LEEDS UNITED: Whites target Christie
Leeds United are trying to strike a deal with Malcolm Christie which will allow the injury-prone forward to resume his professional career at Elland Road.
United have opened talks with Christie and his agent about a permanent move to Yorkshire and the League One club look increasingly likely to add the unattached 29-year-old to their first-team ranks.
Christie was invited to train with Leeds earlier this season, initially to help him regain full fitness, and he has put himself in line for a free transfer to Elland Road following a number of appearances for the club's reserves.
Leeds boss Gary McAllister said: "We're talking to Malcolm and his agent now. We'll see what they're looking for.
"He's a player who's been here and we've helped him to get back to where he is. We're in discussions."
The former Derby County and Middlesbrough striker has been out of contract since the summer of 2007 when he left the Riverside, and a continuation of his long-running injury problems have prevented him from finding a new club.
Christie almost landed a short-term contract with Leeds last season before injuring his back as the deal was being drawn up, but his recent spell of training at Thorp Arch appears to have presented him with another opportunity to join the club on a permanent basis.

McAllister in talks with Christie

Christie has been without a club since leaving Middlesbrough in May 2007

Leeds manager Gary McAllister is in talks with Malcolm Christie's agent over a possible deal to bring the striker to Elland Road.
The 29-year-old is without a club and has been training with United in a bid to regain full fitness.
McAllister told BBC Radio Leeds: "We're talking to Malcolm and his agent now so we'll see what they're looking for.
"He's a player that's been here - we've helped him get back to where he is and we're in discussions."

Ex-Leeds star on trial at Charlton
FORMER Leeds and Sunderland defender Ian Harte is currently on trial at Charlton.
The ex-Republic of Ireland international rose to prominence in the late 1990s when he was part of David O'Leary's young Leeds side which reached the semi-finals of the Champions League.
However, a move to Spanish side Levante in 2004 didn't work out for the left-back and he was released at the end of the 2006-07 season, and he consequently signed for Sunderland.
Harte was released by Black Cats manager and former Ireland team-mate Roy Keane in June, and has had a trial at Wolves and trained with Leeds and Sheffield United since then.
Harte played in Charlton reserve team's 2-0 defeat to Millwall on Tuesday afternoon.

Leeds United are doing all they can to keep straying hands away from Fabian Delph but the 18-year-old is not alone in attracting scouts to their matches.

Middlesbrough sent a representative to Pride Park on Tuesday night for United's Carling Cup tie against Derby County, but the subject of their attention was not Delph.

It was Luciano Becchio, the Argentinian striker whose move to Leeds from Spain is fast becoming the best piece of transfer business completed by United with Gary McAllister as their manager.

Delph has made waves in the media but it seems that Becchio's name is also spreading â€" hardly surprising given his excellent form â€" and Middlesbrough were not the only Premier League club to cast an eye over the forward on Tuesday.

They can, however, be certain that Leeds will be as unreceptive to offers for Becchio as they intend to be to offers for Delph.

LEEDS United are monitoring Fulham's Congolese centre-back, Gaby Zakuani. Zakuani is currently on loan at Peterborough where he has impressed with some solid performances and McAllister want's the defender to plug his leeky defence.

Leeds hope to seal Christie deal

Leeds boss Gary McAllister is trying to agree a deal with former Middlesbrough striker Malcolm Christie in time for Saturday's visit of Hartlepool.
The 29-year-old, whose last game was in April 2007, played 70 minutes of Leeds' 5-2 win at Northampton in Tuesday's FA Cup first round replay.
"He brings us that wee bit of guile and experience," McAllister told BBC Leeds.
"I've got four mainline strikers at my disposal and it just strengthens and bolsters the squad up even more."
The former England Under-21 international has been training with Leeds in a bid to regain fitness and was a surprise inclusion at Sixfields after agreeing to play.
McAllister said: "We've now got four mainline strikers at my disposal and it was very comforting with 20 minutes to go to be able to take Malcolm and Jermaine [Beckford] off and replace them with Luciano [Becchio] and Big Enoch [Showunmi].
When asked whether he hoped to sign Christie in time for Saturday's visit of Hartlepool to League One, McAllister would only comment: "That's the plan."

Jermaine Beckford's hat-trick may have been bagged the headlines at Northampton on Monday night - but another major talking point came with the return to action for former Middlesbrough and Derby County marksman Malcolm Christie.

Malcolm was a surprise inclusion in the starting line-up - the club kept his likely appearance under wraps until the teamsheets were exchanged at Sixfields - and the 29-year-old also caught the eye on his first senior appearance since April 2007.

Malcolm has played in a one reserve game and two behind-closed-doors matches since returing to fitness at Thorp Arch and Gary McAllister was keen to see him in competitive action again.

He played 70 minutes in the FA Cup first round replay, and Gary Mac was delighted.

"He's been working on his fitness at Thorp Arch and we've been looking after him," exlpained the manager.

"Hes backon the radar for loads of other clubs, but we've got him on a non-contract basis and we're delighted.

"He gives us a bit of guile and clever movement and the other strikers will learn from him."

United chairman Ken Bates was also pleased with the debut man.

"I was very impressed with Malcolm Christie," said the chairman.

"He's very talented, he's here on a non-contract basis, and he gave us a different dimension.

"Malcolm is keen to prove himself and we hope that when he does, he and we will sign a full contract, but that of course will be down to Gary."

Da trenger vi ikke å bekymre oss for minuspoeng av den grunn  ;D
