North End play waiting game

Preston are being forced to play a waiting game on three transfer fronts as manager Paul Simpson tries to sort his squad out for pre-
season training.

Kevin Nicholls has been linked with a move to Deepdale

While Preston North End must hang fire to learn the destination of star striker Dave Nugent, plans to bring in a midfield enforcer â€" now confirmed as Leeds United's Kevin Nicholls â€" and a targetman have been hit by delays at both their respective clubs.
Chairman Derek Shaw said: "These are the sorts of things that happen in the transfer market, there is nothing we can do about it."
Nugent has flown off for a holiday in the sun, leaving a decision about his future up in the air until next week at the earliest.
Attempts to land Nicholls â€" possibly with defender Kelvin Wilson going the other way in a £500,000 swap deal â€" are being held up by the transfer embargo at Elland Road. That is due to be lifted at the end of this week.

And PNE have been told they will have to wait for their striker target until his club have landed a replacement.
With Simpson also looking for a second central midfielder to bolster the engine room and probably another frontman to replace Premiership-bound Nugent, he is unlikely to have all his ducks in a row when the
players return to work in nine days' time.
The impending sale of Nugent is the biggest frustration at Deepdale.
Having resigned themselves to losing their top scorer to the lure of a Premiership awash with cash, directors and management would clearly prefer to get the deal done, bank the fee and move on.
But, having accepted two offers for the England inter-national, North End are being kept waiting by circumstances beyond their control.
Nugent and his agent talked with one club â€" believed to be Sunderland â€" on Friday.
But they then asked the second suitor to hang on for a week while the player went for a desperately-needed break in the sun after almost 12 months' continuous football.
The 22-year-old will not now resume talks until next week.
Preston could get on with playing the transfer market assured of the millions they will get, whichever club he selects.
But the traditional caution of the Deepdale board means no new deals can be done and dusted until the cheque has cleared.
Directors appear to have given the Nicholls transfer the thumbs- up whatever happens with Nugent.

The player, who was stripped of the captaincy at Leeds in February after a bust-up with manager Dennis Wise, is believed to have agreed a move across the Pennines.
And that could come as early as Friday when the club finally completes a 28-day transfer embargo and exits from administration.
The possible use of Wilson as a makeweight in the deal will surprise fans who believe the versatile 21-year-old has the potential to star at Deepdale.
But with Youl Mawene back in the frame this season after missing a year with a knee injury and the arrival of Billy Jones from Crewe â€" he can play at right-back and in the centre of defence â€" Simpson clearly feels he has enough cover to allow Wilson to move on.
Simpson has been looking to add some steel in midfield alongside Paul McKenna. And Nicholls would certainly strengthen the team's spine.

Preston admit they made a move for Nicholls in the last transfer window when his old club Luton also tried to get him back on loan â€" a situation which provoked his bust-up with Wise.
Shaw said: "Yes, he is a player we tried to get in January. But until the legal things at Leeds are finalised nothing can be done there.
"I understand the embargo lasts into the first couple of days on July, so it's difficult.
"We have still got a couple of things on the go and they are taking a while to conclude.
"As for the striker Paul is trying to get in, there is absolutely nothing going to happen at the moment.
"We have been told that unless the player his club are chasing signs for them they don't want to let him go.
"So it is a case of waiting for things to bear fruit. We are still talking and working on one or two things, but they are completely dependent on situations at other clubs."

Kelvin Wilson (born September 3, 1985 in Nottingham, England) is a professional footballer. He is a centre-back, although he can play at full-back. He currently plays for Preston North End. He is 6'2" and weighs 12 stone.

Wilson started his career at Notts County, making his debut for the club in a 4-0 loss to Hartlepool on 17 April 2004. In 2004/05 he became a regular in the Magpies back-line and was named Players' Player and most improved player in his first full season. One of the lower league's hottest prospects, he was taken on loan by Preston, then signed up at the end of the season for a reported £300,000.

Whilst Preston were under the management of Billy Davis, Kelvin Wilson was on loan at Preston despite the fact that Chelsea were reported to be interested in him due to the amount of confidence he possesses.[:)]

Chelsea viste jo interesse for Jermaine Beckford også. Han er jo "bare" i Scunthorpe nå... [:o)]

raggen
