KILKENNEY CUTS DOWN CREWE
Oldham came from two goals down to earn a 3-2 victory that left Crewe still searching for their first away win of the season.
Boss John Sheridan threw on substitutes' Neil Kilkenny and Matty Wolfenden in a second-half gamble that paid off as both grabbed vital goals.
The home side were hit by two goals in nine minutes in the first half. The first in the 17th minute was a real fluke after goalkeeper Mark Crossley's clearance from the edge of the box cannoned off Lee Barnard's legs before rolling into an empty net.
Oldham went behind even further in the 26th minute as Steven Schumacher picked out Byron Moore unmarked in the box and the 18-year-old left Crossley with no chance for his first career goal.
But the Latics bounced back to cut Crewe's lead before the break as Chris Taylor's cross was headed back by Michael Ricketts to Mark Allott who scored his first goal of the season from the edge of the box.
Then Wolfenden headed an equaliser eight minutes from time and Kilkenny hit a dramatic last-minute winner from 20 yards.

Oldham:
1. Mark Crossley, 2. Neal Eardley, 14. Reuben Hazell, 16. Sean Gregan, 11. Ryan Bertrand, 22. Andy Liddell, 4. JP Kalala, 8. Mark Allott (27. Neil Kilkenny 68), 18. Chris Taylor, 7. Michael Ricketts (17. Matthew Wolfenden 77), 10. Craig Davies.
- SUBS: 15. Gary McDonald, 5. John Thompson, 23. Neal Trotman

Ligger an til 0-0, da ...

Sheridan lauds Latics character
Oldham manager John Sheridan hailed the character of his side after they staged a courageous comeback to beat Crewe
Lee Barnard and teenager Byron Moore put Crewe in front inside nine first half minutes but Mark Allott kept Oldham in the hunt with a strike just before the break.
Then with time running out substitute Matty Wolfenden set up a dramatic finale and Neil Kilkenny grabbed a last-gasp winner.
Sheridan said: "We showed a lot of character against a good footballing side. But we can't afford to keep going two goals down because you won't get away with it every time, you will end up losing more than you will win.
"When we went two behind we raised our game and to score before half time really helped us. It gave us the belief we could get back into the game and it was a tremendous effort from everybody."

TeamNews: LEEDS NEW-BOYS GO STRAIGHT IN

Mark De Vries and Wayne Andrews are set to go straight into the Leeds squad for the League One clash with Oldham on Tuesday night.
The Whites will be without suspended strike pair Jermaine Beckford and Tresor Kandol after both were sent off in Saturday's draw at Gillingham, while Tore Andre Flo and Leon Constantine are injured.
Skipper Alan Thompson is pressing for a return to the starting line-up.
The midfielder returned to the substitutes' bench following a three-game absence due to a groin injury, but did not feature at Gillingham.

Battle of the Roses
Oldham Athletic vs. Leeds United

It's finally time for the visit of Leeds United which should mean enough but to add to it...the are still unbeaten!

Match Hype
Going into the game Latics fans should watch out for a backlash as Leeds fans and players alike should be up for it after only managing a draw against Gillingham at the weekend (a game in which 2 players were sent off).

Oldham Athletic Team News:
Latics will have a strong squad to pick from with a lot of competition in all outfield positions. Competing for a place at centre back to partner ex Leeds man and Oldham Captain Sean Gregan will be Reuben Hazell and John Thompson.
In midfield it will be a big battle for places after Neil Kilkenny returned last week and scored the winner. Also challenging for a place will be:
Mark Allott,
Andy Liddell,
JP Kalala,
Gary MacDonald and
Chris Taylor.
Up front manager John Sheridan is faced with some very healthy competition as youngster Matty Wolfenden scored at the weekend to draw the game level. Competing with Wolfenden will be:
Craig Davies,
Michael Ricketts,
Lee Hughes
It is expected however that Craig Davies will start because of his recent good form and goal scoring.

Player to watch: Neil Kilkenny
After his substitute appearance against Crewe, Neil Kilkenny will be vital in the up coming game against Leeds as the team can play off him and he can create goal scoring opportunities. If the Socceroo isn`t played it is safe to say that Latics are playing for a draw as he is a vital part of the team.

Leeds United Team News:
Leeds, travel to Boundary Park, without 2 key men in the squad. In the weekend clash against Gillingham both strikers Tresor Kandol and Jermaine Beckford were sent off which led to manager Dennis Wise only having one available striker. However manager Wise has signed 2 strikers for the tie on loan. One face will be very familiar to Latics fans, Wayne Andrews. The quick forward had a spell at the club making 36 appearances and scoring 11 goals. The other striker signed by Leeds is Mark Di Vries who made a name for himself at Hearts, playing over 70 games.

Player to watch: Wayne Andrews
Signed on loan form Coventry City, Andrews could prove a more than capable replacement for Tresor Kandol. The pace of Andrews could trouble former Leeds favourite Sean Gregan. If Gregan and co can stifle attacks from Andrews then Leeds may have to result to long shots. However in his spell with Oldham Wayne Andrews gained a reputation of having poor finishing which may please current Latics fans.

