Man City boss Mancini will lean on Salsano ahead of Kidd
Roberto Mancini is in the dark over his new assistant manager at Manchester City, Brian Kidd.
The Sun says the Italian was told to take on Brian Kidd as No 2 at Manchester City when he took over from Mark Hughes last Saturday.
Mancini accepted this but is trying to find out about him by picking the brains of his contacts.
The boss and assistant do not know each other and Mancini will use fellow Italian Fausto Salsano as his real right-hand man.
Several players remain unhappy about Hughes' exit, most notably Craig Bellamy and Shay Given who met on Tuesday night to discuss their futures.

Carl Dickinson interview
Carl Dickinson's education in professional football has already helped Leeds United to the League One play-offs and Blackpool to life as a Championship side.
There has even been a short spell in Iceland to boot.
However, as the Stoke City ace heads back to Staffordshire, it is his time at Barnsley which has been the best.

Galatasaray play down new Kewell contract
Galatasaray have played down talks that Australian star Harry Kewell has signed a new contract with the club.
Reports on Turkish TV claimed that the 31-year old had signed a new two-year deal with Gala’ but the club has refuted that, saying no fresh contract has been agreed upon.
"The report . . . is not accurate,” it read on the club’s official website.
Kewell has become a crowd favourite at Gala’ and has been in impressive form since he joined from Liverpool in 2007, scoring eight goals in his debut season and nine so far this term.

Hayden Foxe In @ NQ Fury ? …

32 year old former Socceroo & ex Sanfrecce Hiroshima, West Ham Utd, Portsmouth, Leeds Utd & Perth Glory Centre Half Hayden Foxe is currently training with NQ Fury & according to a NQ Fury spokesperson is not in line for a contract.
Foxe is reportedly mates with some of the current Fury squad members & was granted a request by head coach Ian Ferguson to train with the squad as the club less player seeks to retain/gain some fitness. The club spokesperson elaborated further…
''He's mates with a couple of boys in the team and asked 'Fergie' (Fury Head Coach Ian Ferguson) if he could train with us.”
Released by Perth Glory at the culmination of the 2008/9 season the Sydney born Ajax Amsterdam academy product is one of the most talented players to have ever been produced by Australia. However a career that saw the player continually cruelled by injury for well over decade (mostly Knee problems) caused the player to never actually live up to his potential.
Identified by current Tottenham Hotspur boss Harry Redknapp, Foxe played for Redknapp at both West Ham Utd & Portsmouth but was never able to string a continuous block of football together that has basically been the sorry story of his career.
Returning to Australia with Perth glory Foxe again spent more time on the treatment table than on the training paddock & was subsequently released at the end of last season. Hayden made only 8 appearances in 2 seasons with Perth due to injury.
Ian Ferguson will no doubt run the rule over the player while he trains with his Fury squad but would imaginably be reluctant to look at Hayden for beyond the current season due to the players aforementioned horrendous injury record.
A crying shame as Hayden could have been one of Australia’s very best & despite being almost continuously injured made 15 full caps for the Socceroos & played U/23 level at the 1996 & 2000 Olympic Games along with international appearances at the 1993 U/17 & 1997 U/20 Youth World Cup finals.

Tomas Brolin to Leeds – When a Big Money Move Went Wrong

Tomas Brolin cost Leeds United £4.5 million from Parma in 1995, the wise man that decided to splash the cash on the Swede was George Graham. It must be said that before the move Brolin was a fantastic player, most noted for helping Sweden finish third in the 1994 World Cup. Surely he could not fail… but he did, in emphatic style.
At the time of the transfer Brolin was regarded as one of the best players on the planet, while playing for Italian side Parma, he was one of the instigators of he most successful periods in the clubs history, lifting a Coppa Italia, UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup, UEFA Super Cup and UEFA Cup.
As well as USA ’94, he competed at the 1990 World Cup in Italy was also a beaten semi finalist in Euro ’92. He did however break his foot in a European Championship qualifier against Hungary in November 1994; this kept him out of the game for about 5 months, and is thought to have effectively ended his career.
Leeds signed Brolin a year after this injury. He started reasonably well, with his standout performance coming against Manchester United, in a 3-1 victory on Christmas Eve 1995, where he played a part in all three goals for the Elland Road outfit.
This was to be the his Leeds United career highpoint, after a 5-0 drubbing from Liverpool, Brolin felt the wrath of manager Howard Wilkinson who bemoaned the players lack of defensive ability. He was then in and out of the side for the rest of the season.
After 20 games and 4 goals with Leeds he decided to find a new club, he eventually found himself back at Parma but only on loan. After this loan spell his contract was rescinded with Leeds and found himself at Crystal Palace, a little on the overweight side. After only 13 matches he was released in 1998.
He is often labeled one of the worst players ever to grace the Premier League, and rightly so. The foot injury he suffered resulted in a loss of fitness that he never regained, and jibes of the Swede becoming a little ‘tubby’ were commonplace.
After retiring from football aged 28 Tomas Brolin opened a restaurant in Stockholm called Undici, meaning eleven in Italian and the number he wore at Parma. He is also a player on the World Series Poker Tour as of 2006.
How a career can reach such a high then come crashing down is anyone’s guess, but Brolin is one of the most expensive flops in Premier League history.

