Ikke helt uventet, nei....
Leeds United’s Pontus Jansson is once again being tracked by Premier League outfit Southampton, according to ClubCall.
The Saints were keen on signing the Swedish central defender several years ago before his move to Elland Road.
Aston Villa and Parma were also watching Jansson, who at the time was with Malmö in his native Sweden.
He eventually joined Italian outfit Torino, before his move to Garry Monk’s Leeds at the start of the season.
Reports are suggesting that Southampton scouts were at Elland Road on Saturday to watch Jansson in Leeds’ crucial 1-0 win over promotion rivals Sheffield Wednesday.
The 26-year-old has been among the best players in the Championship this season, and has become a fan favourite among the Leeds faithful due to consistently excellent performances at the heart of their defence.
He has been a key part of Leeds’ success this season, and signed a permanent deal at the club at the beginning of February.
The Whites sit comfortably in the playoff places in fourth position, and look set to achieve their first top six finish since they were promoted from League One in 2010.
Although Southampton are said to be interested in bringing Jansson to the Premier League, he is expected to remain with Leeds if they are promoted this season.
The Saints have adapted well to the top flight since being promoted a number of seasons ago, having achieved consistent top-half finishes and enjoyed European campaigns.
They have a reputation for turning Championship prospects into Premier League success stories, with Adam Lallana and Nathan Redmond being among the names to have excelled at St Mary’s after successful spells in the Championship.
Leeds take on Birmingham City away from home this weekend as they look to continue their winning ways.