Match Facts & Stats
Leeds United will be looking to maintain their unbeaten start against Oldham and continue up the league after being docked 15 points.

Match Prediction:
Oldham Athletic 1 - 1 Leeds United

Shez would like to be playing
"These are the games you want to play in"

Tonights big match with Leeds United will bring back memories and mixed feelings for Latics manager John Sheridan as he was a big favourite with both clubs, having made 266 appearances for Leeds and a total of 164 for Athletic. He wishes that he could be out there on the park strutting his stuff.
He told Latics World, "It's a massive game. Teams like Leeds and Nottingham Forest are massive clubs who have done things at the highest level, and they'll bring a lot of fans. I've got a lot of time for Leeds and I still live in the area, but I'll be concentrating on getting us three points. This is a great opportunity for us. We've got a bit of confidence now and are getting a bit better and looking more solid with every game. Leeds are unbeaten and flying at the moment, and it'll be a great game for us played in front of a big crowd. These are the games you want to play in and I wish I was playing myself. It will be a brilliant atmosphere. But it's important we concentrate and just treat this as we would any other game. We're at home and we'll be looking to get three points."
"I'm not worried about Leeds. I'm concentrating on us and how we're going to go about getting a win. We'll try and exploit one or two weaknesses. Their two strikers (Jermaine Beckford and Tresor Kandol) are two of the best in the league and have been a big part of their success, but I'm sure whoever comes in will be biting at the bit. They will be going into every game thinking they're not going to lose. It will be a difficult game no matter who comes in, but we can win it and if we believe that then we're in with a chance."

Sheridan

Noen ord fra en hedersmann...

*Sheri still sweet on Leeds*

IF John Sheridan could choose two teams to win promotion from League One this season, they would be Athletic and Leeds United. The Boundary Park manager has retained a soft spot for tonight’s visitors ever since he began his illustrious league career at Elland Road. He still lives just five minutes from the ground and says his biggest footballing regret was never appearing for Leeds at the highest level.

Sheridan â€" now aiming to complete a hat-trick of victories as Athletic put their season on track â€" played for the fallen Yorkshire giants from 1982 to ’89.

He said: “I had seven great years at Elland Road and, along with Sheffield Wednesday, it’s the Leeds result I always look for first. They were my first club, I loved it there and the fans were always very good to me. I had some great times, even though we didn’t really win much, and if there’s one thing I could change, I would have played for Leeds in the Premiership. When I left they had players like David Batty and Gary Speed just coming through, and they got there not long after.”

Ahead of tonight’s hotly-anticipated Roses clash, Sheridan also spelled out his admiration for rival manager Dennis Wise. The outspoken Leeds boss tends to divide opinion straight down the middle â€" and he still isn’t universally popular with fans, despite guiding his team to seven wins and a draw this season.

Like Sheridan, he used to be a combative midfielder. And like Sheridan, he is no stranger to brushes with authority. Wise’s latest outburst came at Gillingham on Saturday when he was sent off for abusing referee Danny McDermid and later claimed the official had sworn at him after the game.

Sheridan said: “Dennis was a very good player and I came up against him a few times myself. I’ve always liked him. I like his attitude because he’s a winner who says what he wants. I don’t really know him, but we always speak when I see him and I think his personality is well suited to Leeds. He will do things the way he did them as a player â€" there’s a bit of nastiness in him, but that’s all about wanting to win games. I like that nastiness because it shows desire, and Dennis needs to do well because the Leeds fans are expecting success. They are a massive club to be in this division, but I hope we both go up at the end of the season.”

Starting role for Kilkenny

NEIL KILKENNY could step back into Athletic’s starting XI for the big match with Leeds United at Boundary Park tonight.
After seeing him play a key role in Saturday’s victory over Crewe, manager John Sheridan admits he may promote Kilkenny from the substitutes’ bench.
The on-loan 21-year-old returned from injury at the weekend and is Athletic’s most creative influence in midfield.
Sheridan needs all his big guns to fire against Leeds, who would be top of League One if they hadn’t been deducted 15 points in pre-season.
Leeds, with a travelling army of up to 4,000, will parade two debutants up front after agreeing loan deals for target-man Dorus De Vries and pacy ex-Latics favourite Wayne Andrews.
Both strikers have signed from Championship clubs â€" Leicester and Coventry respectively â€" as the regular front two of Tresor Kandol and Jermaine Beckford are suspended.
A red-hot atmosphere is guaranteed, and Sheridan said: “There’s no doubt this is a massive game.
“Leeds have been successful at the highest level, but it’s a great opportunity for us because we are getting our confidence back and playing better with each game.
“Leeds are unbeaten and they have been flying, but we’ve got to treat it like any other match â€" it’s a chance for three points.
“If we beat them, we can get ourselves among the group at the right end of the table.”
Athletic have risen from bottom place to 15th with successive victories over Walsall and Crewe.
They could be in the top half after tonight’s full programme of League One fixtures, but Leeds have won seven of their first eight games.
Supporters are reminded there is no cash admission for the Roses battle, which kicks off at 7.45.
Leeds may hand a recall to ex-Celtic and Aston Villa midfielder Alan Thompson.

Dennis
