En svært pasningssikker spiller som var på høyde med Cooke for ett års tid siden. Fint sammendrag om han her:
Leeds United have made a bid for Chelsea’s young midfielder Lewis Baker.
Luton-born Baker made his first forays into professional football through hometown side Luton, where he was for just the 2004/05 season before being snapped up by Premier League giants Chelsea.
The 17-cap England Under-21 international (eight goals) spent last season out on loan in the Sky Bet Championship with promotion challengers Middlesbrough. He featured 12 times across the 2017/18 campaign for the Teessiders, scoring once in a 3-2 victory over QPR.
Now the Mirror are saying that a pared back Leeds United side under Marcelo Bielsa’s guidance are looking to bring the rated Stamford Bridge youngster to Elland Road.
Baker’s contract at Chelsea stretches until 2022, but that is thought not to be putting off Leeds United. The short entry of the transfer blog has The Mirror saying that the Whites “want to buy Baker outrightâ€, bringing the Chelsea starlet to West Yorkshire.
However, the article does say that the Whites “could accept a loan†if Chelsea decide that they wish to keep hold of Baker. Baker has yet to make a Chelsea first team league appearance, his experience being largely out on loan from Stamford Bridge.
As well as last season’s jaunt with Boro, Baker has seen further action both at home and abroad. Domestically he has been out on loan to Sheffield Wednesday (four appearances) and MK Dons (12 appearances/three goals/two assists), and he has also featured more extensively on the continent with Dutch side Vitesse Arnhem (73 appearances/20 goals/11 assists).
Should this all firm up, Baker will join a tightly-knit bunch of players that new boss Marcelo Bielsa is said to be keeping as his central core unit for next season’s Championship campaign, a campaign that Leeds fans are hoping will turn in to a tilt at promotion.
