke City next weekend.

Izzy Brown -
Expected return: February
Injury: Hamstring

Following his return to Under-23s action from a torn ACL Brown picked up another issue whilst featuring for the development squad. This time a hamstring strain sidelined the Chelsea loanee and after working heavily with United's head of medicine Rob Price is now expected to be available for senior action at the beginning of February.

The 22-year-old is yet to make his Leeds debut since joining last summer from the Stamford Bridge club.

Patrick Bamford -
 Expected return: Two/three weeks
Injury: Knee

Following his return to action with a match-winning goal at Bolton Wanderers last month after a 16 week lay-off Bamford suffered a minor recurrence of ligament damage in his knee. Bielsa confirmed the training injury wasn't as bad as his initial issue but the problem has sidelined the £9million summer signing once again for several weeks.

Snart er ALLE klare igjen:

Injured players - update

Berardi will play next Monday and if everything goes well he will be in the group for the next game. Dallas started the training sessions with the group today and Douglas will do the same tomorrow. They won’t play next Monday, but they will the following under-23s game. If everything goes well they will be in for the next game after that.
It will be the same for Bamford. Maybe he will need a little more time. These three players will be available in the next 10 days. Also, Phillips will come back as he will have his three-match suspension over.
We solved the absence of Blackman with the signing of Casilla.

Dallas & Douglas are available but need “competitive tempo” with U23s next week.
Berardi was the same but it was hard for him in the U23s. He needs more time. Bamford trained today and will U23s in 10 days & then will be available. Brown needs several more U23s games. #lufc

Football, then; Rob Price did one of his medical updates from the Thorp Arch treatment room slash hospital slash leper colony; Stuart Dallas 'has been back training with the team now for a week to 10 days ... Barry Douglas has been back in training for the last week ... if the manager feels they are ready, they are available for selection.'

On Berardi, which is really all anyone cares, about,
'It is a really complicated injury, he actually ruptured one of his hamstrings. We scanned him just to make sure he hadn’t done anything again following Monday night’s game and everything is nice and intact on the hamstring that he ruptured. However the other hamstrings are having to take more of the load whilst the other one recovers, so there is a little bit of fluid around that is more because of an overuse. He will do some more work in the gym and out on the pitches with Reuben. We use the Under-23 games as part of the rehab process - just because he was going to play 45 minutes on Monday, we still think he is a fair way away from being involved with the team and perhaps that message sometimes doesn’t get out there as well as it should.”
Sob.

'Patrick Bamford is back in training with the coaching staff outside and back with the team and has done really well. His injury again was a little bit of a freak one - one of the players fell on him in a training session just before the Aston Villa game where his knee got caught underneath him and twisted.'
Okay, Scott Wootton is long gone, so who did this?

'[Bamford] is back with the coaching staff and looking quite sharp out there, but we don’t want to rush him back.'

Lastly, Izzy Brown, and is 'e gonna play before it's time to go back to Chelsea?
'When we signed Izzy we felt it would be January before he was back at his best. Added to that he had his little hamstring injury that he picked up just before Christmas, so we might be a couple of weeks behind that. But he is showing glimpses everyday in training, he looks like he is getting stronger, he is back with the team and producing some good sprint stats in the evaluation that we do of him. He just needs to do a little bit more in the games and let the manager see what he is able to do, before he is involved.”

Tell me - Tell me before I go
Does that flame still burn, does that fire still glow
Or has it died out and melted like the snow
