Kampen sett fra et Brighton synspunkt:
Interview with a Brighton fan August 18, 2014 First team, Interviews, News No comments
Ahead of Tuesday night’s game against Brighton & Hove Albion at Elland Road, we asked Brighton fan Sam Peters a few questions about his team and their start to the season..
So, the new season hasn’t begun like you would have hoped but can you put your finger on what’s going wrong currently? Yep it’s not how we would have liked it to have started but it was the same sort of start last year under Oscar Garcia, what has not helped this season was letting some players leave the club on free transfers (Kuszczak, Lopez, Orlandi,) and also Leicester taking Upson from us did not help the situation and then Ward left who was great for us at left back and now has ended up at Burnley, along with so far in this window alone that we have sold Ulloa to Leicester and Buckley to Sunderland, it has left the squad very thin in areas but I hope in the next 2 weeks that we will bring a quality striker just like with you lot signing Sharp.
Sami Hyypia is your new manager, are the fans happy with that appointment?I for one was happy about the appointment of Hyppia as he knew the English game well and got some valuable experience with Leverkusen but after the first couple of games it seems like the formation he plays is not working but its only 2 games so should be given time to adjust the squad to his way of football.
What are your hopes and expectation for the season? Well considering how much we have progressed since we have come back to the Championship finishing: 9th, 4th and 6th over the 3 seasons and as any club in this league like yourselves the top 6 is the target as then you have a chance to go up but with some of the squads I have looked at, I think a top half finish is still going to be a great season for us.
With the way modern football is, do you feel aggrieved at having to make a midweek treck from Brighton to Leeds? It is difficult for any fan to travel far during mid-week and when you see some fans of the Premiership that slander Championship team fans for the numbers, it’s not something they have to worry about! I always feel mid-week games should be made to be more local for example travel wise it would make more sense for a Charlton mid-week game then it would for Leeds, numbers are generally not good because of work and having kids to deal with school.
Will you be making the journey yourself? Sadly I will not be making the journey but I shall be tuning into BBC Sussex to listen and hoping for the 3 points!
Do you know how your ticket sales are going for the game? I would like to give you a number but I honestly do not know but anything over 1000 I think would still be great for mid-week.
Any of our Leeds players that you would like to see in your team? Sam Byram, watching him in the games on TV and against ourselves I feel he will have a good future, had trouble with injuries last season I believe? But, he would be one I would like to see with us and that would be the only one to be fair before you signed Billy Sharp but now I have to include him, what a great signing for you lot and I think Brighton should have personally made that signing.
What’s the general opinion of Leeds United from a Brighton point of view? From my personal point of view and you or your fans may slander me for it but because of your past..your fans expect too much, obviously growing up as a kid I knew Leeds to be in the Premiership but I think you are a top half/mid-table Championship side, I may be proved wrong but there has not been a big wow factor at Leeds for a while but with your new owner things may change but as long as you lot finish above Sheffield Wednesday then I think you lot will consider it a good season
What is your likely line up and formation going to be? Seems to be that Hyppia is playing a 4-3-2-1 system with no wingers and with Calderon and Bruno being into their 30′s it’s not good to expect players like that to run up and down for 90 minutes, he plays two AM’s just behind a lone striker, I am expecting the line up to look like this
Stockdale
Bruno – Greer – Hughes – Chicksen
Ince, Holla (New signing) – Forster-Caskey
Teixeira/March (Depending on if Solly March will be fit) – LuaLua
O’Grady
Its going to be a struggle on Tuesday but hoping we can pick up at least a point!
Who is the key man that we should look out for? If he is fit for the game on Tuesday then Solly March, came onto the scene last season under Oscar Garcia and never looked back and now with Buckley leaving, the place in the team is up to him to make his own but if he is not then I can see Rohan Ince, a strong player but can also run as well which makes him dangerous at times and also one would be Craig Mackail-Smith, been unlucky with injuries himself but I hope a lot for him this season, we just signed Joao Teixeira on loan from Liverpool and has been held in high regards by Rodgers and Gerrard so expect something from him.
Are you linked with any players to strengthen your team during the transfer window? Well according to Twitter we are always linked with players! there has been reports that we are looking at Bamford from Chelsea who was on loan at Derby last season which could be a good striker, Jack Robinson from Liverpool on loan is another one we been linked with and we need a new left back so that could work. In my mind we need a left back, another attacking midfielder and then a striker and I think we will be sorted
Finally, what’s your prediction for the game? Well, your team will be confident coming off a big win against Middlesbrough on Saturday and hopefully our players have more about them on Tuesday against your lot, I would love a win and we may sneak one but games against us two have been close the last 3 years if I remember rightly, in my heart I am going for Leeds 1-2 Brighton, in my head I can see it being Leeds 1-1 Brighton.
All of us at Leeds All Over would like to thank Sam for answering our questions, you can take him up on some of his answers by leaving comments or following him on twitter @SamPeters_BHAFC.