Former manager Armfield delighted with community award
Jimmy Armfield was "surprised and grateful" to be awarded the CBE in the New Year Honours List for his community work.
Armfield, 74, captained England at the 1962 World Cup and won 43 caps in total, while also making a club record 627 appearances for Blackpool.
He went on to have successful spells as a manager with Bolton and Leeds before moving into journalism, and is a highly-regarded match summariser with BBC Radio Five Live.
Reacting to the news of his award, he told Press Association Sport: "It came as a surprise to me and I'm very grateful for the award, although it's also something I get a great deal of enjoyment from."
Armfield has served in a variety of community roles and it is for his tireless work in this area that he has been awarded the CBE.
He is currently chairman of the Lancashire Partnership Against Crime police initiative, is president of Age Concern for his local area, is a school governor of 30 years' standing and served as the High Sheriff of Lancashire from 2005 to 2006. Until recently he was also the president of the Lancashire Outward Bound Trust.
He also makes numerous other charity appearances, with one for a blind persons' charity and a local hospice in his diary for next week.
Alongside that Armfield continues to work as a summariser for BBC Radio Five Live and is now in his 30th season as a radio pundit.
Armfield, who still averages around a game a week for the station, has no plans to quit his role, saying: "I'm happy to continue for as long as they want me to."
Armfield, who has made a full recovery from cancer after it was confirmed he was receiving chemotherapy treatment in May 2007, is to be further honoured in the form of a statue at Blackpool's Bloomfield Road ground, which is set for completion next September. (YEP)

Mark Viduka is yet to decide his next move.
The former Middlesbrough and Celtic star had a first Christmas with his family in Melbourne last week.
"I think Mark will be here for the foreseeable future," a source told the Sunday Telegraph. "By that I mean two, three, maybe four years. Beyond that I doubt he knows himself. Whether he will play again, well that's a question no one knows the answer to, including Mark."
Another figure who has known Viduka his whole career adds "this is a new experience for him. He's never had a Christmas in Australia with his family. He's always been playing at this time of year. Now he's looking at schools, doing all those fatherly things."

Beijing Guoan make million dollar bid for Newcastle’s Griffiths
Chinese club Beijing Guoan have made a $1 million bid for Newcastle Jets star Joel Griffiths.
In what would be a record deal for Australian football, the 29-year old is believed to be considering the new deal after rejecting a $750,000 move recently.
Younger brother Ryan is on the books at Beijing and the fact a lot of key players have left Newcastle this season could see the deal get over the line.
Jets owner Con Constantine was unsure whether or not the club will sell last season’s leading Corer.
"Yes, there is an offer on the table, and, yes, it is definitely a record offer," he said.
"From a business point of view, it's always nice when clubs around the world want your players, and as I've always said, we don't stand in the way if a player wants to go, and the price is right.

Newcastle’s Griffiths not for sale
Newcastle Jets have insisted that star player Joel Griffiths is not for sale despite a $1million bid from Chinese club Beijing Guoan.
Jets chief executive John Tsatsimas confirmed the club had rejected the offer this week.
"He's a Newcastle Jets contracted player. We want him here. He's our talisman, he's our captain, he's our marquee player," Tsatsimas said.
"Our chairman's indicated he's trying to form a team with Joel as its apex.
"He'll be here for the Asian Champions League."

Beijing Guoan hero Griffiths fed-up with Jets stand-off
Joel Griffiths is blanking demands from Newcastle Jets he return to the club.
Griffiths, fresh from winning the Chinese Championship with Beijing Guoan, is fed-up with talks between the two clubs dragging on over a permanent deal.
Jets coach Branko Culina says Griffiths is "not doing the right thing" over his stand-off.
''I really don't want to get involved because I don't know what the previous arrangement was, but I do know that Joel is not doing the right thing," he told the Sydney Morning Herald.
''I spoke to him seven, eight days ago and I said to him, 'Look, Joel, I feel until the matter gets resolved, you can't worry about things you can't control. Don't do silly things and say how your heart's not in it because Newcastle's been good to you. In the meantime, come and train, and whether you stay at Newcastle or move to Beijing, you'll benefit from doing something.'''
Griffiths's agent, John Denison, last week accused the Jets of reneging on a deal to sell Griffiths for $350,000 and suggested that the players' union might soon be brought in to resolve the stand-off.
