Leeds United boss Simon Grayson admitted that Billy Paynter could be going out on loan but not until after the game against Brighton next week.
Paynter`s struggled since arriving at Elland Road, scoring just one competitive goal in his first season at Elland Road and he now faces stiff competition with a number of players seemingly ahead of him in the squad.
Grayson speaking on Yorkshire Radio said, "Keogh and McCormack are numbers one and two at the moment. You have Becchio coming back; Forssell showed his qualities in the game and in training recently, Nunez can also play up there, so we have some good competition for places up front.
"Billy knows that, he`s working hard in training, as are all the other players to try and get into the team.'
Paynter came close to joining Brighton on transfer deadline day but the move broke down after the two clubs failed to agree on a price for the striker.
Grayson admitted that the club have had enquiries about Paynter. "We`ve had one or two enquiries; there will be for players who are good footballers.
"Nothing`s progressed, on as and when and if we are going to do it, but it is a possibility with the number of players we have available.
"We probably won`t be doing anything with anybody going out until after the Brighton game, because with the quick turnaround of games we might need as many players as possible," continued Grayson.
Paynter joined Leeds on a free transfer from Swindon in the summer of 2010 after notching 29 goals for the robins as they reached the end of season play offs in League One, only to lose to Millwall in the final.
The 27 year old also managed to score four times against Leeds in the two meetings between the clubs during the season.
Paynter suffered a shin injury during pre season for Leeds whilst on tour in Slovakia, where he also scored his first goal in Leeds colours.
He had to wait until the end of October to make his competitive debut for Leeds as a substitute in the win at Scunthorpe United.
Paynter had to wait until the Christmas period to make his first start for Leeds in the home game against Portsmouth.
The striker made 23 appearances for Leeds last season, with his only competitive goal coming in the 2-1 win at Preston North End in March.
