Bytte Derry\Kishishev...

Derry: I'm not bitter

"I wouldn't expect to be thrown into a team that's doing so well," said Derry.

"As the old saying goes, if it isn't broken you don't fix it. That's pretty much the situation at Leeds and I'm not going to get a look-in there at the moment.

"I've said before that this is a massive season for Leeds, and it's more about the club than individuals. But I don't know what the future holds for me there, or what the hierarchy at Leeds have planned for me. Your guess is as good as mine."

Derry uncertain on Leeds future

Shaun Derry

Shaun Derry today insisted he bore no resentment over his short-term exit from Leeds United, describing his switch on loan to Crystal Palace as "the perfect move".
Derry agreed a two-month loan with Palace yesterday, 72 hours before the Football League's deadline for emergency transfers, and he will remain at Selhurst Park until midway through the January transfer window.
The midfielder resumed training with Leeds last month after a 10-month battle with injury, but his future at Elland Road has been unclear ever since United manager Dennis Wise announced that Derry would be sent out on loan following his return from heel surgery.
Wise said he was anxious to see the 29-year-old recover full match-fitness, but Leeds have a surplus of central midfielders and the club followed up Derry's departure yesterday by extending Radostin Kishishev's loan from Leicester City until January 23.
United are also being linked with a January bid for Ipswich Town's 21-year-old midfielder Sammy Moore, a former Chelsea youth-team player who is currently on loan with Brentford.
Derry admitted he was uncertain whether his move to Palace â€" the club he left to join Leeds almost three years ago â€" would spell the end of his career in Yorkshire, but it is probable that he will be offered a longer opportunity by Neil Warnock if he impresses during his two months in London. United would almost certainly listen to offers for Derry, who is under contract with them for another 18 months.
The ex-Sheffield United player thanked Warnock for his show of faith, but refused to criticise Leeds for overlooking him this season.
United are two points short of the top of League One after Saturday's 2-1 win over Swindon Town, and Derry said: "I wouldn't expect to be thrown into a team that's doing so well.
Your guess is as good as mine.
"At the moment, Palace is the perfect move at the right time. I know the club well and I know Neil Warnock â€" I've got to thank him for putting his faith in me because I've had a horrible year with my injury. Playing first-team football is so vital for me now."
Derry has completed two reserve appearances for Leeds this term, but yesterday's transfer elevated him to the Championship, albeit with a club who are one place off the bottom of the table.
Derry could play as many as 12 games for Palace before his two-month loan expires on January 19, and Wise has repeatedly insisted that the midfielder will return to the reckoning at Elland Road once he proves his match fitness.
Kishishev, however, now looks likely to play a key role in the remainder of United's League One season, and Leicester's decision to allow him to represent Leeds in the FA Cup suggested a permanent deal for the Bulgarian is a strong possibility when the transfer window opens.
The emergence of youngster Jonathan Howson, meanwhile, has added greater depth to Wise's pool of midfielders, and the Elland Road boss has Alan Thompson, Andrew Hughes and Jonathan Douglas competing for central positions.
Derry said: "It's a short-term move for me but an exciting one. I wanted to come to a club where I could make an impact, and where my contribution would mean something.
"Palace aren't in the best of positions and the Christmas period will be a crucial one. Every game is going to matter. I'm delighted to be back in the Championship because this is the level I think I should be playing at.
"Leeds are flying and no manager is going to tinker with a team that's sitting as high in the league as they are. It's unfortunate, but the move to Palace is something to be very positive about."

Derry's departure added his name to a lengthy list of players who are unavailable for tonight's FA Cup first-round replay with Hereford United at Elland Road, where Wise will return to the dug-out after a three-match touchline ban.
United's boss watched from the stands during a goalless draw during the original tie at Edgar Street, and he called on his players to take a big step towards a potentially lucrative third-round tie by dispatching their League Two opponents at the second attempt this evening.
Leeds will secure a home tie against Hartlepool United in round two if they overcome Hereford, giving the club a strong chance of joining England's Premier League clubs in the third-round draw.
Wise said: "It's an important game for us, and it's a money spinner. It's a game we're going to try and win.
"We know it's going to be difficult because they did very well against us. But it's a different environment and a little bit different for them so we'll see how they cope."

Derry keeping options open

Derry: Loan deal

Leeds United midfielder Shaun Derry has not ruled out a permanent Crystal Palace switch after returning to the club on a two month loan deal.
Former Eagles hero Derry, who played an integral role in helping Iain Dowie's Palace side achieve promotion in 2004 after beating West Ham 1-0 in the play-off final at the Millennium Stadium, has rejoined the club he left in 2005 and has left the door open for a permanent move back to SE25.
Eagles boss Neil Warnock fought off interest from at least two other Championship clubs to bring the 29-year-old, who he worked with at Sheffield United, back to Selhurst Park.
And Derry has not dismissed the prospect of an indefinite Eagles tenure should his loan period be a success.
When asked if there was a chance of extending the loan deal, Derry replied: "Who knows, initially it's just for the two months.
"I think it's a case of Neil looking at me and deciding if he wants me here full-time - I've still got 18 months to go on my contract at Leeds.
"There is still a lot of water to go under the bridge between now and January 19 when my loan expires."
But Derry insists the only thing on his mind at the moment is helping a club, he admits he holds close to his heart, out of relegation trouble and hopes the familiar surroundings will help him have an instant impact.
"My first and main concern is going out there playing for a club that drastically needs three points, said Derry.
"The club has changed a little bit but the foundations are the same, there's a few new players and staff members but the atmosphere is the same so that's made it easier to settle in.
"It's important when you come in on loan that you settle, particularly with the position the club are in.
"You don't want people to say he is still finding his feet' so you've got to hit the ground running."
Derry has made just two reserve team appearances for the Elland Road club this season after battling back from a heel injury that kept sidelined for nine months.
But the midfielder insists he is over his injury problems and revealed once he heard of Palace's interest there was only one club he wanted to join.
"I've been aware of the interest for a couple of weeks, said Derry.
"I was fortunate enough that a few Championship clubs took an interest but as soon as I heard Palace was one of those clubs it was an offer I couldn't turn down.
"I was surprised to get the call because when you leave a club you don't often go back to that club.
"But Neil is familiar with me as a player and when he made his interest known I was keen to come down."
